A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Michele Stodart (The Magic Numbers) + Hannah White
£15.00adv
Doors 7:30pm
Caribbean-born Michele Stodart is an award-winning singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist based in London. Best renowned as bassist, vocalist and co-songwriter of Mercury-nominated, double-platinum selling band, The Magic Numbers, with whom she continues to play and tour world-wide.

Michele has also always pursued her own writing and nurtured a love for artists such as Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch. She has released two critically acclaimed solo albums of cinematic folk/Americana, and melodic country-blues influenced songs and has become known for her intimate, heart-wrenching live performances.

Her third solo album is due for release in September 2023.

Hannah White's extensive and evocative songbook is making her one of the most talked- about artists on the roots music scene. The singer-songwriter from south London began 2023 by winning UK Song of the Year at the UK Americana Awards with the deeply moving 'Car Crash' which typifies the searingly honest and autobiographical narrative style that White has made her own on a series of releases over recent years.

That came on the back of rave reviews for her opening slot on the solo UK and Irish tour by Deacon Blue's Ricky Ross, who invited Hannah onto the dates immediately after hearing her song 'Broken Bird' and playing it on his BBC Radio Scotland show. Both tracks were on her much-admired 2022 album About Time, a collection of striking “Americana noir” delivered with her trademark passion. Holler called the record “the sound of an artist who has fully come into her own,” while Maverick observed: “The emotion she conveys in her vocal delivery gives you chills.”

Doors 7:30pm
Michael and David met at secondary school and have been making music together in various guises for over 20 years. They met Ben a few years later and John relatively recently. Some of the music that ended up on Everything Beautiful In Time was written over ten years ago, whilst Michael was at university, and has been looking for an outlet ever since. In 2015 Michael decided to record a progressive rock album all by himself under the name “I Am The Manic Whale.” After completing the first song it became apparent that he would need some help and so called on the other guys to make guest appearances, which gradually evolved into playing the whole album. Rob Aubrey was persuaded to take on the mixing of the album. Everything Beautiful In Time was released in December 2015.

After a successful pledge campaign, they were able to release a second album, Gathering the Waters, in October 2017. Work on their third album is well underway.

The band have undertaken a number of live performances and enjoy immensely interacting with a live audience.
New Forms of Life, I am the Manic Whale's first live album, was released in February 2019. A live DVD release followed late in 2019. New album released in July 2023 and will be the main focus of tonights performance.

Doors 8:00pm
Having earned a reputation as one of Ireland’s finest singers and songwriters McCabe has performed extensively with his Folk-Soul group The Niall McCabe Band over the past decade. Born on Clare Island, Co.Mayo, McCabe grew up in the family run pub awash with strong musical influences from traditional Irish and folk to rock and soul. It is here that Niall discovered his musical appetite and developed a style and voice that are unquestionably his own.

As well as becoming an accomplished finger-stlye guitar player, more recently Niall has been lending his unique voice to Irish trad-fusion band Beoga touring Ireland, Europe and the USA while also playing support for Ed Sheeran, Foy Vance, Ariel Posen, Drake White and Johnny Swim.

McCabe’s eagerly anticipated ‘Rituals’ album was released in February 2023 to critical acclaim and featured as RTE Album of the Week, while the song Rituals topped the RTE Radio airplay charts for five consecutive weeks.

‘…the weight of personal experience and reflection makes it a masterpiece, in the true sense of the word’ - Irish Music Magazine

“She´s the future”, told Carlos Santana to audience when he asked Erja to join him on stage in front of 20 000 people at Kaisaniemi Park Finland 2018. Erja Lyytinen, “The Queen of Slide Guitar” has become internationally celebrated guitarist with multiple awards and recognitions such as Number 2 on Total Guitar´s “World´s Best Guitarists Now” poll and European Blues Awards “Guitarist of the Year” award. She has released her biographical book called “The Blues Queen” including stories how she shares stages with the legends such as Carlos Santana, Dan Aykroyd, Sonny Landreth and Jennifer Batten. Lyytinen’s musical pallet is vast, encompassing the very best of contemporary blues-rock whilst inspired and influenced by the blues greats of yore. During 2020, with activities limited due to the lockdown, Lyytinen began to work on new ventures such as the development of her own brand of tea. She also worked on two songbooks including her most favorite songs. 2022 Erja Lyytinen returns with "Bad Seed", the first single to be released from the artist's self-produced new studio album 'Waiting For The Daylight'. By her admission, this track in particular "has a fat groove and makes you want to move", said Erja. For fans of the award-winning guitarist's playing, the composition features a wonderful guitar conversation between a slide guitar and a regular guitar. It may have been three years since the release of the Erja Lyytinen's last studio album 'Another World', but based upon the lead single alone, it's been certainly worth the wait.

