A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Benji Kirkpatrick & The Excess
Due to virus this gig is cancelled
£12.00adv £14.00door
Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Benji Kirkpatrick, founder member of big-band folk trailblazers, Bellowhead, current member of Faustus and Steeleye Span and sometime Seth Lakeman collaborator, has been writing and cooking up plans for his own project over the last couple of years, which is now unveiled as Benji Kirkpatrick & The Excess. As a huge fan of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream, ZZ Top and The Police, he chose the classic power trio format to provide “the perfect instrumentation” to realise his songs with the biggest imaginable impact, whilst being a containable line up.

Benji and unique percussionist, Pete Flood, formed the rhythmic heart of Bellowhead so Pete was drafted in on drums, with the dextrous Pete Thomas recruited on electric and double bass: “Having played mainly acoustic music for a long time, I wanted to kick things up a bit with a rocky sound.”

The album title ‘Gold Has Worn Away’ refers to the fading promises of Western capitalist society, with the machinations behind the façade becoming more and more obvious. Benji continues: “I feel that people are largely ready for songs about social and political matters, the times sort of demand it. The divisions that are driven politically and socially see to it that there will always be two sides to argue over something.”

The trio’s debut album ‘Gold Has Worn Away’ is a dynamic, rhythmic alt roots album, ranging from raw and abrasive sounds to beautiful emotional moments with a strong underlying power.

Glutton and Guranfoe
This is now cancelled. Refunds from point of purchase.
Guranfoe is an English rock group that formed in 2012 in Norwich. Their music forges elements of progressive rock, improvisational jazz, psychedelic rock, electric fusion and ancient ragas.
Their music sits in a space between rock form and jazz freedom, evoking the pastoral psychedelia of Anthem of the Sun-era Grateful Dead, while simultaneously conjuring the tricky time signatures of Gentle Giant. Their eclectic music is fleshed out with a liberal dose of wah, left turns of delicate psych and a dash of free jazz, while propulsive krautrock floats between the cracks and lingers just below the surface. The group is a tight ensemble, the kind of players that can improvise for an uninterrupted hour with freewheeling focus.Amongst others, they have supported Soft Machine, Caravan, Acid Mothers Temple, Focus and Frank Zappa-alumni Ike Willis.
Guranfoe independently release their own live concert recordings, annual improvised albums and rehearsal tapes from their practice cabin in rural Norfolk.
http://guranfoe.bandcamp.com
Glutton is an alternative rock trio from Oslo, Norway. Their artistic ambition is to combine the sonic and compositional exploratoriness that characterize both 70s prog heroes à la King Crimson and Yes as well as modern alt-rockers such as Ulver, Radiohead, Motorpsycho, Jaga Jazzist and The Mars Volta. Seasoning well-wrought lyrics with accomplished musicianship, and incorporating inspiration from a wide range of styles and expressions that also include jazz and classical minimalism, they have developed their own musical idiom to create atmospheric, exploratory and full-bodied pieces of music.
In 2017, Glutton signed with Apollon Records and released their second album Outliers. One piece takes up the whole of side A: the delicate, yet hard-punching “Pebbles and Holes”. Side B features two pieces in Norwegian, the darker, ominous “Steg” and the vibrant, bittersweet “ELD”. These are songs to be immersed in, songs which ask you to go along on a journey where hopefully you will notice something new along the way.

ZIO
This is now cancelled. Refunds from point of purchase.
feat: Dusk
ZIO is the brainchild of Jimmy Pallagrosi. Jimmy was born into a musical family and alongside his Sisters and Cousins was learning the rudiments of music from the age of 5. At 9 he started learning the drums under his Uncle's supervision and the family formed their own band playing one song "Still got the blues” by Gary Moore over and over!

Jimmy was a member of UK based Progressive Rock Band Karnataka. In 2016 Karnataka won Best Album and Best Track of The Year for 'Secrets of Angels' at The Classic Rock Society Awards.

