A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Case Hardin
£10.00adv £10.00door
plus Paul McClure
Doors 8:00pm
Case Hardin have a fair claim to being the UK's best Americana outfit. In Pete Gow they have an outstanding songwriter who gets better with every album. Jim Maving, who also plays with Mick Ralphs, is a mean guitarist and Tim Emery and Andy Bastow are a rhythm section to be reckoned with. The band can rock like demons or dial it right back if necessary. Five star reviews follow them wherever they go and this will be a night to remember.

"Songs of broken dreams to match anyone in Nashville" - Q

Support comes from Paul McClure aka the Rutland Troubadour, whose live sets are a delightful mix of fine songs, dry wit and plain old-fashioned entertainment.

Stereosonics
£8.00
Doors 8:00pm
In 1999 the group began as a covers band playing a varied repertoire of current and classic anthems. The set included several Stereophonics tracks and it soon became apparent that Shane had the same vocal range and a similar voice to Kelly Jones. So in the summer of 2000 they decided to venture into the world of tribute bands and Replicaphonics were born!

They mastered the large catalogue of Stereophonics songs and began to perform live on a regular basis, even playing a fantastic gig at the Working Man's Club in Cwmaman, Wales; where the Stereophonics played their first ever live show, due to it being Kelly, Richard and Stuart's home town! They had the great pleasure of being joined onstage by Stuart Cable Stereophonics former drummer - which was a personal highlight for the band. They received many compliments that evening regarding the performance, even being told that Shane sounds like Kelly by Mrs Jones herself! They continued to perform over the years and became renowned for providing great entertainment that could not be rivalled unless you had an audience with the band themselves.

The Besnard Lakes
£10.00adv £12.00door
plus Mountaintop Junkshop and The Kirkland Turn
Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
The story of The Besnard Lakes begins at Besnard Lake: a spectacular yet secluded water feature in rural Saskatchewan which the Montreal group’s husband and wife core, Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas, visit each summer for inspiration and escape. This year the couple’s campsite was surrounded for a worrying few days by forest flames, a literal ring of fire which informed the devil-may-care spirit of their exuberant fifth album.

“Besnard Lake is usually the place where we get the germination of ideas,” explains Jace. “We set up a small recording rig in the trailer we have up there .This time there were also helicopters with giant water tanks flying over us while we were fishing on the lake!”

Armed with demos and memories from their trip, the pair returned to the city and entered Breakglass Studios. Unique among their furrowed brow peers, The Besnard Lakes are unafraid to marry textured, questing headphone sonics to the honeyed pleasure of radio hits past: the rapture of My Bloody Valentine entwined with the romance of Fleetwood Mac. Imagine dreamy Beach House riding Led Zeppelin dynamics, with unabashedly androgynous vocal harmonies. This melodic yet mountainous soundworld was sculpted at Breakglass, their own modest Paisley Park.

Doors 8:00pm
Exciting, up-coming Leicester multi-genre three-piece, Kafkadiva, released their new album ‘Dysfunctionormal’ in September 2018 and have chosen The Musician as the perfect venue to perform the album live for the first time!

This experienced trio of local musicians, namely Louise Wilson (guitars, lead vocals), Steve Chilton (bass) and Tony Norris (drums), have already made a name for themselves since coming together in 2016, organically growing a loyal fan-following who are drawn to their relatable - and often wry - lyrics, and diverse musical sound and style.

‘Dysfunctionormal’ is the second album from Kafkadiva and follows the well-received debut release, ‘Big Toes and Fingers’. The new all original twelve-track LP features the deliciously bluesy, riff-based title track, along with the radio-friendly and melodic ballad, ‘How Long’, and the deeply emotive ‘Catch Me’. As is the case with the album, Kafkadiva’s live set will ensure a journey through many different genres whilst remaining recognisably Kafkadiva.

As Louise would say, “Our sound is always led by wherever the song takes us. Why be ‘samey’ when you can be different?”

Come along and find out for yourselves!

IT'S ANNIVERSARY PARTY TIME!!

Annie will be joined by a variety of musicians who have performed with her on this night of celebrations, looking back over the last 20 years culminating into a collection of new work for an album that will be released at the end of the year.

She has always carried the torch for original powerful songs that have taken her and her band of musicians across the country and as far as the west coast of America and Texas. Although hard to categorize, she has often been likened to Bette Midler and Stevie Nicks and a whole load of other artists in between. She totally connects with her audience where emotions are explored and are scooped up into the story telling journey. With each song rarely ever being the same, Colin Granger who writes solely for Annie has been likened to Richard Thompson.

Fresh from the Green Man festival we welcome another folk traditionalist in the loosest sense of the term, Joan Shelley is constantly playing with and tweaking the blueprint of the genre she finds herself classified within. David Wyatt Band

plus Sophia Marshall Band
Doors 8:00pm
It is difficult to categorise David and his music, so think somewhere between Jeff Buckley-esque soaring, beautiful, intimately crafted songs, happy feel-good numbers harping back to the jazz era of the 1920s and pounding epics that will stick in your head forever.

His shows are always unique, especially when it comes to audience-band banter, but you are also served a visual treat, with a likeness somewhere between a Victorian gentleman and Captain Jack Sparrow.

It’s always wise when going to a David Wyatt gig to expect the unexpected, the only constant is high-quality entertainment and a memorable evening.

The joy in Jeffrey Lewis & Los Bolts’ latest album MANHATTAN were the details that Lewis brought out, the richness of his characters and situations made the songs brilliantly evocative. And he’s been doing that for so long it’s easy to forget what a gifted talent we have.

Since his early albums of the noughties like The Last Time I Did Acid I Went Insane and It’s the Ones Who’ve Cracked That the Light Shines Through, Lewis has created these worlds in vivid detail and brought us on the journey with him.
