A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Dizzy Lizzy
£8.00adv £10.00door
First set 8.30pm

Dizzy Lizzy are a fantastic live tribute act, dedicated to the legendary Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy. Established in 1994, their sound and set-list faithfully recreate that trademark Lizzy sound. Philomena Lynott once stated that Dizzy Lizzy are “the closest to playing my son’s music'”. The band do indeed have an amazing sound and resemblance to the classic 70s and 80s rock band, taking you back in time to relive that magical musical era with a superb blend of classic foot stomping rock anthems and emotive ballads.

One of the country's most dynamic tribute acts, they are the only act to have headlined both the ‘Vibe for Philo’ in Dublin & ‘Remember Phil & Gary’ event in Holland. They have also performed and toured with original Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell whose reaction on first seeing the band was telling. “I could only watch three numbers owing to the emotions. The resemblance to Phil and the mannerisms and playing, it was spooky – it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck…”

Biography
After the indefinite hiatus in 2013 of UK alt country outfit Ahab, song writer Steven Llewellyn went on to form his own band with the help of Ahab originator Dave Burn.

Being firmly a part of the London country scene made it easy to get involved in collaborations with members of bands like Danny & The Champions of The World, who’s drummer Steve Brookes, already having toured heavily with Ahab, became a permanent member of Orphan Colours in 2014.

A guitar tech contact of Brookes later lead to a meeting between Llewellyn and Noah & The Whale guitarist Fred Abbott. The lead guitarist was in the midst of auditioning lead singers for his solo project and the two found common ground in their appreciation of Tom Petty and Jason Isbell. When Abbott heard Llewellyn’s demo’s for the new Orphan Colours project he immediately signed up.

Graham Knight was quickly drafted in on bass and vocals, having already played shows with ahab throughout 2012, he was an obvious fit.

Hope In High Water
£6.00adv £8.00door
plus Square One
Hope In High Water are a duo from Milton Keynes, UK whose distinctly British take on acoustic Americana has captivated audiences across the UK since early 2014. The pair incorporate folk, blues and country into their compositions, delivering what Rock’n’Reel Magazine describe as ‘exuberant songs performed with passion and intensity’.

An unlikely pair to be pushing the frontiers of the Americana/folk scene, both Josh and Carly started out in the punk scene, churning out high-energy performances and angry, politically charged music night after night. This sometimes comes as a shock to those who have come to know the pair for their intense and authentic brand of folk. However, it is from these roots that Hope In High Water developed a strong belief in the importance of honest and sincere song writing and a taste for the darker elements of the American folk tradition. By combining that approach with an intense love of various traditional forms of music from blues to country, folk to soul, the pair has found an original way of interpreting these traditional sounds.

Hope In High Water’s sound is strongly influenced by the wanderlust and sense of movement that carries through their lives. Both spent much of their childhoods travelling, Carly with her dad’s work that pulled her from place to place and country to country and Josh with his Blues musician parents who showed him the joys of a bustling bar on a Saturday night. These experiences left a longing in the pair that lead both to independently start bands and tour the UK and Europe throughout their early twenties.

It is through the travelling lifestyle that the two were to meet in a London venue in 2010. Crossing paths again several years later, the pair quickly formed a bond and within months were both living together and beginning to collaborate musically. With the demise of both of their respective bands, Josh and Carly both quickly began to again feel that familiar pull of the road and decided to take the dark, roots inspired brand of folk they had been honing at home out into the world.

It's been so long since the olden days when I was on Top of the Pops prancing around with Fairground Attraction. That year we won awards for the best single (Perfect) and best album (The First of a Million Kisses) on the worst TV show ever (the 1989 Brit Awards with Sam Fox and Mick Fleetwood) before, like all good groups, we fell out when the royalties came in. I had all these songs that were supposed to be our second album, so my good friend Brian Kennedy and me became Sweetmouth and made Goodbye to Songtown. After that I got a call from Morrissey, “send me some music” he said, I sent it, we recorded an album (Kill Uncle ) and a bit (Your Arsenal ) and four singles (Our Frank, Sing Your Life, My Love Life, Pregnant For The Last Time). Kirsty MacColl, my old mate from way back yonder, got back in touch and we wrote the story of our lives falling to pieces (Titanic Days). I was popular back then, all sorts of people asked me to write songs for them or with them. The brilliant Carleen Anderson and I wrote a song called Let it Last, I wrote songs with cowboys in Nashville and recorded Love Ruins Everything with Lloyd Cole in New York. I wrote a song with Carole King (!) - David Bowie covered 'I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday' (a song I wrote with Morrissey) - I even had George Martin conducting the orchestra on ‘I’m Yours’ a song I wrote with Ringo Starr. But that’s all over now, back in 1999, my publisher told me I was committing commercial suicide when I decided to keep the songs to myself and record a solo album. But I did anyway, with Liam Watson (who went on to win a Grammy for his work with The White Stripes) at the crusty old mixing desk of the legendary and now defunct Pathway Studios. With the help of my Fairground friends, Roy Dodds on drums and Roger Beaujolais on vibraphone, we made Insensitive Songwriter. My publisher was right, but that didn’t stop me doing another one, and in 2002 I put out The Mighty Dove . Both records are flawed but, I think, they contain some really good stuff too. So now? I’ve done another one! It's called ‘Stand Beside Me In The Sun’ and it is out now.

FINAL UK TOUR !
Please join Bob for his last UK tour dates and his 76th Birthday on this very day to boot.

Long recognized by peers as being blessed with the acute vision of a master painter coupled with the precision attention to detail of a great novelist, Cheevers has written over 3,000 songs in his five decade career. Along the way he has rightfully earned the mantle of master songwriter as well as the respect of his many songwriting pals, including Texas icon Ray Wiley Hubbard, who recently said, “Bob is one cool scarecrow gypsy poet who writes and sings the romantic beautiful truth. When he releases a record, I listen.”
Also a cult favorite in the UK and Europe where he has toured for more than a decade, Cheevers continues to find inspiration in the life he’s chosen in Texas as well as the rich Southern heritage that came from his growing up in Memphis. His rootsy, blues-flavored songs spin tales of life in a conversational language of the heart that rock the soul. They are intimate and expansive, poignant and bracing, tender and raucous, unflinchingly honest and redemptively healing. As he laughingly is known to say, “I don’t know if these stories are true, but they happened to me.”
