A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Dennis Greaves & Mark Feltham from Nine Below Zero
THIS GIG WILL BE GOING AHEAD DESPITE THE WEATHER!
£10.00adv £12.00door
Nine Below Zero’s founding members, Dennis Greaves and Mark Feltham, have gone back to their blues roots and are performing a series of intimate, acoustic concerts as a duo. Covering songs by legends such as Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee, Jimmy Reed and Slim Harpo, they will also play unplugged versions of well-known Nine Below Zero hits.

The blues have been a huge inspiration for both Mark and Dennis, encouraging them both to take up music and form Nine Below Zero. Dennis said “with these shows we are really trying to get back to the stripped-down simplicity of early blues, played in its rawest form on acoustic instruments… it’s a little daunting for me, to be playing acoustic guitar, no hiding behind the Marshall amp!”

The duo released their first album in April 2015 and have been touring in support ever since. The acoustic shows never fail to bring fans closer to the band and the musical influences that formed them. This promises to be a very special evening indeed.

The Rock service Presents:
As Night Falls – Symphonic Metal Hailing From Katowice, Poland

It all began in the summer of 2010 when two musicians who had already known one another from their previous musical projects – vocalist Anna Achtelik and guitarist Pawe? Dylewski, decided to create the project of their dreams – a symphonic metal band that would follow in the footsteps of the greatest bands of the genre, but still remaining original and searching for their own style. The first studio record was released later that year – an EP called My Secret Place, containing four songs, and the first music video for a song called My Memory. In the meantime, new material was being composed and the band performed multiple shows and festivals. In 2014 As Night Falls released their second EP entitled From Grace To Oblivion.

In late 2016 the band released their first full length LP, entitled Embrace the Journey. This LP took the band on the next step of their journey, which saw them tour Europe during late 2016 and into 2017, and now they are bringing their music to UK shores for two very special shows in London and Leicester during March 2018.
The band has previously supported several Globally successful bands: Tarja Turunen (ex Nightwish), Liv Kristine (Leaves Eyes), Proletaryat, Artrosis, Antimatter (Duncan Patterson- ex bass player from Anathema), Eluveitie, Jelonek and many more."

"Serpentyne, Female Fronted Symphonic Folk Metal from Great Britain, founded by Maggiebeth Sand and Mark Powell in 2010.
'Lavishly orchestrated cinematic majesty, embracing galloping rhythms from the power-metal genre." (Progression, USA. 2017)

Black Carrot (Market Harborough) are a vibrant quintet who perform new-wave krautrock jazz madness that
oozes rock with a psychotic edge. Fierce and abstract yet serving the concept of the song, their unique sound nods towards Beefheart and Pere Ubu but is shot through with flavours of New York jazz skronk, and the loosest,
funkiest Krautrock.

"This British midlands based outfit are an adventurous improvising group...Brackley’s apparently extemporised vocals seem to flirt with the cadences of composed songforms in a manner indebted to Can’s Damo Suzuki, but with an almost psychotic edge. The music, meanwhile, builds and recedes according to its own logic, but retains a fetching intimacy and warmth." Keith Moline - The Wire Magazine

Kossoff - The Band Plays On
£16.00adv £18.00door
Terry Slesser, one of the country’s finest rock and blues vocalists, performing in tribute to his bandmate and friend the late, great Paul Kossoff - one of the greatest rock blues guitarists of all time. Celebrating Paul Kossoff’s entire career, the show features songs from his early days in FREE (including rock classics ALL RIGHT NOW, WISHING WELL, FIRE AND WATER etc.) through to songs from BACK STREET CRAWLER, the band Kossoff formed alongside Terry Slesser. Terry Slesser remains both a star and a master craftsman. As Paul Kossoff’s close friend and vocalist of choice, he has every right to sing every song performed by this band. Terry has assembled a great team of musicians to willingly assist him in keeping alive the memory of Paul Kossoff.

The band also features: John ‘Rhino’ Edwards, bassist with the world-famous Status Quo, Judie Tzuke, Dexy’s and Peter Green. Drummer Clive Edwards, whose resumé includes UFO, Wild Horses, Uli Jon Roth, Pat Travers. Guitarist John Buckton is relatively unknown in comparison to his band mates, but was recently reviewed as "one of the very best guitarists in British rock blues today, with a style that’s tasteful and subtle, yet which wails with true blues aggression". SIMON KIRKE himself has already said that were FREE ever to reform, John would be his choice. This is no two-bit collection of raggle-taggle pub-rock wannabes playing cover versions. This an authentic supergroup, and to all intents and purposes a direct continuation of BACK STREET CRAWLER.

