A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

A Foreigner's Journey
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Legendary bands Foreigner and Journey are giants of the AOR (Adult Orientated Rock) and Classic Rock genres, attracting huge audiences as live acts since forming in the 1970’s. The two bands have achieved massive commercial and critical success and both sold in excess of 80 million albums, with their supreme musical quality ensuring that they’ve never been victims of trends or passing fashions, and even their earliest hits are still being played on radio shows worldwide every day.

Sadly for those in the UK, their shows over here have been few and far between, and most fans of their music have not experienced the thrill of hearing it played live. Thankfully, however, the next best thing is here in the shape of the award-winning band A FOREIGNER'S JOURNEY.

John Otway
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Rock veteran Otway dubbed himself "rock'n'roll's greatest failure" after many unsuccessful attempts to produce a second hit single to follow his 1977 classic (Cor Baby, That's) Really Free with Wild Willy Barrett.

However, a mere quarter century later, he was back on Top of The Pops with the wonderful disco pastiche, ‘Bunsen Burner’ and back in the charts as a birthday present from his adoring and patient fans.

And, more recently, his "Beware Of The Flowers Cause I'm Sure They're Going To Get You Yeah" voted the seventh greatest lyric of all time in a BBC poll.

As ever, Otway attacks his favourite set list with gusto, leaving plenty of room for anarchy, fun and acrobatics that are his trademark.

"He's a cabaret act masquerading as a rock act. He is gleeful, anecdotal, funny and life-enhancing." -

SPECIAL CHRISTMAS GIG IN SUPPORT OF and RAISING FUNDS FOR 'MOMENTUM'

After 27 years the Birmingham based cult skiffle cow-punk band Terry and Gerry reformed for a tour in honour of their biggest fan, the late John Peel.

In the mid-eighties the four piece band released six singles and one album. From Lubbock to Clintwood East: Each went to Number One in the indie charts. Reviewing their single on Radio One Morrissey declared "I love it!! Don't know why!!" The band toured extensively in the UK, Europe and America gathering fans from Joe Strummer of The Clash to Shane MacGowan from The Pogues.

Terry and Gerry regularly appeared on radio and TV, including sessions for The Old Grey Whistle Test and The Tube, they wrote numerous theme tunes for Central TV and were the subject of a 30 minute documentary by the legendary film maker Norman Hull, which aired on British Television in July 1986.

Still as energetic and vibrant as ever they continue to chronicle the lives of the people from the city they love, Birmingham.

Nick Harper & The Wilderness Kids
£14.00adv £16.00door
plus Phil Doleman
After leaving a streak of rip-roaring, celebratory shows in 2016, road-testing his back catalogue of 12 albums, Nick Harper & The Wilderness Kids (aka Port Erin) are back with a new album Lies! Lies! Lies! and UK tour for 2017.

Amidst a backdrop of flags being changed and mottos applied, ‘’350 million reasons why, written on the side of the bus’’, sees Nick and The Kids nailing their colours to the mast and ready to roll.

The album was recorded in Studio La Fabrique, France (Radiohead- Moon Shaped Pool, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds-Push the Sky Away) with the legendary producer Tchad Blake (The Black Keys, Pearl Jam, T-Bone, Peter Gabriel). Blake brings his masterful touch to the unceasingly creative cauldron of Nick, his songs and now, his band.

‘The Wilderness Kids’ met up with the renowned solo acoustic singer-songwriter at a record store day event, where they jammed on some of Nick’s tracks from his ‘Best of’ triple LP set ‘The Wilderness Years’. Nick immediately realised the potential, promptly picked up a baritone electric guitar and the pace hasn’t let up since. The exciting energy and chemistry between the 4 has had Nick’s fans in rapture and the combination of the much-loved songwriter added to the zest present in this new gang, made capturing the zeitgeist in the words and music of the new album inevitable. Lies! Lies! Lies! is an intelligent, yet exuberant album rooted very much in the now.