He has also toured and recorded with bands including; Franck Carducci, The Ravens, Yamin Alma and The Love MachinZ, Ebony Bones!, Twosixones, Smile Away, Teddycash, Ksiz, Dialect Music, Chahla, Glorious and many more. In 2015 Jimmy was the featured Drummer in the worldwide release of 'Guitar Hero Live' produced by Activision.

Jimmy has produced 2 Solo DVDs (feat. Andre Ceccarelli and Dominique di Piazza) and also works as a Drum Demonstrator for Yamaha, Paiste and ProOrca for whom he has performed extensively in France, including major French Drum Festivals; Drums Addict, Bag Show and Stage TAMTAM. Jimmy has also toured with All Access – Yamaha’s official band.

In 2017 Jimmy released his debut Solo album, 'ZIO'; all of the tracks will have an accompanying music video showcasing not only Jimmy but the array of talented guest musicians performing on this album. The new concept album will be released in January 2020, and in the live show features Joe Payne, Hayley Griffiths two eye opening vocalists.

Dusk is a new project featuring Dec Burke, Sean Spear and Scott Higham.

Marisa and the Moths

Doors 7:30pm
‘Cute band name’, you say? Trust us: there’s nothing moth-like about these guys. Featuring soaring vocals from Marisa Rodriguez and satisfying (yet sparingly deployed) lead flashiness from virtuosic six-stringer Sophie Lloyd, occasionally grunge, it's also the sort of sharp, chunky modern hard rock that makes you think of Halestorm, Foo Fighters, Audioslave, alongside touches of various rock heavyweights.

Marisa And The Moths are a new band on the scene, and yet they've already rapidly gathered a following which continues to grow at pace. They were recently played as a featured artist on Kerrang! radio and written up as a featured artist in Classic Rock magazine, where their debut single 'Skin' was included on the front cover CD. Their debut self-titled album (released 15th November 2019) has been met with an incredibly positive response from the public. The album charted in the UK album downloads chart to number 66. They were also awarded Album Of The Year 2019 by Female fronted rock and metal revolution.

The Watch
Tour cancelled due to virus travel restrictions. Refunds from points of purchase
Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
The Watch is an Italian progressive rock band from Milan originally formed in 1997. Their music is inspired by classic progressive rock style of the 1970s and in particular by the music of Genesis. Melody and energy are the main aspects of The Watch music and the live dimension is one of the greatest features of the band.
The first album is called “Ghost” released in 2001, than followed “Vacuum” in 2004 and “Primitive” in 2007. In 2009 the band released its first live album “The Watch live”. Melodies and energy are the main features of The Watch music and live performances are one the strongest characteristics of the band, all the band’s energy and inspiration come out expressly when on stage, where it clearly appears how much they believe in what they do. The line up has changed several times through the years, only Simone Rossetti, founder and composer of the band is still there from the very beginning. According to Simone’s words nowadays the band has the best line up ever !
From 2009 The Watch are bringing on stage shows focused on Genesis albums with the attempt of blending great Genesis classic albums from the 70ies with their own music. Counting on Simone’s voice similarity to Peter Gabriel’s one, this formula has worked very well and allowed the band to play in big stages, widening their audience and growing in number of fans. Now The Watch are considered one of the most representative bands on the actual prog scene worldwide and an example of what could have become prog-rock music if big prog rock names of the 70ies hadn’t split or changed style of music, evolving from the 70ies to nowdays.
In 2010 the band released “Planet Earth” and in 2011 “Timeless” a celebration of some very early days Genesis tunes adding of course some original music too.
After that the band released a new album on february 2014, called “Tracks from the Alps” and from march 2014 on they went on tour all over Europe wide adding some gigs in Canada
The Watch announced their seventh studio album “Seven” in May 2017, with a brilliant special guest, Mr Steve Hackett. The Watch is: Simone Rossetti (lead vocals, flute, keyboards, synthesisers), Valerio De Vittorio (keyboards, synthesisers, guitars, vocals), Mattia Rossetti (bass, guitars, vocals), Marco Fabbri (drums, percussion, vocals) and Giorgio Gabriel (lead guitars). Tonights show is a history of Genesis 70-75

