A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

“Luft and Edwards sound right at home together, and they may soon join duos like Mandolin Orange and Shovels & Rope among the ranks of Americana prestige. [One of the] 10 Folk Artists You Need to Know in 2019.”
AMERICAN SONGWRITER
“ ... when two voices meant to merge find each other, their power somehow multiplies... The Small Glories generate so much energy together they could almost form a hurricane, though blizzard might be a more apt metaphor for this Canadian duo.”
NO DEPRESSION

"Perhaps The Small Glories need to rename themselves, for the full-hearted lyrics, the swelling harmonies, and the gorgeous fabric of the songs on this album are certainly large and wash over us with a powerful beauty that pulls at our hearts.”
MOJO

“Their vocal harmonies are second to none, buoyant and brimming with personality, and they’re equally impressive instrumentally..”

ROCK’N’REEL (R2) MAGAZINE
“The Small Glories should be welcome listening to any fans of Gillians Welch and David Rawlings, Mandolin Orange and others of that ilk... The whole album is an almost perfect example of modern Americana. ”

Sandy & Joni' with Sally Barker

(Sally will be accompanied by multi-instrumentalist Anna Ryder)

Singer/Songwriter Sally Barker, Tom Jones' Finalist in the Voice, presents an afternoon of songs by Sandy Denny and Joni Mitchell. Local singer Sally has thrilled audiences for aeons, reducing Tom Jones to tears with her version of Nina Simone's 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' in the Blind Auditions of The Voice 2014

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_FqFsu-gsQ). See Sally sing Sandy's 'Rising for the Moon' with Fairport Convention here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKJhSM1g3WU & venture here for Sally's version of Joni's 'Coyote':

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A57A3GTQxU8

Sandy Denny, writer of 'Who Knows Where the Time Goes', is best known as the lead singer of the British folk rock band Fairport Convention and duetted with Robert Plant on 'The Battle of Evermore' for Led Zeppelin's album Led Zeppelin IV in 1971. A four album solo career followed her briefly-lived band Fotheringay (with husband Trevor Lucas). Her distinctive songwriting style and treatment of traditional folk repertoire is evident on four solo albums: 'The North Star Grassman and the Ravens', 'Sandy', 'Like an Old Fashioned Waltz', and 'Rendezvous' before her untimely death in 1978 at the age of 31. Music publications Uncut and Mojo have called Denny Britain's finest female singer-songwriter.

Canadian Joni Mitchell is a living legend. Joni's 4th album 'Blue' is regarded as a masterpiece and the epitome of the confessional singer-songwriter genre. She became a darling of the Greenwich Village coffee house folk scene in the 60s with her enigmatic songs, often written on the guitar using open tunings. Artists such as Judy Collins, Dave Van Ronk, Tom Rush, Buffy St Marie and George Hamilton IV had hits with her songs before Dave Crosby took her to Los Angeles, introduced her to his manager and produced her first album, 'Song to a Seagull'. Joni followed this with the self-produced 'Clouds', 'Ladies of the Canyon' and 'Blue'. Successive albums ('For the Roses', 'Court and Spark', 'The Hissing of Summer Lawns', 'Hejira' and 'Don Juan's Reckless Daughter') encompassed forays into pop, country and jazz. The 1979 album 'Mingus' divided critics and lost Joni her mainstream audience. Although her later work did not match the commercial success of her golden creative period between 1968 and '79, her reputation as the most influential female recording artist of the late 20th century was assured. Joni recorded seven more albums of new music, the last being 'Shine' in 2007. A brain aneurysm in 2015 affected Joni's speech and mobility but due to daily rehabilitation she is recovering, albeit slowly.

. “ The Diesels are currently picking up stunning reviews for their ninth album Let It Melt especially in the USA”

Diesel Park West are for many people the most enigmatic band from the late eighties still performing today. Back in those Thatcherite days the psychedelic guitar ground they occupied was often dismissed as a mere throwback to the mid-sixties with only an enlightened minority realising its real musical significance. The beating heart of rock ‘n’ roll is now far more aware of the Diesels' sound and maybe that’s why any live performance by the band is considered an event worth seeing. Drawing upon eight albums worth of material and the hippest cover versions imaginable, Diesel Park West continue to prove beyond a doubt that they really are the torchbearers for an entire genre.
