A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Jenny Darren & The Ladykillers
Orginal Artist of Pat Benatar's 'Heartbreaker'
£9.00adv £10.00door
plus Silencers
Jenny Darren - a singer from the age of 12; grew up & socialised with such rock notables as 'Robert Plant' and The  Band of Joy: Slade, Jeff Lynne, Glenn Hughes ( of Trapeze and Deep Purple fame) Don Fardon, Carl Wayne and The Move, Jimmy Page etc. Performing initially at West Midlands & Birmingham venues, handled by the same local Agents who were instrumental in booking many of the above.

Heavily influenced by local rhythm & bluesplayers, she went on to obtain a deal with the folk/blues label  'Transatlantic  records' in her formative teenage years. Eventually in her early twenties, Jenny burst onto the rock scene supporting AC/DC on tour. Probably the only Female rock singer who has ever done so.

Missing out by a hairs breadth, with a late single release of "Heartbreaker," which was a hit for American Rock  vocalist Pat Benatar, but written for her by Manchester songwriting team - Geoff Gill & Cliff Wade.
After recording and releasing no less than four albums on DJM records, featuring the likes of future Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain, and many gigs, tours ,& Festivals later, she hung up her rock heels for a more standard attire; giving up the rock world & travelling in to other more jazz & crossover classical avenues.
Fast forward, and 2014 sees her returning again to her rock roots. Angel Air records released a' Best of' Compilation of the DJM vinylreleases, getting Jenny's music onto CD for the first time.Ultimately deciding to re record "Heartbreaker''on the recommendation of a friend, she began to work on a brand new album.
?
On the forthcoming release of the " Jenny Darren & The Ladykillers" album, two versions of Heartbreaker are featured, plus a brand new take on her rock classic.."Ladykiller"Amongst a host of other gems are  original songs, penned by the lady herself, plus Rock Bassist Kev Moore, and other classics both old & new.

£8.00adv £10.00door
plus The Wilbur Project
The Bronsons are a London and Oxfordshire-based high-energy garage rock rhythm and blues band playing a 50/50 mix of original material and obscure covers. Their influences range from 60's beat, rhythm and blues and garage rock bands, through to Dr Feelgood, Eddie & the Hot Rods, The Count Bishops, The Inmates and Lew Lewis.

The band had a cult following in 1980s London, playing Le Beat Route, The Embassy Club and the legendary squatters' nightclub in Bonnington Square. After splitting in 1985 they reformed in 2013, recruiting a new bass player and new Bronsonettes. Since then a series of pub dates and festival appearances have cemented their reputation as a seriously good live act that knows how to put on a show.

Ryley Walker
£12.00adv £15.00door
plus Bill MacKay and Steve Parker
Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
In November 2015, at the end of a ten month period which saw him play over 200 shows, Ryley Walker decided that he should probably head home. However you wished to measure it, he was surely due some sort of holiday. The preceding months had been extraordinary. In March, his second album Primrose Green, emerged to critical hosannas from the likes of NPR, Village Voice, Uncut, and Mojo – in the process, earning admiration of musicians who had chalked up no shortage of turntable miles in Walker’s life. Robert Plant declared himself a fan – as did double-bass legend Danny Thompson, with whom Ryley would later embark on a British tour. For all of that, a holiday was the last thing on Ryley’s mind – and certainly not a holiday in his adopted hometown. After a year spent on the road, all that Ryley could associate with Chicago was the emotional debris he had left behind.

Drag City's Bill MacKay and Ryley Walker created a 2015 album together.

Most of these compositions are built from layers of guitars that weave in and out of harmony, offering various tones and textures. a few songs celebrate the lone guitar and traditional fingerpicking, there is also an expansive range at play with the frequent use of the slide, from a delta blues sound to a more tripped out moan. bits of percussion liven up some jams, a touch that reminds me of sandy bull. all the guitar work on 'esker' is languid and deliberate, it feels effortless. highly recommended.

She is currently prepping her 3rd full-length record, which, according to Gibson is "the best thing I've made, ever".

"Reid is a remarkably talented, assured, clever and confident singer-songwriter..... a
devastating youthful wisdom that gives her songs a feeling of lasting profundity."
The Guardian

“For a new artist, her confident grace is all the more remarkable” Pitchfork

“A young New Zealand singer-songwriter you'll feel you've known forever” MOJO

Billed as an “ode to self-reflection and self-betterment”, Nadia Reid’s beautiful new album finds the New Zealander in warmly captivating form, her stunning voice, which landed such a hefty blow on her 2015 debut, sounding more earthy and worn than ever before. The result is an artist growing in front of our eyes; a talented songwriter who can make you see the world a little differently with just the simplest of songs. We can’t wait for this one.

Sly & The Family Drone
£7.00adv £8.50door
The Other Window PRESENTS:
Using only drums and processed cassettes, and incorporating many elements of avant-garde music and sound art in their realisation, Sly & The Family Drone are a primal orchestra of drum rhythms, radiophonic oscillator noise and electronically-abstracted vocals. They forge hypnotic, textural workouts in the vein of Black Dice, Shit & Shine and Crash Worship.

Sly's reductionist take on music is literal; they split their drum kit to its singular base units, passing individual drums to the audience who maintain the beat while they free themselves for more noise and freestyle mayhem, ultimately eliminating any boundaries between spectator and performer. This egalitarian approach propels audience and band together into a shamanistic setting of catharsis and anarchic celebration. By the end of the set their drums and equipment are scattered; the remnants of their music lying bare across the floor.

There is no place for guitars within this band.
