A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Doors 8:00pm
We're delighted to be welcoming back Garland Jeffreys to the Musician. A critically acclaimed singer, songwriter and instrumentalist, Garland has earned a loyal international audience for his intelligent and passionate songs, informed by a variety of musical styles from rock and R&B to reggae and dance music, and dealing with topics both personal and political, often at the same time. While not especially prolific - he released a mere five studio albums between 1981 and 2011 - Jeffreys' work reveals a rock & roller's soul and a poetic sensibility that have earned him the respect of musical peers such as the late Lou Reed, Bruce Springsteen, David Johansen, and John Cale.

A Foreigners Journey
PAYING TRIBUTE TO TWO OF THE GREATEST ROCK BANDS OF OUR TIME
£10.00adv £12.00door
Legendary bands Foreigner and Journey are giants of the AOR (Adult Orientated Rock) and Classic Rock genres, attracting huge audiences as live acts since forming in the 1970’s. The two bands have achieved massive commercial and critical success and both sold in excess of 80 million albums, with their supreme musical quality ensuring that they’ve never been victims of trends or passing fashions, and even their earliest hits are still being played on radio shows worldwide every day.

Sadly for those in the UK, their shows over here have been few and far between, and most fans of their music have not experienced the thrill of hearing it played live. Thankfully, however, the next best thing is here in the shape of the award-winning band A FOREIGNER'S JOURNEY.

The Mick Pini Band
£10.00
With a life-time in music, you will hear echoes and influences from the whole tradition of the blues in his playing. His uncompromising adherence to a genuine belief in his music has never been deflected. His distinctive raw, attacking riffs and phrases are reminiscent of such legendary names as Freddie King, Albert Collins or T-Bone Walker.

Mick Pini started playing guitar as a young boy back in 1960. Since then he’s paid his dues in pubs, clubs, festivals, concert halls - even busking on the streets. Over a lifetime he’s worked with all sorts: BB King, Doctor Ross, Professor Longhair, Rich Grech, Mojo Buford, Louisana Red, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Chris Farlowe, Mike Vernon and Luther Allison. Pini has more recently worked with Roy Estrada and Jimmy Carl Black.

Eric Clapton called him the “legitimate successor to Peter Green”, while Mick Vernon described him as “having the energy and attack that made Freddie King one of the greats. There are too few great guitarists working the European scene. Sure there are many good ones, but only a few have the potential to make a mark in a way Peter Green did many years ago”.

A veteran on the blues circuit, Mick now lives in Germany but is very much the real deal and a fascinating character as well as one hell of a guitar player.

As Peter Green is said to have said, ‘it’s is the notes that he doesn’t play that makes him’.

Playing live - Mick will be playing with Strange Blues as his band in England for this tour . They have steadily earned a reputation as a blistering live act, gigging steadily around the East Midlands and supporting and playing with the likes of Sally Barker and Aynsley Lister.

Doors 7:30pm
True to Luke Daniels' DNA, his music is founded upon the finest folk traditions, but he is nothing if not a 21st century troubadour. It's that mixture of the time-honoured and the timely that is at the heart of his ability to connect with fans across a broad spectrum of forebears, from Fairport Convention to Randy Newman to XTC. Featured on Folk Radio UK as “classic contemporary folk” and ???? in Songlines magazine for his “topical innovative songwriting.” Frontiersman is not too strong a word.

Mat and Paolo play a diverse, dynamic live set illustrating all shades of Blues and allowing each other’s instrumental, vocal and improvisational qualities to shine. Each performance is rock-solid, yet full of inspiration and spontaneity.
Mat and Paolo are an "Electric Blues Duo" as they use old tube amplifiers creating a rich tone that brings the listeners back to the very early days of the 1950’s Chicago Blues. Think of Muddy Waters plugging his red Telecaster for the first time into an old tube amplifier and Little Walter blowing his harmonica through an old Fender Champ amplifier. The result is a magical performance that stands out for its intensity and energy. Although there are two people on stage, they sound like a 10 piece Blues band.
Living in Manchester and strongly influenced by its Afro-Caribbean community, Mat and Paolo also pay homage to Ska, blending the uplifting rhythms of this genre with the spirit and sentiment of the Blues.

Findley Webster & Shotty 4HF
Album Launch Gig
£10.00
In the summer of 2015 the paths of Findley and Shotty were destined to cross.

Findley, recently returned from a trip to LA where she'd met up with Marcella Detroit, who was on the hunt for a dance producer.  Marcella was working on a drum and bass re-mix of Shakespeare’s Sister hit ‘Stay’ and when Findley landed back in the UK she had ideas of her own for the track. With Marcella’s encouragement to “give it a go yourself”, Findley decided to track down Shotty, the producer who was a rising star on the dance scene.

The collaboration on their ‘Stay’ re-mix moved onto working together on new material.  The first results of that collaboration is “X OVER”  an EP of exciting, innovative and dramatic music;  music that needs a live audience and with its epic feel could be at home on TV or in film.

Findley and Shotty launched the album with a refreshing and intimate live performance in front of an enthusiastic audience on June 4th at Harborough Theatre.