Glitch Magnet + Stuart Pearce + GLIMMERPIT

Doors 7:30pm
A spectacular line up of wayward post-punk noise for fans of The Fall, Dry Cleaning, PiL, White Light/White Heat era Velvet Underground meets the Scooby Doo gang.

Glitch Magnet are a post-punk esoteric noisecore band formed in Leicester in 2022, who are both ethereal and menacing. Their wiry art-damaged post-punk and half spoken vocals drip with imagery and cut through a band sounding in sync while always threatening to descend into glorious dissonance.

Stuart Pearce are a sharp and spiky agit-prop outfit full of bile and energy, who will be bringing their Fallesque intellectual sneering wit and clattering backdrops over from Nottingham.

GLIMMERPIT will be coming down from Manchester to provide noise, krautrock, psych pop and silliness.

Back at The Musician after an extensive European tour for their 3rd visit.
Five Points Gang are one of the most powerful and original upcoming bands in the UK music scene. They are, according to their fans, set to become the biggest rock & roll band in the world.

Joe, Dinho & Thanos relocated to London with the same dream, and this meeting of chance between three already successful musicians instigated an incredible musical connection that has become the bedrock of an explosive sound already dubbed as "redefining the blues".

With over 200K listeners having tuned in on radio and streaming platforms and thousands more having been blown away by their incredibly powerful live performances, Five Points Gang is rapidly becoming the most exciting upcoming band in the UK.

Since the restrictions of lockdown were released in August 2021, Five Points Gang played over 100 gigs all over the UK, appeared at 15 festivals and has been booked for two European tours.

The guys are widely recognised for always pushing their performances to the limit, and despite being bathed in sweat and battered from being on the road, these boys are always thirsty for more.

The Gang are best known for their exceptional live performances, leaving audiences exhausted and yet somehow screaming for more. Five Points Gang is a truly international band - in the words of one reviewer, "A Welshman, Frenchman and a Brazilian walk into a bar... and blow the place apart!"

Doors 7:30pm
The Austrian band Blank Manuskript seems to be a musical chamber of wonder – internationally successful with uncompromisingly bizarre rock music, the ensemble gained a unique reputation.

Their music is characterized by its sophisticated symphonic arrangements as well as extensive psychedelic improvisations, thus rocking our everyday listening habits. Blank Manuskript creates music paired with mystical-vivid lyrics to transfer its audience into flamboyant musical spheres that have a unique effect on the listeners.

Socio-critical escapism unites with creative excellence, creating contemporary programmatic rock music for insiders and seekers, far beyond the inhuman banality of the media-machine.

Dandelion Charm from Newhaven, England, blend folk, prog and rock, with a sound reminiscent of the late '60s and early '70's. Think Fleetwood Mac meets Opeth, CSN meets Yes.

Intricate harmonies and epic outros tell emotional stories of disfunction, joy and despair.

Dirt Road Band

Doors 8:00pm
The Dirt Road Band is the brainchild of guitar legend Steve Walwyn, mainly known as the longest serving guitar player in Dr Feelgood (32yrs). During this time he amassed a massive reputation as a bona fide blues hero in the UK, Europe and beyond. He says "I'd always liked the idea of the power trio - stripping everything back to the basics: guitar, bass & drums. To help him in this he has recruited the services of drummer Ted Duggan, professional since the 60's including stints with Badfinger and techno giants Banco de Gaia. "I'd worked with Ted before" Steve says, "I knew he would fit this gig perfectly" ...he certainly does.

Bass player Horace Panter is better known as a founding member of The Specials. Horace has "groove" printed on his DNA, holding it down comes as second nature. This then is Steve's dream team rhythm section that swings as hard as it rocks. "We're starting to develop that musical telepathy that makes a band more than the sum of its' parts. It's a thrilling thing and keeps the blues alive".

See you down the dirt road ....

For Lazuli's musicians, songs are canvases on which they mix colours to paint their own world. The floating voice, playing with words, sings out 'man' in all of his facets.