Fans can grab first copies of the upcoming album at the gigs on CD or LP from November 24th, in the commercial hubris of Black Friday. Initial pressings can be snatched up on the Lies! Lies! Lies! tour with a general UK release on December 1st.

U.K Subs
£12.00adv £14.00door
ANDY WRIGHT PRESENTS:
With 2016 marking the U.K. Subs’ 40th anniversary; this legendary punk band continues to represent the true spirit of punk rock. Inspired by the Damned at the birth of British Punk, the now equally legendary Charlie Harper formed the Subs out of his then R&B outfit The Marauders, late in 1976.
Starting out as The Subversives, the name was shortened to The Subs and then changed to U.K. Subs, whilst early line-ups merged their high-speed R&B sound into punk.
October 1977 saw Charlie joined by Nicky Garratt on guitar, and it was the Harper/Garratt song writing partnership that would go on to collaborate on the band's most successful record releases. Through 1977 and 1978 the band played shows all over London including the infamous Roxy punk club.

Magic Teapot + The Other Window presents

MUGSTAR is a psychedelic rock band from Liverpool, England

Mugstar are the sound of 10,000 suns exploding, pulsing and repetitive beauty, sounding like a sonic mantra. Mugstar set sail for the sun in 2002 and have completed numerous voyagers with the likes of Mogwai, Melt Banana, Oneida and Acid Mothers Temple.

Their tireless work ethic and astonishing, internationally renowned, live performances have earned them a much deserved status as cult heroes. Their first single ‘Spotlight Over Memphis’ caught the ears of late and great radio legend John Peel, who later went on to record them as his last-ever Peel Session in 2004. A subsequent string of singles, EP’s and several full-length albums make up the band’s back catalogue, not to mention a split release with Mudhoney, one with Oneida (on Rocket Recordings) and a collaboration with Damo Suzuki (on Important Records).

“Magnetic Seasons”, their last album for Rock Action Records (the Glaswegian label run by Mogwai) sees Mugstar shifting through a whole range of newfound sonic gears. With fresh layers and swathes of texture stretching out a much broader aural vocabulary than is often permitted during their explosive live shows, “Magnetic Seasons” is a game changer for Mugstar. Not just in terms of length, but in its fluidity and its breadth of moods and emotions locked within the songs.

One of the UK's finest Rock 'n' Roll Bands. Every time vocalist Spike self-confidently informs his enthusiastic audience 'We're the Quireboys ... and this is Rock 'n' Roll", everyone present has a pretty clear idea where this musical journey is about to lead. For years, the Quireboys have been synonymous with hand-made rock music, spiced with edgy riffs, driving rhythms and their frontman's unique voice.

With a sound that harks back to the 70's heyday of The Faces, Stones, Slade and Mott The Hoople, the band have always remained true to their roots from the start. The boys' mission is simply to keep the spirit of good time rock ‘n’ roll alive and kicking into the 21st century.

Tonight sees a return to the Musician for a special intimate unplugged show and those that have seen the band in this format before will know that although the instruments may not be electric, the same certainly cannot be said of the performance. This is one not to miss.

The Dirt Road Band is the brainchild of guitar legend Steve Walwyn, mainly known as the longest serving guitar player in Dr Feelgood (32yrs). During this time he amassed a massive reputation as a bona fide blues hero in the UK, Europe and beyond. He says "I'd always liked the idea of the power trio - stripping everything back to the basics: guitar, bass & drums. To help him in this he as recruited the services of drummer Ted Duggan, professional since the 60's including stints with Badfinger and techno giants Banco de Gaia. "I'd worked with Ted before" Steve says, "I knew he would fit this gig perfectly" ...he certainly does.

Bass player Horace Panter is better known as a founding member of The Specials. Horace has "groove" printed on his DNA, holding it down comes as second nature. This then is Steve's dream team rhythm section that swings as hard as it rocks. "We're starting to develop that musical telepathy that makes a band more than the sum of its' parts. It's a thrilling thing and keeps the blues alive".

See you down the dirt road ....
