A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are traveling any distance.

Not listed?
A guide for Artists and Promoters
The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to rideout at stayfree.co.uk once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

plus The Cult Of Dom Keller, Pusher and DJ Al Lover

www.facebook.com/thenightbeats.u.s

www.facebook.com/cultofdomkeller

www.facebook.com/pusherpage
www.facebook.com/coolallover

Any number of bands cite 60’s Texas psych as an influence, but rarely does a group actually capture what made those bands special. Following their debut EP also on Trouble In Mind, The Night Beats have expanded on the bedroom immediacy of their first recordings to create an LP that perfectly captures and modernizes the hallucinogenic and exhilaratingly demonic aura of bands like The 13th Floor Elevators and Golden Dawn.

With blazing guitar work and a razor sharp rhythm section Danny Lee Blackwell and company mutate conventional chords and progressions into a mind-blowing sonic sprawl. The record reels you in with 2-3 minute pop songs like ‘Ain’t Dumbo’ and ‘Dial 666', forging a landscape that then throws you into a chaotic journey of jams a’la ‘Dewayne’s Drone’ and ‘Little War in the Midwest’ that bend and meander but never overstay their welcome. Tune in, turn on, & drop that needle on this record!

Belfast's alternative rock four-piece are hotly tipped for success in the UK in 2013 after the release of debut album 'Camera.Shutter.Life' to critical acclaim (KKKK review in Kerrang, dubbing it a "stunning debut", "APR deserve whole-heartedly to be your new favourite band") and rave reviews of their live shows.

Their diverse sound, which is compared to the likes of Brand New, Manchester Orchestra, Sunny Day Real Estate and Twin Atlantic but very much in their own key, has seen them appear at major festivals such as Reading and Leeds and T Vital. After being spotted by notorious music lover and fellow Belfast man Gary Lightbody, he expressed his love for the band in Q Magazine before inviting them to tour the UK and Ireland with Snow Patrol and Everything Everything including a night in London's O2 Arena.

Pete Morton

£8

plus Sheila Mosley

www.petemorton.com

Pete Morton is a songwriter, singer and ‘folk rapper’ with a wealth of great songs and stage presence. His live shows are dynamic and thought provoking, while remaining approachable and fun loving.

With his well known songs such as ‘Another Train’, ‘The Shepherds Song’, and ‘When We Sing Together’, he constantly tours. His ‘Frapping’ (folk rap) technique of marrying traditional folk choruses with rap have been well received and feature highly on the new CD ‘The Frappin’ and Ramblin’ Pete Morton’.

His own tunes do not move far from the folk tradition and he often borrows from folk song to sit with remarkable ease amid his very present day unruly mix of social comment, humour, politics, love and personal insight. “Is there no end to Pete’s energy? Top-drawer songwriting shot through with integrity” is how his work was described for his powerful 2011 album ‘Economy’.

With his latest release he refuses to mellow, driven with a wild vocation to make the world a better place ‘he is one of the best’.

The current vehicle for Maureen Anderson's poetry and general creativity, Multimorph rose from the ashes of Shapeshifter when the latter's long-standing guitarist Dave Johnson passed away from cancer in March 2009. The band's line-up stabilised in mid-2010 with Maureen complimented by guitarist Rizz James, dual bassists Dave Dhonau and Darren Baxter and cajon drummer Jim Tetlow. Darren's partner Helena McLeod has now joined as an additional vocalist after guesting on the Meditation Chamber album. Live performances are further augmented by the live painting and costumes of local artist Nick Nixon and the liquid light show of Lumiere Ogbanje to create a bizarre but infectiously memorable live experience.

Trembling Bells

plus You Are Wolf and Collossloth

www.tremblingbells.com

www.youarewolf.com

Trembling Bells are 21st century troubadours who know their history, joyously attempting to synthesise traditional folk forms with the bathetic romanticism of country music, the deceptive complexity of medieval music and the swagger of classic Rock. Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen are the guiding lights in a music that embraces British folk-rock, American roots and electric psychedelia. They are on a quest to connect with the core tradition of song and live deep within its mysteries… a rhapsodic celebration of the power of song.

In Spring 2012 the Trembling Bells played, sang and duelled with Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, performing a new collection of songs written by the Trembling Bells some of which appear on the collaborative album ‘The Marble Downs’, out on Honest Jon’s..

"There’s folk, there’s rock, there’s psychedelia, there’s beauty, there’s noise, there’s sex, there’s gloom, there’s humour, there’s fun. It’s often over-the-top but sometimes perfectly restrained. It’s totally, gloriously, f***ing nuts" - Sounds XP
