A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Luke Doherty
£8.00adv £10.00door
Award winning Blues / Classic Rock Band From Newport, South Wales. playing original material

Luke Doherty – Was born on 29th March 1994, in Newport, Gwent. He had an interest in music at a very young age. Although no one in his family play an instrument, he was determined to learn to play something, and at the age of 5 he started playing piano, but didn’t like it. He then asked to play the drums but was told by a drum teacher he was way too young and to wait a couple of years. He then settled on a 1/2 size acoustic guitar which he had to give up after 3 months due to medical reasons. At 71/2 he was nagging his parents again to learn guitar, so they bought him a second hand 1/2 size electric guitar and a second hand amp and he has never looked back. He instantly became hooked on blues, intently watching any blues musicians he could find on TV or DVD.
Luke met Eric Clapton when he was 9yrs old at the John Mayell 7Oth Birthday concert in Liverpool. Also aged 9 he asked his parents if he could take Rock School exams which he sailed through to grade 8 by the age of 11, as well as a extra performance grade 8. He was then interviewed on BBC Radio Wales because he was the youngest person to have passed grade 5, 6 and 8. Also when he was 10 years old he recorded Parisian Walkways, of which Gary Moore has a copy.

Dark Side Of The Wall
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
The ever-popular award winning ‘Dark Side Of The Wall’ return once again to present an evening of classic Pink Floyd music in their own inimitable style.

One of those is the band’s long-serving, and Leicester-based, bass player Steve Chilton, says, “I always think that one of our great selling points is the fact that we love what we do. Live gigs should always be about that band and audience interaction. Pink Floyd’s music and persona is often perceived as quite serious but whilst we perform their music with the love and respect it deserves, we always bring our own personalities to the stage. This is definitely no ‘look-a-like’ tribute band and we’re proud of that. Who’d want to look like Pink Floyd anyway?”

In well over 2 hours of reverent tribute to their heroes DSOTW perform music from all Pink Floyd’s classic albums and feature tracks such as Comfortably Numb, Money, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Another Brick In The Wall to name just a few. If you’ve seen Dark Side Of The Wall in concert before then you’ll know it’s a gig not to be missed as they bring their theatre show into the more intimate setting of the Musician.

"Simon Waldram can evoke the most calmest acoustic pastoralism this side of Roger Water's 'Grantchester Meadows' yet he has an experimental edge and radical punk ethos that makes him more than just a man and a guitar even when he is 'just' a man and a guitar. Prolific, and with an impressive amount of music already released in his name, Waldram is a fascinating and unique figure on the alternative music scene." - Kevin Hewick

Hen Ogledd
£12.00adv £15.00door
plus Tiny Ruins and Ka Safar
Doors 7:00pm
A very exciting double header in a Green Man warm up with Tiny Ruins and opening the show the awesome Ka Safar.

A band project comprising Richard Dawson, Rhodri Davies, Dawn Bothwell and Sally Pilkington, Hen Ogledd’s meaning comes from the Welsh name for The Old North.

Mogic - came out in November 2018 - is Hen Ogledd’s third LP (their first for Weird World), and their most surprising and accessible work yet.

Each hailing from historically different tribal regions of the Old North, the musicians on Mogic challenge the idea that the ancient world was rife with magic, while the new is infiltrated by cold logic. The tracks on Mogic create new phantasmal blends of images and ideas that draw upon the mystical and technological. Mogic is a discombobulating pop prayer exploring artificial intelligence, witches, nanotechnology, pre-medieval history, robots, romance, computer games and waterfalls.

This dynamic record of eddies and swirls, ravishing melodies, hallucinatory textures and bonkers rhythms is pinned down by some deft performances: Pilkington’s picture-perfect pop and earthy singing, Davies’ blazing harp splutterations and guitar moans, Bothwell's twisted telephone techno and bamboozling lyric-bombs and Dawson's utter bass.

TINY RUINS

“...an album that both bruises the heart and lifts the soul...songwriting that demonstrates a novelist’s eye for detail.”
— Uncut review of Brightly Painted One

While spanning continents, Tiny Ruins became a sought after collaborator. A New York recording session culminated in the EP Hurtling Through (2015) with indie-rock legend Hamish Kilgour (The Clean), while 2016 single Dream Wave was recorded and produced by award-winning cult filmmaker and musician David Lynch:

“A tranquil, pared-back track [with] a gradually rising sense of the macabre… very special indeed.”
— The Line of Best Fit