Cardboard Fox

plus Phil Langran Band
Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Winners of the 2015 Spiral Earth Award for Best Debut, Cardboard Fox are an exciting four piece with a fast growing fan base. In May 2016 the band followed up on the success of their EP with the release of their first full album, ‘Out of Mind’.

All four musicians have their roots in bluegrass music but their collective influences reach much further and this shows in their music. Formed in late 2013 in Bath, England, the band features the sibling harmonies of Charlotte and Laura Carrivick (the Carrivick Sisters) on guitar/vocals and fiddle/vocals respectively, the extraordinary talents of young mandolin player Joe Tozer and the driving and technically demanding double bass playing and harmony vocals of John Breese. With a focus on original songs with a strong pop sensibility and energetic live shows, this is a group of musicians who are very, very excited about what this line up can create and that’s what makes this acoustic quartet so special.

“…an array of carefully crafted textures; often built on rich harmonic foundations… …full of freshness and light.” – FATEA Magazine

“Love this terrific new EP from Cardboard Fox… … whole thing is ace!” – Mark Kermode

Phil Langran’s songs are a powerful combination of immediacy and slow-burning subtlety. Their melodies instantly take up residence in the mind while the lyrics pack a considerable emotional punch. This is set off to great effect by Phil’s line in dry, laconic humour which accompanies the live show. The songs and lyrics work effortlessly on different levels, belying the craftsmanship that has gone into their making. Phil is not only a fine musician but also a writer steeped in the poetic traditions of Robert Frost and Langston Hughes. The result is a brilliant intertwining of Americana, Celtic, Folk and Blues themes in distinctive original songs. Like all the best songwriters, Phil has created his own genre, where Harlem nights and New York cityscapes rub shoulders with the west coast of Ireland and scenes from Werner Herzog’s films. Phil is joined on stage by a group of musicians drawn together by the quality of his writing. The band features luminaries of the acoustic scene – Steve Benford (acoustic guitar, banjo, vocals), Mark Walker (bass, vocals), Frank McCarthy (electric guitar, vocals) and Alistair Bloomfield (fiddle).

plus The Heath Robinson String Band
“I’m not sure if it gets much better, either in terms of music from the North-East or terms of bluegrass, than The Often Herd”Mark Walsh, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

Bluegrass band The Often Herd transcend the traditional boundaries of the genre. Although they might resemble an American string band, complete with driving energy, tight vocal harmonies and dazzling instrumental interplay, their vibrant, transatlantic sound is deeply coloured by their surroundings; the striking natural and industrial landscapes of Northern England. This unique approach won them the title of “Best European Bluegrass Band 2018”at the prestigious La Roche Bluegrass Festivalin France.

Rupert Hughes (guitar) and Evan Davies (mandolin), write songs steeped in personal experience whilst drawing from a wide pool of influences ranging from old-time to psychedelia. American-born fiddler Niles Krieger and jazz bassist Sam Quintana add fiery instrumental skills to the mix, launching the band’s arrangements into the stratosphere. Together, their sound is both boldly contemporary and soothingly familiar, taking time-honoured traditions to new places with a fresh perspective.

The band have an impressive number of festivals booked this Summer (including The Long Road, Broadstairs Music Week, Ely Folk Festival& Priddy Folk Festival) and have previously showcased atIBMA Bluegrass RambleandAmericana Music Week, Hackney. They released their debut album‘Where The Big Lamp Shines’in June 2022, recorded with producer Tom Moore(Slow Worm Records, Moore, Moss, Rutter).

“A study in virtuosity from a supremely talented group of musicians.”NARC

“Keith Richards cannot be killed by conventional weapons” – Del Preston, Wayne’s World 2.

We’re choosing to believe this is true. How else could you explain the fact that despite 50 years of death, drugs, destruction and falling out of coconut trees the greatest show on earth is still on the road?
While not quite of the same vintage, The Rollin’ Clones have been entertaining crowds across the World for over 17 years, distilling the show down to a pure hit of Rock ‘n’ Roll, with a chaser of sequinned Glam.
From the early days of the Rhythm and Blues, through to the excesses of the 70s, The Rollin’ Clones’ Rock ‘n’ Roll show is a faithful interpretation of the biggest band ever’s greatest hits, delivered with a smirk and a wink, recalling the mischief making of Mr Jagger himself, remaining true to the spirit of the originals. They are, without question, THE Rolling Stones tribute band.
