A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Doors 8:00pm
The group Churchfitters was founded in 1978 by singer/songwriter Anthony McCartan from Belfast and multi-instrumentist Geoff Coombs from Essex.
Rosie Short joined soon after its formation having previously been playing in a London-based traditional Irish outfit. During the years that followed, the group frequently changed its line-up making a point of always including members from diverse musical backgrounds in order to maintain a fresh and original approach to folk music. They enjoyed great success on the East Anglian folk scene before slimming down to a duo (Anthony and Rosie) in order to tour extensively throughout Europe and even as far as Australia.
In 1993 the duo decided to move to Brittany and was joined by Rosie's brother Chris who had been in London playing in World, Irish and Bluegrass groups. From their base in Brittany they then toured as a trio throughout France and Europe until Anthony's departure in early 2004.
Boris Lebret joined in 2004 with his astonishing array of home made scrap-metal instruments unique in the world, along with Topher Loudon on vocals and guitar. Topher left the band in 2012 and they were joined on their UK tours for the next couple of years by friend and musician Nelson on vocals and percussion.
The group continues to explore new ways of playing, arranging and presenting their folk music today, both as a trio (Rosie, Chris and Boris) and as a quartet along with their latest member, drummer Margaux Scherer who joined in 2013. This excellent young French drummer and percussionist is a permanent fixture on all their French and Continental tours and also accompanies them in the UK for festival dates.
And the unique and unmistakable sound of the Churchfitters continues ...

Special guest Austin de Lone
Doors 8:00pm
Bill Kirchen and Austin de Lone team up for a hands-across-the-Atlantic collection with their new studio album, Transatlanticana, out on 3rd March 2017 through Proper Records. This album unites the pioneers of two major musical movements on record for the first time after decades of playing together.

Bill co-founded the original “Americana” band, Commander Cody and his Lost Planet Airmen, and his trademark Telecaster licks drove their hit “Hot Rod Lincoln” into the Billboard Top 10 in 1972.

Austin de Lone dropped out of Harvard to start the band Eggs Over Easy, moving to London and recording with Jimi Hendrix’s producer/manager Chas Chandler in 1970. The Eggs are the acknowledged progenitors of British “Pub Rock”, the first link in the chain to punk rock, new wave and beyond.

£10.00adv £10.00door
Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
It's a pleasure to welcome Vera van Heeringen and Neil McSweeney back to Leicester after too long away. Once part of the New Rope String Band, she has also played at the Grand Ole Opry, is a hugely accomplished acoustic guitarist and a fine songwriter with two solo albums to her credit.

Neil McSweeney's new album, A Coat Worth Wearing, will be out to coincide with this gig and contains yet more examples of his superlative songwriting. Live he is an energetic delight, having supported Bellowhead a few years ago and also worked with the likes of Jon Boden and Lucy Farrell.

Together Neil and Vera are an absolute delight. Their schedules mean that they rarely play together so this is an opportunity not to be missed.

The Rollin' Clones

“Keith Richards cannot be killed by conventional weapons” – Del Preston, Wayne’s World 2.

We’re choosing to believe this is true. How else could you explain the fact that despite 50 years of death, drugs, destruction and falling out of coconut trees the greatest show on earth is still on the road?
While not quite of the same vintage, The Rollin’ Clones have been entertaining crowds across the World for over 17 years, distilling the show down to a pure hit of Rock ‘n’ Roll, with a chaser of sequinned Glam.
From the early days of the Rhythm and Blues, through to the excesses of the 70s, The Rollin’ Clones’ Rock ‘n’ Roll show is a faithful interpretation of the biggest band ever’s greatest hits, delivered with a smirk and a wink, recalling the mischief making of Mr Jagger himself, remaining true to the spirit of the originals. They are, without question, THE Rolling Stones tribute band.

Five Grand Stereo
£4.00adv £5.00door
plus support
The idea behind Five Grand Stereo, says lead songwriter Chris Singleton, is to take a 1970s band, shove them in a time machine, deposit them in the present day and ask them to make a record about the world they find themselves in.

The result: a darkly humorous and theatrical concept album (there's even a Greek chorus) about sex, money and missing David Bowie.

Four-part harmonies, duelling guitars, raspy sax and above all, soaring melodies abound; classic artists like Marc Bolan, Bryan Ferry, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed and the Thin White Duke himself are frequently referenced sonically, but put through Five Grand Stereo's proprietary blender to create some delightfully quirky results. Taking aim at everything from reality TV to sexism, the band somehow manage to conjure up the sounds of 75...to take a pop at today. All while bashing some instantly memorable tunes into your eardrums.

Ezio
£12.50adv £14.00door
Recorded in the company of house-trained rabbits on an industrial estate in Cambridge, Daylight Moon, Ezio’s ninth studio album is their most personal yet. The visceral honesty of frontman Ezio Lunedei’s lyrics is laid bare in tracks like ‘Indian’, an ode to feeling overcome by forces beyond his control, and ‘Dirty Little Secret’, a Nick-Drake-esque ditty where he tries to unpick the emotions of an unnamed muse that he just can’t quite suss out.
In their 26-year career, the band have made a habit of dabbling in any style of music that takes their fancy; Daylight Moon is no different. From the crunching blues-rock guitars of ‘Crushed’ to the jazz rhythms of ‘The Gypsy Song’, there’s plenty of genre hopping on show here.
What’s always set Ezio apart is the connection between Lunedei and guitarist Booga. The frontman’s rich tenor and complex acoustic guitar work is complimented by Booga’s incessant lead guitar; regularly squeezing in an extra note that shouldn’t be possible, but somehow managing to work. One could try and compare him to other great guitarists, but they would be wasting their time – Booga truly has a unique style, and it needs to be witnessed in the flesh.
To celebrate the release of Daylight Moon, Ezio will be touring Germany throughout November and December 2016, and will return to the road again in the spring of 2017 with dates in Britain and Germany. Fans can expect favourites from the new album and classics from Ezio’s ever-expanding repertoire.

Jesca Hoop’s new album Memories Are Now, out February 10 on Sub Pop Records, wastes no time in making clear its confidence, confrontation, and craftsmanship. The stark and reverberant title track opens the set with “a fighting spirit,” says Hoop, serving as an anthem to push through any obstacle and put forth your very best work. And she has unequivocally done that here, with an album of stunningly original songs–minimalist yet brimming with energy, emerging from a wealth of life experience, great emotional depth, and years of honing the craft of singing.