“Alex Rex’s Otterburn sees extraordinary folk drummer Alex Neilson push his solo singer-songwriter work even further, with an album stimulated and suffused by the sudden death of his younger brother.” The Guardian

"Weaving among dark thoughts, both comic and earnest, carried by loping and wistful rock" The 405

"Full of intrigue and mystery" Clash Magazine

Songs of love, loss and loathing... Alex Rex is the nom de guerre of Alex Neilson - drummer to some of the most innovative musicians on the international underground, including Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Shirley Collins, Jandek and Current 93. Alex has synthesised the agonised self-invention and charismatic death-drive of these artists into his solo vehicle - abandoning the folk-rock pomp of his previous band Trembling Bells for something darker and wilder.

ANDROMEDA is a game of emotional snakes and ladders. It’s the product of two years spent in therapy, the gym and on Tinder. It opens with the voice of folk legend Shirley Collins in ”Song of Self Doubt” – a sparse assemblage of spoken words layered on bright chimes and birdsong. And from there we wander down corridors of cruelty, recklessness and recrimination.

“I Am Happy” is a gut-punch to the brain. Think classic-era Nick Cave but without the gothic posturing. “Haunted House” is a ghost-rock ballad about an emotional poltergeist looking for love. “Rottweilers” is a song about the hell hounds of the mind - the phantoms of self-deception and self-destruction that impress themselves on the brain like a depressed Mount Rushmore. “Coward’s Song” sets some lines from Richard III to a skeletal country waltz and was recently recorded by Bonnie “Prince” Billy. “I’m Not Hurting No More” sounds like poetry etched out by a pneumatic drill in an electrical storm, while album closer “Pass The Mask” is about the anxiety of childbearing by someone who has never borne a child - passing the relay baton of disappointment from generation to generation. It’s Philip Larkin’s head on Cat Stephen’s body.

Featuring a consolidated line up of long-time collaborator Rory Haye, with Audrey Bizouerne (Rev Magnetic / Bill Wells) and Georgia Seddon (Mike Heron / The Incredible String Band) along with guest appearances from Shirley Collins and Stevie Jackson, ANDROMEDA is the first ghost rock album. Self loathing has never sounded so sexy.

Nine Below Zero
THIS GIG HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO CORONAVIRUS
£17.00adv £19.00door
Since their formation in 1977 NINE BELOW ZERO have developed a reputation as one of the best blues bands in the country. Their high energy live act was already well established by the time they signed to A&M RECORDS in 1980 and was forever captured on their classic live album 1980’s LIVE AT THE MARQUEE. Legendary producer GLYN JOHNS subsequently worked with the band on 1981’s DON’T POINT YOUR FINGER and they became a familiar sight on seminal TV shows like THE OLD GREY WHISTLE TEST, THE SOUTH BANK SHOW and memorably performed ‘’11+11’’ on the very first episode of anarchic comedy hit THE YOUNG ONES. High profile tours with THE WHO and The KINKS followed and although their musicianship was reaching new heights 1982’s THIRD DEGREE was the last album released by the classic line-up.

The band made a triumphant return in 1990 to celebrate their 10th anniversary with an all new rhythm section consisting of BRENDAN O’NEILL (Drums) and GERRY MCAVOY (Bass) from RORY GALLAGHER’s band. A sell-out UK tour with this line-up led to a new record deal with CHINA RECORDS and tours with the likes of STING, RAY DAVIES, BRIAN MAY and an incredible 12 nights at THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL with ERIC CLAPTON.

