A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

The Rainbreakers
£6.00adv £8.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Since forming in 2012, Rainbreakers have developed their sound into a fusion of dynamic elements, bridging the gaps between Blues, Rock, Pop and Soul, exemplifying a diverse and ever-growing musical palette. The songs can shift between gritty to delicate in an instant while the melodic and pop-like hooks combined with the raw and garage-esque backdrop forge an inspiring combination. The band’s spirit draws significant influence from older artists such as Free and Humble Pie, yet expresses a strong connection with contemporary bands like The London Souls, The Black Keys, Monophonics and Gary Clark Jr. In the last year, Rainbreakers have reached new heights, with a string of live dates up and down the country supporting the likes of Corky Laing (Mountain), The London Souls, The Devon Allman Band and Laurence Jones. Their performance at the 2015 Great British Rock and Blues Festival in Skegness saw them win the crowd vote on the Introducing Stage and gain a place on the Main Stage at this year’s festival. The bands efforts have even gained the attention of The British Blues Awards, who nominated Rainbreakers for The Barry Middleton Award for Emerging Artist 2016.

The Rainbreakers new CD Rise Up is released on 7th April 2017 and will be available at this gig.

Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Damnably & Magic Teapot presents
Otoboke Beaver ???????? are a punk-rock-garage quartet from Kyoto, Japan.

The band’s name is taken from a local ‘Love Hotel’ and they describe themselves as: “Japanese girls ‘knock out or pound cake’ band”.

Formed in 2009’s summer at Kyoto University’s music club (where Emi Morimoto of Shonen Knife had learnt drums a few years prior) the band consists of Accorinrin (Lead Vocal & Guitar), Yoyoyoshie (Guitar &Vocals), Hiro-chan (Bass &Vocals) and Pop (Drums &Vocals). Inspired by 70's/80's alternative Japanese acts such as Yipoos/Hikasyu and more recently Afrirampo, Otoboke Beaver created their own abrasive sound that became faster the more they enjoyed it until it was at break-neck speed. They only sing in Kyoto slang reflecting the proud ‘Kansai triangle’ music scene of Kyoto, Osaka and Kobe that produced Boredoms, Acid Mothers Temple and Shonen Knife.

Live the band often invade the audience and drill through 18-20 songs in a set. Regular touring has built a strong fan-base in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo where they shared stages with Shonen Knife, Guitar Wolf, Pika?, The Floating Guitar Borchestra of BOREDOMS, DMBQ, and BO NINGEN.

In 2016 Damnably Records released the compilation album "Okoshiyasu!! Otoboke Beaver" followed by the new EP "Bakuro Book" both of which gleaned considerable radio play from Gideon Coe/Tom Ravenscroft (BBC 6 Music), Vic Galloway (BBC Radio Scotland), John Kennedy (Radio X), Dani Charlton (Amazing Radio) and Jon Solomon (WFMU). A whirlwind mostly sold-out UK tour ensued with 6 gigs & Radio X session in 5 days. in 2017 the band will play SXSW and release a new EP before this tour.

Carter Sampson

plus Sophia Dady
Carter Sampson is an Okie born, Oklahoma based singer-songwriter. Blessed by a musical legacy from a family that includes such talents as Roy Orbison, Carter’s journey as a musician seems to have been predestined. A naturally independent free spirit, what started as a pastime at age 15 had matured into a dedicated passion of creation and performance. Her empowering, relatable and appealing music has garnered her an incredibly diverse and loyal fan base. Audiences and sound engineers alike find that appearances can be deceiving as this diminutive figure delivers a powerful and compelling performance. Carter has made several appearances at the songwriter’s Mecca, The Blue Door, both opening for artists such as Patrice Pike, Lucy Kaplansky and Susan Gibson as well as headlining her own shows. She has also played The Blue Door's Annual Tribute to Woody Guthrie along with Ray Wylie Hubbard and Kevin Welch. Her songs have been played on radio stations nationwide and she makes live radio appearances regularly. Carter also plays many outdoor festivals which have included the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival, the Paseo Arts Festival, the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts and The Illinois River Jam. She spent a year playing music in the subways of Boston creating a following there that quickly led to club dates in Massachusetts and the Northeast. Carter has opened shows for artist like The Elephant Revival, Pat Green and toured Texas and Oklahoma with Bitch and Animal of Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records. Sampson was named a "Top 12 Finalist" in the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest and preformed at The Lincoln Center in NY, NY. The Telluride Bluegrass Festival's Troubadour Contest gave Sampson an "Honorable Mention".

