A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

They are on a high at the moment after the release this year of their stunning award winning new album "Doctor Doctor", along with a National Tour plus big festival shows.

"One of the most technically gifted guitarists I have ever seen, channeling Hendrix, Satriani and Vai in equal measure in her guitar and PJ Harvey, Suzanne Vega and Bonnie Rait through her vocals. Roz nearly knocked me off my chair with her dark, twisted and beautiful songs." - Off Beat Magazine

Marcus Malone Band

Doors 7:30pm
Hailing from Detroit Michigan, Blues guitarist Marcus Malone was initially coveted by Motown records - working on demos with some of the biggest names in the business - before being moved to LA by Ike Turner’s management team and signing with United Artists Records. Growing up in Detroit meant he was always open to musical diversity, hanging out the MC5 and opening for Bog Seger and Iggy Pop, but it was his passion for rocking Blues that led him to Europe.

He quickly made an impact by opening for BB King at the Albert Hall and he hit the Euro festival circuit in support of a brace of British label rock/Blues solo albums. Ironically for an exiled American musician, it led to one of his songs ‘One More Time’ appearing on the celebrated 'Blueprint - Best of British Blues' album.

Comparisons with Paul Rodgers are merited for a supreme vocal stylist who is equally at home singing blues/rock as he is soulfully phrasing heartfelt lyrics. Marcus’ well deserved critical recognition has resulted in nominations for 2017 European Blues awards for 'Best Vocalist' and 'Best Album' in addition to a nomination by the UK Blues Awards 2018 for 'Best Male Vocalist'.

English singer-songwriter duo Kami Thompson and James Walbourne have reached deep into their rich musical histories to concoct the kind of sharp, true folk rock blend rarely heard since the Seventies. Produced with indie legend Edwyn Collins and featuring folk frontierswoman Eliza Carthy on fiddle, The Rails debut album Fair Warning is a little wonder, packed with traditional and original songs that stand outside of time yet resonate with contemporary urgency. Recognising perfection when they hear it, Island records have revived their vintage Pink Label for the duo, home to John Martyn, Nick Drake and Fairport Convention.

Stipe (R.E.M. Tribute)
£10.00adv £12.00door
R.E.M. are one of the world’s most enigmatic bands. With a string of peerless albums; one eye on the underground and one eye on the soaring chorus; we will never see their like again. From “The One I Love” through to “The End of the World” and more besides.
Stipe bring you all the top songs from these icons including “Losing My Religion”, and “Man on the Moon” and with all the atmosphere, attitude, emotion, and energy you’d expect. Stipe will provide the same cagey mix of attitude, poetry and idiosyncratic sound built around jangling guitars and hazy vocals of frontman Michael Stipe.
Whether it’s playing major festivals or appearing on the One Show, performing for Michael Stipe himself, Stipe are the definitive R.E.M. tribute – a complete band, and encyclopaedic knowledge of the back catalogue. They bring R.E.M. to life on stage – the contrasts and the magic; that direct connection to the music.
The boys from Athens’ legacy is in good hands.

“From the searing beauty of Chesley’s distorted cello on Vanished Star to the brutalising aesthetic of Leviathan, right through to the peace found in the closing sections of Facing The Sun, Become Zero is an affecting and profound work that inspires great empathy.”

– Record Collector, November 2016

Alison Chesley, known also by her stage name Helen Money, is a classically trained cellist who draws her inspiration not only from Pablo Casals and Shostakovich but Jimi Hendrix and The Minutemen.
She began playing the cello at the age of 8 in her hometown of Los Angeles, and through her undergrad and graduate studies, steered a course towards a career in classical music. While in Chicago attending Northwestern University, however, her focus shifted towards the rock music she had always loved. The instigation came from Jason Narducy, a singer/songwriter inspired by Bob Mould, who was looking for a cellist to perform new material with him. Together they formed the band Jason & Alison, then Verbow, becoming a force on Chicago’s active club scene. They came to the attention of Epic Records and released two recordings for the label, produced by Bob Mould and Brad Wood respectively. Alas, like many major label signings from that era they were dropped unceremoniously and disbanded. At a crossroads of sorts, Alison decided to go full steam ahead in pursuit of a career outside of classical music.
She began a busy period as a solo artist, especially on Chicago’s then thriving studio scene, where she played on over 100 albums including those by Bob Mould, Broken Social Scene, Anthrax, Mono, Russian Circles, Disturbed and Poi Dog Pondering. She began composing music for films, theater and dance including two world premiers with the modernist icon Shirley Mordine. And, in 2007, Alison wrote the first Helen Money album and released it on her own label, Cellobird Records. Since then, she’s recorded three additional albums as Helen Money, the latest of which, Become Zero, is available on Thrill Jockey Records.
Helen Money has toured the world several times over opening for bands such as Sleep, Shellac, Earth, Mono, Neurosis, Magma and Jarboe including a 2015 appearance on The David Letterman Show with Bob Mould and an appearance at the 2012 ATP Festival in London curated by Portishead.

Doors 8:00pm
Sporting a slam-bang rock 'n' roll band and a hard-core honky- tonk wail, Stacie Collins pushes the boundaries of rock, blues and country. A singer-songwriter and a bad-ass harmonica player in the style of Chicago Blues greats Little Walter and James Cotton, Collins has garnered a reputation for her high energy shows, diverse songwriting and unlike most chick-singers, they are not all about love and heartbreak.

Based in Nashville, TN, Stacie is a road warrior having performed countless shows in the USA and Europe over the past few years and has even spawned a Japanese Stacie Collins tribute band. In addition to touring, Collins, along with her writing partner, husband, band mate Al Collins (Jason & The Scorchers) have written, recorded and released five records on her own label.

Had her records been released twenty or thirty years ago, they would have sounded as natural on 70s FM radio alongside ZZ Top and The Rolling Stones as they do next to contemporary rockers like the Drive-By Truckers or Blackberry Smoke.
