A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Just Floyd
£8.00adv £10.00door
Doors 8:00pm
What could be said about this multi-platinum super-group that hasn't already been said? They are one of the most creative and enduring bands of all time.
Maidstone-based Just Floyd are a five piece outfit who pride themselves on capturing the sound and feel that is the magic of Pink Floyd.
They have a lightness and relaxed authenticity to their performance that is often commented on and commended - and feels closer to the original spirit of Pink Floyd than some of the robotic, studio performances typical of many tribute bands. There is an edge to this band's sound - live music at its best.
It's no surprise that the current line-up has been described as 'the most authentic live Pink Floyd tribute'.
Yet despite this accolade, the band do not proclaim to be an imitation - you'll see no stage theatrics, costumes or acting; and no 'original', unreliable 1970's equipment! Just Floyd is about the music of Pink Floyd.

Hurray for the Riff Raff will perform two EU festivals and a string of UK shows this summer. Led by Alynda Segarra, Hurray For The Riff Raff is a dynamic part of the progressive folk scene. With songs including ‘The Body Electric’ and ‘I Know It's Wrong (But That's Alright)’ from their latest LP ‘Small Town Heroes’, the band is speaking out on behalf of women, LGBTQ and civil rights-minded communities. They do this not only with their music, but also with activism campaigns like 'Women Are Powerful and Dangerous' that have contributed to the Third Wave Fund and The Radical Monarchs.

A Puerto Rican girl from the Bronx, Segarra has also begun the process of recording a new record with producer Paul Butler (Michael Kiwanuka, Devandra Banhart). "This next album is inspired by city life and all that it takes to survive: not just to eat and breathe but to survive culturally and spiritually," Segarra explained. "I have been very inspired by the 70's salsa scene of Fania Records and the Nuyorican poetry scene in the Lower East Side. I am excited about what is ahead and can't wait to share it." The album is currently scheduled for release early next year.

The Kirkland Turn

plus Mountaintop Junkshop and Luke Whittemore
Doors 8:00pm
The Kirkland Turn are fronted by husband and wife duo Daryl and Katie and supported by the angelic harmonies of Ash Francis and Chris Dezelu on Bass. Daryls rich and emotive voice and chiming guitar echoes the best of 60s British Pop but the Kirklands also have a unique drummer in Katie. Nothing about her drumming is conventional; She can do subtle but when in full flight drives the songs along like a juggernaut, her sticks flying so fast it appears someones turned on a strobe.

The Kirklands combination of lyrics and melody owes a lot to stage and film music, not the product-placement commercial pap of todays soundtracks, but that era of scores and songs that added to the story or bridged or moved it on every one of their songs is crying out for a movie of its own.

Special guest Ross Alexander
Doors 8:00pm
Charity fundraising gig for Sue Ryder - palliative Care charity featuring Irene Rae and her dashing band - special guest Ross Alexander.

Irene Rae mixes emotional song writing and a powerful yet delicate vocal with entertaining and funny stories about life, love and places her travels have taken her.

‘’Connecting with the audience through her music and creating a living room feel to her performance is where Irene Rae’s personality shines…a real pleasure to have witnessed.’’ EST Mag

Rae’s earliest musical memories stem from being a child, sitting in the backseat of her parents Cortina and listening to endless mix tapes of a variety of amazing music from Motown to The Beatles, Karen Carpenter to Bon Jovi, Barbra Streisand to Adam and the Ants… music, and more importantly singing was a family experience, one of love and support. Song-writing and playing guitar came a lot later into her life than most of her peers – she began to teach herself guitar at the age of 22 years old, listening to CDs and recreating the sound she heard.

Irene Rae has reached a wide and loyal fanbase throughout the UK which has seen her support artists that include Midge Ure, Hazel O'Connor, John Power, The Levellers (acoustic), The Jigantics and Declan Bennett. Her style and lyrics have been compared to Norah Jones, Natalie Merchant, Eddi Reader, Lisa Loeb and Bic Runga – whilst remaining uniquely her own.

