A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Hillbilly Vegas
CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS - REFUNDS FROM POINT OF SALE
£12.00adv £14.00door
Hillbilly Vegas is a Southern Rock Country band from Oklahoma.

In 2011 the band recorded their first full length album, ‘Ringo Manor’. The debut album sold more than 10,000 hard copies—massive for an emerging indie band. They scored major chart action with their first single ‘Little Miss Rough and Tumble’ later that year. It stayed on the national country music charts for more than 26 weeks.

Their next album release was ‘76 in 2016. They charted a single, ‘High Time for a Good Time’, from that release and it stayed on the country music charts for 18 weeks.

Led by Steve Harris (vocals) Stacy Thornburg (lead guitar, vocals), Austin Ward (guitar, mandolin, banjo, vocals) Donnie Griggs (bass) and Troy Hollinger (drums)– the band has toured coast to coast 6 times over the past 3 years.

They have headlined their own tours and acted as a support act for Blake Shelton, Travis Tritt, Alabama, Lee Brice, Blackstone Cherry, Wynonna, Kentucky Headhunters, Hellyeah, David Allen Coe, Molly Hatchett and many more over the last few years.

The band continues to tour and build a large fan base all over the world. A new album is on the way and bigger and better tours are being planned.

£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Hot on the heels from playing the Cambridge Folk Festival and UK Americana Music Week in 2023, Australian singer-songwriter Nigel Wearne returns to the UK this winter.

Hailing from Gunditjmara country in the deep south of Australia, Wearne is a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist with diverse influences such as Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Rickie Lee Jones. A deep thinker and truth seeker with a penchant for all things peculiar, he sings of human frailty, grace and the cosmos; songwriting that cuts to the bone.
Nigel has toured Australia, New Zealand, the US, UK and Canada and performed at a long list of music festivals, including AmericanaFest (USA), Port Fairy Folk Festival (AUS), MerleFest (USA) and the Adelaide Guitar Festival (AUS). His sophomore album, Black Crow garnered wide critical acclaim including a 4-STAR review in Rolling Stone and debuted at #1 on Australia’s AMRAP Charts.

His new album The Reckoning has received early praise with the first three singles earning him a nomination for Best Blues Work at the Music Victoria Awards. Inhabiting the after-dark realms of blues, jazz, soul and Americana-noir, The Reckoning is a full band explosion of songs, stories and musical mayhem. All the while, Wearne's crooning, cutting, monolithic vocal keeps lyricism and poetry at the forefront.

Join Nigel on his third tour of the UK for what promises to be an enlivening and captivating solo performance.

THe QOW TRIO is a unique multi-generational jazz band featuring award-winning young firebrand saxophonist Riley Stone Lonergan, British Jazz legend Spike Wells (Tubby Hayes, Bobby Wellins) on drums, and multi-genre bassist and bandleader Eddie Myer.
The trio initially got together through their mutual love of Sonny Rollins' classic piano-less trios of the 1950s but soon found themselves expanding their repertoire to explore the rich and varied territory laid out by the great tradition of big-toned tenor players over the generations.

Their debut album was released on Ubuntu Music to excellent reviews in national press and has been played on JazzFm and BBC Radio 3, and extensively playlisted on Spotify. They've played sell-out shows at PIzza Express Soho, The Vortex, The 606 Club, Love Supreme Festival, Swanage Jazz Festival, Rye Jazz Festival, The Brighton Jazz Festival, and taken a tour of Ireland, alongside numerous club dates, and they have begun 2023 with headline billing at the famous Jazz In The Round in the Marylebone Cockpit Theatre. Now they’re back with a whole new set of material for their upcoming second release! Expect exciting, dynamic modern jazz played with a ton of swing and plenty of soul.

“It sounds like the band were having a ball playing, and this translates into a hugely en- joyable set.” Londpon Jazznews

“Their playing just reminds you of the joy of being alive, and in these troubled times there can be no better medicine than great music played well.” JazzViews

“Their debut record sounds like a series of spontaneous, direct and honest conversations, taking place across time and space, with melody, swing, warmth and passion for the music as the constant factors throughout.” Jazzwise

Doors 8:00pm
The Strange Doors are a Doors tribute band that takes you back in time by recreating the sights and sounds of the legends you know and love. This band doesn’t just replicate the studio versions of Doors classics; we actually recreate the live Doors experience. Here you will find ad-libbed poetry, a singer that jumps into the air and writhes on the floor (whilst conjuring the Lizard King with his rich baritone voice), jazzy organ solos, bluesy slide guitar and powerful, yet subtle drumming that punctuates the music and vocals. Like a gig by the real Doors, a Strange Doors gig has an air of unpredictability... audiences are kept guessing what to expect next. The atmosphere is charged with the darkness and feeling of menace that only Doors music can provide.

