A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

“Angeleno made him a legitimate contender to be the biggest country star L.A. has produced since Dwight Yoakam.” – LA Weekly

'[Outlaw is] leading the rebirth of L.A.’s modern country scene.' - Rolling Stone Country

'Sam Outlaw is rewriting the sound of Country, 2,000 miles from Nashville' - CBS This Morning

Cynicism comes easy, but having a soft heart takes real guts. Sam Outlaw's new album Tenderheart dares to tread gently and look inward, with unapologetic sentiment and un-ironic nods to country music's greatest neon rainbow chasers.

Since the release of his 2015 debut Angeleno, Outlaw remains one of LA's only modern country singers to earn international acclaim. And with his follow-up Tenderheart he shows an impressive refinement of his artistic identity. Sonically, the album further elaborates Outlaw's "SoCal Country" sound: a sun-bleached, Baja-influenced twang that deftly points to country's neo-traditionalists and LA's legendary singer-songwriters. Thematically Tenderheart is a thesis on self-discovery and the power of love. Alt-country pioneer Ryan Adams just recently praised Outlaw, calling his work "beyond great songwriting"

Angeleno's critical acclaim also led to 18 months of international touring. He entertained thousands of festival-goers with a prime slot at Stagecoach, made four trips to Europe, toured Australia twice and played several hundred gigs in the USA. After all those miles it's fitting that Tenderheart bottles the energy of the songs that have become mainstays of his live show. Fan-favorites like "Diamond Ring" and honky-tonk sing-along "All My Life" finally get proper studio treatment, along with "Look At You Now," a regular highlight of his acoustic tours overseas - where Outlaw is nominated for AmericanaUK's International Album of the Year alongside Sturgill Simpson and Margo Price.

Not one to mess with a winning combination, Sam called on many of the same musicians that made Angeleno such a success: harmony singer Molly Jenson, pedal steel pro Jeremy Long and guitarist Danny Garcia, along with Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes) and Bo Koster (My Morning Jacket). Produced by Martin Pradler and Outlaw and recorded in the San Fernando Valley, Tenderheart also features Erwin Vasquez and Mariachi Teocuitatlan, a local mariachi group who appeared in the video for Angeleno's title track.

Now two years into his new life, Outlaw has learned that great dreams can only be achieved at great cost. And at its core, Tenderheart is the outcome of another lesson learned: if your heart stays true, the sacrifice is worth it.

Kossoff - The Band Plays On

Doors 8:00pm
Terry Slesser, one of the country’s finest rock and blues vocalists, performing in tribute to his bandmate and friend the late, great Paul Kossoff - one of the greatest rock blues guitarists of all time. Celebrating Paul Kossoff’s entire career, the show features songs from his early days in FREE (including rock classics ALL RIGHT NOW, WISHING WELL, FIRE AND WATER etc.) through to songs from BACK STREET CRAWLER, the band Kossoff formed alongside Terry Slesser. Terry Slesser remains both a star and a master craftsman. As Paul Kossoff’s close friend and vocalist of choice, he has every right to sing every song performed by this band. Terry has assembled a great team of musicians to willingly assist him in keeping alive the memory of Paul Kossoff.

The band also features: John ‘Rhino’ Edwards, bassist with the world-famous Status Quo, Judie Tzuke, Dexy’s and Peter Green. Drummer Clive Edwards, whose resumé includes UFO, Wild Horses, Uli Jon Roth, Pat Travers. Guitarist John Buckton is relatively unknown in comparison to his band mates, but was recently reviewed as "one of the very best guitarists in British rock blues today, with a style that’s tasteful and subtle, yet which wails with true blues aggression". SIMON KIRKE himself has already said that were FREE ever to reform, John would be his choice. This is no two-bit collection of raggle-taggle pub-rock wannabes playing cover versions. This an authentic supergroup, and to all intents and purposes a direct continuation of BACK STREET CRAWLER.

£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
DIIO (pronounced D-2-O) are the ultimate tribute to the Master Of Metal, Ronnie James Dio. The idea for DIIO goes back a few years to a gig on Rhodes with Hi-On Maiden and Sack Sabbath and a long standing friendship between Matt Duggan (Ronnie) and Russ Saxton (Vivian), coupled with a mutual admiration of the immortal RJD.

One drunken evening in the summer of 2016, the plan was cemented and with the addition of Tony Clark (Jimmy) and Pete Mather (Vinnie) on bass and drums and the ultimate DIIO tribute was born. All four members are veterans of the tribute circuit and have played (and still play) in some of the most respected outfits in the UK.

As well as all the classics from RJD's solo career, DIIO also plays the very best cuts from his time in Rainbow and Black Sabbath. Expect to hear classics including Holy Diver, Don't Talk To Strangers, Heaven and Hell, Neon Knights, Stargazer, Kill The King and many, many more all delivered with a precision and attention to detail that is second to none.

Saxonized are the only Saxon tribute band from the UK. Their set list comprises of classic Saxon tunes from the 80s and 90s and 00's such as Denim and Leather, Wheels of Steel, Forever Free, Never Surrender, Ride like the wind, Rock and Roll Gypsy, Strong Arm of The Law, The Eagle Has Landed, Motorcycle man, Battalions of Steel, Rock the Nations, Dogs of War, Battering Ram.. plus many more! With their strongest line-up ever Saxonized are making their presence known on the tribute circuit and are gaining rave reviews wherever they play.

