A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

“High energy is an understatement – a debut album that requires dancing or foot-tapping…it is hard to describe, other than to say it’s good music. The group throws together elements of bluegrass, folk, and a progressive mean streak that distinguishes their sound as original…all ten cuts are a pleasure” – Bluegrass Unlimited

Hailing from Philadelphia PA, Man About a Horse perform an entertaining blend of “newgrass” and Americana with a hint of rock and blues.

Performing with classic bluegrass instrumentation (fiddle, mandolin, banjo, guitar and double bass) and top notch harmony vocals, Man About A Horse combine virtuosic musicianship with a fun, engaging stage presence.

Playing live is what Sinnerboy do best. Anyone who has seen them will tell you, it's all about energy and passion, strong songs played with verve. But how else could you approach playing Rory's music?

Their repertoire numbers over forty songs (and rising), with material from every stage of Rory's career including his early days with Taste. Bullfrog Blues, Walk On Hot Coals, Tattooed Lady, Shadow Play, Moonchild and many more are the essential ingredients of every Sinnerboy set.

For Sinnerboy, keeping the music of Rory Gallagher alive for people who love to hear it, is all that matters, but don't look for three guys on stage poncing about in wigs trying to look like three other guys, what you get with this band is all out passionate Rory Gallagher music!

Gwenifer Raymond is a Welsh multi-instrumentalist, originally from Cardiff but now residing in Brighton, England. Gwenifer began playing guitar at the age of eight shortly after having been first exposed to punk and grunge. After years of playing around the Welsh valleys in various punk outfits she began listening more to pre-war blues musicians as well as Appalachian folk players, eventually leading into the guitar players of the American Primitive genre. She has since been playing her own moody and often-times manic original American Primitive styled compositions on guitar and banjo around the UK and the US.

Sparse American primitive instrumentals drawn from the roots music of Mississippi and Appalachia. Influenced by the likes of Skip James, John Fahey, Roscoe Holcomb and John Hurt.

Doors 7:45pm
There are artists who are independent in the music industry sense, and artists who are independent in mind, spirit and the sheer bloody-mindedness with which they’ve made something of themselves. Nell Bryden fits both descriptions, and has the stories to prove it.
The funny ones, about thinking she was the next Maria Callas for a minute, or sleeping on a promoter’s couch that still bore the outline of the previous itinerant musician. The gritty ones, about 14-hour bus journeys to the next gig. The poignant ones, like witnessing 9/11, sacrificing her romantic life for years to pursue her artistic dream, and watching her hair fall out along the way. And, now, the triumphant ones, like establishing herself as a singer-songwriter of real distinction and finding true love in the process.
The journey from Nell Bryden’s birthplace in Brooklyn to a career-redefining fifth album ‘Wayfarer,’ and a virtual residency on the BBC Radio 2 playlist has been long, rarely without incident, and often rather strange. The key thing, though, is that she made it, like a good wayfarer always does, and her songs are all the richer for it.
Born as punk was sinking its teeth into the British zeitgeist, and just before Elvis left the building, Nell’s childhood was never less than challenging. “My mum was a classical soprano,” she says. “At eight and a half months, she was singing in Carnegie Hall with me in utero. Then a month after I was born, she was out touring again, taking me with her.

Molly's Kiss is a folk band, lost in the middle of France, composed of a guitar, an accordion, two voices and the will to give simple and catchy songs. Folk melodies, rock energy and generosity! Molly's Kiss doesn't like to beat around the bush and cuts to the chase honest, genuine, human.

Luke Tuchscherer is an acclaimed singer/songwriter from Bedford, now living in New York City. His introduction to the UK Americana scene came via the highly regarded alt.country band The Whybirds, with whom Luke sang and played drums.

The band released three studio albums (The Whybirds, 2008; Cold Blue Sky, 2010; A Little Blood, 2013), a live album and an EP. Their records attracted strong reviews from the British and international music press, including notices in Uncut (ALB - 7/10), Classic Rock (CBS 7/10), R2: Rock N Reel (ALB 4/5, LRv1 - 4/5, CBS 4/5), Maverick Country (CBS - 4/5), Daily Express (ALB - 4/5), Powerplay (ALB - 7/10) and Songwriting Magazine (ALB - 5/5).

Luke's debut solo album 'You Get So Alone At Times That It Just Makes Sense' garnered universal critical acclaim and was voted second best album of the year in Americana UK's reader's poll (while Luke was named second best male artist) and featured on multiple "Best of 2014" lists.

His second album, Always Be True, was released through Clubhouse Records in 2017. The album again received universal critical acclaim, and reached #15 in the UK's Official Country Chart and #25 in the Americana Chart.

Doors 7:30pm
Formed in the summer of 2015 in Northern Ireland, Blackwater Conspiracy are a hard rocking five piece who take their inspiration from the classics. Think Exile-era Stones, think Faces, think Black Crowes, think Quireboys, think a rock’n’roll band par excellence, equally at home with slide-driven rock as late night dark corner whiskey blues. Their debut at Ramblin’ Man Fair was voted one of the ten best ever live sets at that illustrious festival while their second album, ‘Two Tails & The Dirty Truth Of Love & Revolution’, was released in 2020 to rave reviews (10/10 Powerplay Magazine, 4/5 Get Ready To Rock, 5/5 Two Finger Media).

Blackwater Conspiracy “stand out because they’re supremely good at what they do” (Planet Rock) and are “ready to take their place in the elite” (Maximum Volume Music). This is a band that knows and uses their roots and influences but at the same time brings things right up to date for the twenty-first century. A great evening of rock‘n’roll, not to be missed.

"Folk album of the year so far." *** Martin Townsend - Editor, Sunday Express (25 March 2018)

"A fabulous band" - Genevieve Tudor, BBC Radio Shropshire

"Bird in the Belly come to shake up folk music - and succeed." 8/10 - Jonathan Aird, Americana UK

"Occasionally stark and raw both musicially and lyrically, they boldly go where few artists dare to tread." - Mike Ainscoe, Louder than War

Bird in the Belly is a collective made up of solo artist Jinnwoo, folk duo Hickory Signals and instrumentalist Tom Pryor. Together they have spent the last 12 months recording songs and stories that have either never before been recorded or are rarely recorded - all set to contemporary folk music, in the hopes of reintroducing these songs back into the folk canon.

Bird in the Belly’s 2018 gig highlights include Manchester Folk Festival (English Folk Expo showcase), Leigh Folk Festival, Tooting Folk Club and Ropetackle Arts Centre. They opened for BBC R2 Folk Award winner, Ewan McClennan, at the Toy Museum Folk Club in Brighton.

Alongside this, the group has been working on a feature length documentary to support the album, interviewing the likes of June Tabor, Frankie Armstrong, Stick in the Wheel, Fellside Record, Rootbeat Records, Ian Anderson (fRoots Editor), Lisa Knapp, Gerry Diver, Naomi Bedford and The Rails about the contemporary folk scene.

Ably supported by both Weikie AND then bringing the sublime Courtney Askey on to the bill too.