A new 8-Piece NBZ Big Band took to the stage for the first time at GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL 2016 and were met with open arms by the fans. The new line-up of DENNIS GREAVES (Guitar/Vocals), MARK FELTHAM (Harmonica/Vocals), MICKEY BURKEY (Drums), BEN WILLIS (Bass), CHARLIE AUSTEN (Vocals), ANDREW NOBLE (Keyboards), CHRIS RAND (Saxophone) & PAUL JORDANOUS (Trumpet) then embarked on a 30 date tour of the UK to coincide with the release of 13 SHADES OF BLUE in September 2016.

Rebecca Loebe
Sorry due to USA travel restrictions this gig is now cancelled
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 7:30pm
Rebecca Loebe is not just another talent. She’s a sophisticated, mature writer with a relevant point of view and an assured, nuanced voice that’s both elegant and earthy, powerful and delicate, with a range and depth she hints at more than flashes. When the moment’s right, however, she’ll glide up a scale like Norah Jones, or drop right into a crag in Fiona Apple’s sidewalk.

But timing and delivery alone don’t make an artist. There’s got to be substance as well, and Loebe fearlessly probes the rawest corners of her psyche to find it. “There's a lot of me talking to myself,” she says. “I’m writing a lot of empowerment jams these days, and I think it's because it's what I need. I've written albums full of what I needed to say, but this album is full of songs I need to hear.” (Talking about her new album; Give Up your Ghosts).
And now she’s on a guerrilla mission to share messages others need to hear as well. “I like to write catchy songs about topics that are meaningful to me, but use fun hooks to put words in people's mouths,” Loebe admits. “My favorite thing is to get people singing along before they even realize they're singing about women's equality or their own self-worth.”
Before signing her first record deal last year, Loebe had made her national television debut on the first season of The Voice (her version of Nirvana’s “Come as You Are” charted worldwide and landed on the show’s first compilation album) and been declared a winner at the Kerrville New Folk songwriting competition.

“I love listening to you sing, in a genuine way…” - Adam Levine (of Maroon 5)
“She wraps her rich, honeyed voice around a mix of nuanced Americana and pop numbers.” - The Chicago Tribune
“Loebe's voice is breathtakingly beautiful, delightful and superb.” - Huffington Post

Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Glymjack is one of the most exciting emerging artists in UK folk music.

The folk-roots project of award-winning songwriter Greg McDonald, Glymjack sees McDonald’s hard-hitting vision lit up by Gemma Gayner’s lightning fiddle and Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Saul Bailey’s melodeon on songs BBC DJ Tom Robinson says “remind you why you got into music in the first place.”

Featuring Show of Hands legends Phil Beer and Steve Knightley, debut album Light the Evening Fire has enjoyed airplay across BBC radio, and rave reviews, with Acoustic declaring Glymjack “as good as contemporary folk comes”.

Live, Glymjack’s touring acoustic line-up of Greg, Gemma, Saul and bassist Dickon Collinson plays acclaimed original songs and dynamic English folk music leavened with plenty of laughs and bonhomie, while the Glymjack Festival Band sees pianist Art Toper and drummer Paul Richards join the band to create a sound more reminiscent of the E Street Band, with a take-no-prisoners energy which has brought the house down at festivals from Cambridge Folk Festival to Larmer Tree.

Greg’s award-winning songs have been called “passionate, powerful and poetic” (Rolling Stone), “inspired” (The Times) and “captivating” (Q magazine), and featured in films and TV shows such as Alan Partridge and Match of the Day. Away from Glymjack, Greg also plays in The Phil Beer Band.

The term “Glymjack” is Victorian criminal underworld slang for a street child who led strangers through the streets of London at night with a lantern.

feat: Brian Cummins
Founding Member/Guitarist John Goodsall: “Every tour we add some new songs and change some things around for a fresh new show. Some of these songs we haven’t played in ages – and some never before at all – and now we’re starting to work on writing some new material as well for a forthcoming album.”
“The band are playing exceptionally well live, so we’ve recorded a new live DVD and a new live album to document it.” says Manager Norman Bedford.“They’re breathing new life into some timeless music in a way I’ve rarely seen – every night on stage they do something differently, and it’s all very exciting to watch.”