The Strange Doors will take you on a journey into the severed garden... fires will be lit and lizards will be celebrated!

This top tribute show is more than just a tribute - they are the complete package! Their great combination of brilliant musicianship and tongue in cheek humour has had rave reviews throughout the UK. Playing the country-rock songs of the Traveling Wilburys, the band also steal some choice numbers from its five iconic members; Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne.

The fabulous Unravelling Wilburys are made up of Sticky Willy, Walter, Thumper, Blind Melon and Honky Tonk Wilbury, the “real” Wilbury brothers, who grew up in an Appalachian shack and first presented their songs in Nashville back in 1987. The show tells the story of how their songs were (allegedly) stolen by Messrs Orbison & Co. at Nashville’s Tootsies Bar and the hard road they had to tread to get ‘em back. With a set list comprising of songs including ‘Handle With Care’ Tweeter And The Monkey Man’, ‘The Devil’s Been Busy’, ‘Pretty Woman’, ‘Here Comes The Sun’, ‘Mr Blue Sky’, ‘Mr Tambourine Man’ and ‘American Girl’, this is a show not to be missed!

Doors 8:00pm
The Magpie Arc is a cross-Border band out of Sheffield and Scotland featuring the multi-award-winning talents and wide musical influences of Nancy Kerr, Findlay Napier, Tom Wright, Alex Hunter and Martin Simpson (on electric guitar!).

Formed from the idea of bringing together a group of established folk musicians who would mix their song-writing styles and musicianship in a full-on electric band to create exciting new music and update the classic 60’s and 70’s British folk/rock sound, the possibilities of The Magpie Arc being something special and
unique on today’s folk scene became obvious very quickly.

Having three strong writers the focus has naturally been on new material, however they’ve also tackled some great covers plus their own re-workings of traditional songs. There’s folk and rock, a bit of country and rock and even blues with rock, but whatever the genre the band are already proving to be a musical mix of everything you could expect from such a line-up, with excellent songs, lush harmonies, scything electric guitars, gorgeous fiddle lines and rock solid bass and drums.

With twelve songs recorded just before “you know what” hit, the band released a trio of four track EP's on their own label in late 2020/early 2021 and in November 2022 they released their first full length album, Glamour In the Grey, which immediately entered the UK Official Folk Chart at number 9.

The buzz about seeing the band live and the anticipation among those in the know all became clear as they hit festival stages during the summer of 2022 and at various venues around the UK in autumn to superb reviews, and tonight will be their full “Evening with....” show which includes first half solo sections from
Martin Simpson, Nancy Kerr and Findlay Napier followed by a full band second set.

No one gets more deeply to the heart of important issues, with catchy and concise poetry, than David does. He has a talent for expressing things that are hard to say. All of his songs grab me emotionally and let me know how I really feel. His songs come alive like stories and movies, not just words.

Blues/Americana/Alt Country

JR Harbidge plays his version of Americana, Black Country Americana to be precise. Born in Wolverhampton but now living the dream in the East Midlands, J R Harbidge borrows from the greatest period of music in history, the late 60’s and early 70’s.

Influenced by Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, CSNY and many more from that golden era, Harbidge’s songs are a nod to that period of music but with a contemporary edge.

Harbidge has appeared on the same bills as Billy Bragg, Keane, Zutons, Shires and KT Tunstall and has had a number of songs licensed to various projects including a Harley Davidson advertising campaign and a BBC documentary.

His 3 albums have garnered 4 and 5 star reviews on print and online and has received radio airplay from many many FM and Digital radio stations up and down the country including the BBC, Radio Caroline, Elton Johns Country Line Radio to name a few.

New Album “Reincarnation Blues” has been received very well and has earned J R and the band a slot at the Americana Music Association Awards Showcase in Hackney this year.

This show is now cancelled. Refunds from points of purchase.
Whether on stage, or in the studio, Lesoir have such a strong connection as a band and this shines through in their music. That's why ‘Mosaic’ had to become the most dynamic album to date, capturing and recreating the energy of their live performance on record, which the listener is sure to recognise as the sound of passionate musicians who, together in one space, create something from those good feelings and for the sake of that creation in the moment, without thinking about the blueprints of the ever defining genres.

Strengthened by producer duo John Cornfield (Muse, Supergrass, Ben Howard and Robert Plant) and Paul Reeve (vocal producer of Matt Bellamy), Mosaic is shaped in a 10-day session at Airfield studio (St. Merryn, UK) by War Of the World guitarist Jo Partridge. With 10 years between the release of their debut album and this fifth full-length album, Lesoir is proud to say that ‘Mosaic’ has become the album that finally defines them.