Influenced by bands such as AC/DC, Iron Maiden and the Foo Fighters, the band have a reputation for delivering no-nonsense, gutsy, classic British rock music.

Tonight sees the release of their 3rd album, 'The Amazing Memoirs Of Geoffrey Goddard'. Singer/guitarist Steve Hill said: “We have been living and breathing this for a couple of years now; writing, crafting, honing what has become our third album. We have gone old school with the whole thing, from recording it ‘as a band in a room’, through to gatefold vinyl and really going to town on the artwork. So, to say we can’t wait for folk to hear it and experience it, is possibly THE understatement of 2017.”

Sally Barker with Keith Richard Buck

Sally is re-united for this first show of the year by multi- nstrumentalist Keith Richard Buck.
Sally Barker's appearance as Sir Tom Jones' finalist in the Voice UK 2014 belies a long career in music - one that wasn't spent singing pop covers for a light entertainment audience but fashioned in the folk clubs of the British Isles. In a career spanning the best
part of 40 years, English singer/songwriter Sally has released a string of solo albums and been a part of dozens more, notably with fem-folksters The Poozies.
In her time Sally has supported (amongst many others) Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Jools Holland and Sir Tom himself, worked with inspirational musicians such as averick double bass genius Danny Thompson, country folk-rock guitarist Jerry Donahue, the mercurial
accordionist Karen Tweed and legendary drummer Dave Mattocks. Sally is fresh from a Journey across the States with long-time collaborator Vicki Genfan, writing and recording 'in the wild' at some of America's most remote and windswept places.

Sally is still working on the follow up to her 2017 solo album 'Ghost Girl' and some of these songs are already in her live solo set !

“You have the most beautiful voice that has ever been on this show.” Sir Tom Jones on
The Voice UK

Keith, who cites Paul Kossoff and James Taylor as guitar-playing inspirations, was playing
hookie from school at 14 to tour with rock bands. In his 20s he mastered the pedal steel guitar, mandolin, piano and banjo to continue his musical education with country rock outfits.
Keith joined Sally's band in the 90s, playing on several highly acclaimed albums. Session work in early 2000s led to work with Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash with whom he
remained until 2008 when he accepted an offer to join Talon. Playing the songs of the Eagles, Keith is currently enjoying his 15 th year with the award winning tribute band.

that not too many singers can master” Maverick Magazine

A John Fairhurst show is a true testimony of his versatility, armed simply with his trademark resonator or supported by the flair of Toby’s percussion, his music takes the audience on a musical voyage of spell binding improvisations drawing freely from a rich tapestry of influences that span from the Mississippi to the Ganges and all that is worthy in between. Fronted by their eponymous songwriter, the duo draw freely from rock, blues and world music, with a penchant for slide guitar and through his distinctive deep growling voice, the songs, delivered in pure raconteur style, narrate the hardships of a life on the road and the bleakness of our times.

In July 2017, John signed an new publishing deal with successful independent publishers Wipe Out
Music, helping him garner much wider international interest. Acoustic Guitar Magazine USA recently hailed Fairhurst as one of the top three Resonator guitar players worldwide - the only European on the list. A new album is currently in production; a real melting pot of diverse musical influences and
styles. He will again be working with his long term go-to producers Alex Beitzke and producer Bradley Spence (Radiohead, Prince, Florence and the Machine, Stereophonics, Iron Maiden, The Strypes, Kasabian). The Doctors of Madness are the great outsiders of rock history. They are the missing link between Prog-rock and Punk Rock. In the words of Def Leppard’s frontman Joe Elliot, they were “Mosntrously brilliant”.
The band had been together for three and a half years and had a loyal, committed following when they decided to call it a day. They were finally floored by the killer punch of punk rock, which, like a raw, swaggering, bare-knuckle fighter, saw off many established bands in the period between 1976 and 1978. The fact that the Doctors of Madness were one of the few British bands who could credibly have claimed to have been ‘proto-punk’, with their frantic delivery, their preoccupation with urban neurosis and systems of control, their appetite for fast drugs and their exotic stage names, was not enough to earn them a reprieve. Nor was the fact that their fans included The Damned, The Skids, The Adverts, Simple Minds, Julian Cope and Spiritualized. Even the fact that they gave The Sex Pistols their first out-of-London gig didn’t save them from the punk juggernaut, which flattened everything in its path.

Jones has released nine albums, and performed in twenty-three countries and four continents. In 2015/2016, JW played over 100 high-energy shows per year, including being invited five times to perform alongside Buddy Guy, and twice with Woodstock legends, Canned Heat.

Last year, George Thorogood & The Destroyers’ management specifically requested Jones to open several of their tour dates including standing ovations at Massey Hall and Ottawa’s National Arts Centre.

JW’s latest release ‘High Temperature’ was named the Hot Shot Debut on the Billboard Top 10. From the liner notes: “Acclaimed Nashville producer Colin Linden takes Jones into new territory with warm, analog-driven tones, and a wide-range of material. His evolution as a musician and vocalist shine through on this record like never before. Real songs, real playing by real people, and JW is the real deal.” – Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones)