BRAND X! With founders John Goodsall (Gtr) & Percy Jones (Bass) still at the helm, they’ve reached some new peaks with Keyboardist Chris Clark, Percussionist Scott Weinberger, and Drummer Kenny Grohowski each bringing their own unique artistry to make Brand X such a unique live act.

The original seeds were sown many years ago in London as players in a studio band for many of Brian Eno’sinfamous solo albums. Drummer Phil Collins and Bassist Percy Jones got to know each other through those sessions. Later Jones and JohnGoodsall officially formed Brand X. Bill Bruford even played a few shows in Brand X — but was complicated by commitments with King Crimson and his own band Bruford, so it wasn’t long before Collins was locked in behind the Brand X kit.
Brand X would sign with Genesis’s management company and they were off and running. They played several festival dates along with Genesis, like the infamous Knebworth Fest in England. With their first three albums “Unorthodox Behaviour”, “Moroccan Roll” and “Livestock”, many critics hailed Brand X as a new path for the future. In a 1978 poll in England’s NME, Brand X were ranked first, above The Sex Pistols, as new band of the year. In a sense they truly were at the forefront of the Jam-Band/Fusion sound. Today the band carries with it more Funk and Rock, but the improvised Jazz sections are still pure heaven.
Phil Collins balanced playing simultaneously in Genesis and Brand X for the early years – an act he handled well – and some claim some of Collins best work appears on those Brand X albums. Collins once explained his love for the energy and freedom created by Brand X thusly: “Genesis was like my wife, but Brand X was like this hot mistress — with big bazongas!”
Support comes from Brian Cummins a renowned solo performer plus frontman in the Genesis tribute act The Carpet Crawlers. Brian also performs the music of Peter Gabriel in his adaption entitled Be Gabriel.

?ENN (f.k.a. Cryptic Street//pronounced Jenn) is a musical riot, ready to rock your ears and mess with your brain. They’re serving alternative post-punk madness with a fun twist, fresh out of their DIY framework. Based in Brighton, the band is a result of a trans-national pairing which came about through the internet between three musicians from Malta, and one from the UK.

Leona Farrugia (vocals), Janelle Borg (guitar), Leanne Zammit (bass) and Sofia Rosa Cooper (drums) have been shaking audiences to the core with their infectious tunes and with the honest, relatable themes they attack in their tracks.

After releasing their debut album ‘Titty Monster’ in 2018, the ladies performed across Europe and the UK, and were featured on KEXP, DIVA Magazine, Europavox, Tom Tom Magazine, and Louder Than War, amongst others.

‘These girls most certainly mean business with their attitude ridden, energeticdrive and uncompromising approach. Riot Grrrl’s give us what you got!!’
(Louder than War)

2019 has been a year of incessant touring, creating a buzz around the UK by supporting bands such as Hands Off Gretel, PINS, Maid of Ace, The Soap Girls, and Acid Mothers Temple, to name a few.
This fierce group promises to keep strutting their stuff, and howing us what they’re packing over the coming years. From touring to new releases, you will want to keep your eyes peeled for these girls in 2020. So hold on tight, because the ?ennata (English translation: craziness) has just begun.

Yur Mum is a multicultural rock band based in London. Their music is raw, loud and honest. They call it ‘road rage’ rock. On stage, Yur Mum is energetic, cathartic and unapologetic. The three-piece started their road rage ride in 2016. Since they first
touched a stage, they’ve played shows across the UK, USA, Brazil, Ireland, France, Austria, Hungary and Czechia. After self releasing a single and a live EP, the band was signed by Flicknife Records and released their debut album entitled ROAD RAGE.