Wreckless Eric
£10.00adv £12.00door
You can't talk about Wreckless Eric without mentioning his enduring hit Whole Wide World-covered in stadiums and sheds from Aberdeen to Alabama -but there's more to him than just that. With over 40 years of recording and touring behind him he shuns the dictates of nostalgia and doesn’t do comebacks for the simple reason that he never went away. His 2015 album ‘amERICa’was an urgent reminder of what he’s about, and new album Construction Time & Demolitionis a musically complex trawl through the psyche of a man with plenty to say and nothing to lose. It's always been that way: loud, dissonant, lyrical and gently melodic -cogent music for desperate times.

Midnight Sun return to The Musician featuring their new album launch show. After a appearance at Danfest6 last year, their blend of classic rock and prog certainly opened a few eyes and ears. Making a welcome return also are Sweden's Introitus who graced the stage in September 2015. Unique in their own right mixing elements of traditional prog and folk also with some albums under their belts definitely a band to see. Completing the trio are Italian based Karmamoi with their style of prog and modern day rock. A great line up and example of great music around today.

Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Like her former band Stereolab, Laetitia Sadier’s new solo album draws on sounds ranging from French yé-yé to krautrock, though its tone is earthier. It features a duet with Hot Chip’s Alexis Taylor. (Pitchfork April 2017)

While Find Me Finding You won’t necessarily offend dyed-in-the-woofer Stereolab aficionados--no apple need ever fall far from such an efflorescent tree - it still successfully stakes out a corner of its own, its abstract yet meticulously formal layers suggesting an aural Mondrian painting. (Record Collector April 2017)

Throwing down a persuasive gauntlet, opener Undying Love For Humanity is all breezy percussion, percolating synths, chiming vibraphones and complex, wordless backing vocal arrangements - a sunny, tropicalia-like setting for Sadier's typically liquid delivery of lyrics. [Apr 2017, Mojo)

Doctors Of Madness
£10.00adv £12.00door
plus Kevin Hewick
The Doctors of Madness are the great outsiders of rock history. They are the missing link between Prog-rock and Punk Rock. In the words of Def Leppard’s frontman Joe Elliot, they were “Mosntrously brilliant”.
The band had been together for three and a half years and had a loyal, committed following when they decided to call it a day. They were finally floored by the killer punch of punk rock, which, like a raw, swaggering, bare-knuckle fighter, saw off many established bands in the period between 1976 and 1978. The fact that the Doctors of Madness were one of the few British bands who could credibly have claimed to have been ‘proto-punk’, with their frantic delivery, their preoccupation with urban neurosis and systems of control, their appetite for fast drugs and their exotic stage names, was not enough to earn them a reprieve. Nor was the fact that their fans included The Damned, The Skids, The Adverts, Simple Minds, Julian Cope and Spiritualized. Even the fact that they gave The Sex Pistols their first out-of-London gig didn’t save them from the punk juggernaut, which flattened everything in its path.

FUZZED OUT MOTORIK PSYCHEDELIC GOTH PUNKS

“White Hills have emerged from its deep sheets of psychedelia and smoke machine-cascading haze, glaring lights and all-out noise for a sinister beast of minimalist psych grooves and seductive danceibility.” - Noisey

“A staple on the touring circuit where their explosive fusion of psychedelic, space rock, post-punk, krautrock, and ambient experimentation makes their performances feel less like traditional rock shows and more like full body and mind experiences.” - She Shreds Magazine

The Feelgood Band
£8.00adv £10.00door
High energy Rhythm & Blues played the Canvey Island way, recreating the energy and the unmistakeable sounds of 1970's Dr Feelgood. Take a step back in time and hear the distinctive vocal styling/harmonica playing of Mr Brilleaux and the unique sound and style of the "Wilko" guitar.

The focus is on entertaining, with all the wonderful songs and signature moves! The band clearly enjoy themselves; their enthusiasm and passion for Dr Feelgood oozes out of every choppy chord and riff and this infects the audience more and more with every song. What more can be said. "They do it right".......if anybody should know, The Big Figure or Wilko's brother should know....right?
"Well done boys" John Martin The Big Figure
"Top job guys, takes me back!" Malcolm Wilkinson - Wilko's brother.

Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
The number of awards, accolades and five star reviews that Ange Hardy has acquired over the last few years is simply staggering but every dingle one has been entirely merited. They play an astonishing array of instruments astonishingly well and Hardy is a songwriter of rare power. Mike Harding ("the real deal"), Mark Radcliffe "beautiful"), Fatea ("something really special") and many more have recognised Hardy's talent and it's a delight to welcome her and Lucas to The Musician for the first time.

Last seen in Leicester doing a superb set supporting Nancy Kerr, MarisaJack&Davy are among the most innovative artists on the folk scene. Their takes on traditional songs are invigorating and refreshing and their playing and singing is superb.