In 2009 Rae released her first album ‘’End of Nothing, Beginning of Something’’, having produced three EPs previously. ''Hidden Secret'' EP, (Produced by Stuart Dixon, Platform Studio) released in 2015, is the latest studio offering from Irene Rae and draws on personal experiences and showcases a new reflective maturity in voice and lyrics.

Weaves
£7.00adv
plus Courtney Askey and Hula Girls
Though they were formed a little over 18 months ago Toronto’s Weaves have already established themselves as one of the most stridently individual acts to emerge from that city's fertile and multifaceted DIY music scene.

Led by the collaborative efforts of vocalist Jasmyn Burke and guitarist Morgan Waters, the band have built a devoted audience while capturing the attention of the international media with a brand of ebullient, art-damaged pop music as difficult to categorize as it is impossible to ignore.

Their self-titled EP, released on Buzz Records and produced by Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene, Super Furry Animals) and Leon Taheny (Owen Pallett, Fucked Up), garnered praise from Noisey, Rookie and Spin among others and earned them a “band to watch” tag from Rolling Stone, while their live performances saw them marked as one of the “must see” acts of CMJ 2014 by The Guardian and the NME.

The band have showed no signs of slowing down in 2015, releasing the one off single “Shithole” in January which Entertainment Weekly likened to “the Pixies at their proto-grunge best covering a Burger Records stoner-pop song,” and lining up a summer full of shows highlighted by their first European tour which will see them play Glastonbury as well as dates with Dan Deacon, Pissed Jean & Hinds, and an appearance at the inaugural edition of the Toronto mega-festival Way Home.

Ags Connolly is a traditional country singer-songwriter from Oxfordshire, England. Country is the simplest description, but Ags is a proud supporter of Dale Watson's 'Ameripolitan' movement, which supports new music with a roots influence, away from the modern incarnation of country that exists today.
"One of the best records you are likely to hear this year... so strong is Connolly's writing, dare I suggest that Ags Connolly is the closest we've ever come to an English Willie Nelson? Yes, he's really that good, and his voice is unique." - Duncan Warwick, Country Music People

UK singer-songwriter Little Lapin continues to wow audiences worldwide with her heartfelt songs and distinctive voice. Her debut album ‘Remember The Highs’, released in May 2015, captured the attention of many music blogs, magazines and radio DJs with Unsigned and Independent Music Magazine announcing it as “Best International Album of 2015”. The title track and opening track featured on BBC 6 Music (Tom Robinson's BBC Introducing

Toronto-based Chris Antonik was nominated for Best New Artist in 2011 at Canada's Maple Blues Awards after the release of his debut album, and has since become one of Canada’s fastest-rising blues artists. Blending innovative, thoughtful songwriting with stunning blues guitar work, some music critics have drawn comparisons to Eric Clapton. In its 2010 year-end review, Chris was named the "future of the blues" by Canada's Blues Underground Network.

In 2013, Chris’ sophomore album Better for You was hailed by critics as “a masterpiece,” “the best Canadian blues-rock album of 2013,” and “the sound of someone taking the blues to a new place.” The album spent three weeks at #1 on DAWG FM, attained significant airplay across Canada, the US and Europe, including on Sirius XM Bluesville, and was nominated for Best Blues Album by the German Record Critics’ Association. Oregon’s Cascade Blues Association called it “one of the finest releases from the Great White North in many a year.”

Worldwide hit with 'Pilot of The Airwave'
£10.00adv £12.00door
plus support
Charlie Dore returns with a rare solo show that spotlights personal favourites from her last five albums as well as unique takes on songs she has written for platinum-selling artists, some never before performed live in their original form.

The evening promises a multi-layered show as Charlie swaps between guitar, piano, ukulele and harmonium, her background in folk & roots music very much in evidence, as are her years of experience as an actor and improviser. The stories in between the songs are often dark and funny, the rapport with her audience always instant and relaxed.

Known for her often quietly subversive lyrics delivered via classic melodies, this multi-award-winner is one of only a handful of contemporary writers to have had success across so many different genres. Tina Turner, George Harrison, Celine Dion, Paul Carrack and Jimmy Nail have all covered Charlie’s songs.

Her own worldwide hit, Pilot of The Airwaves is still a staple of UK And US radio playlists… yet her contemporary songs still favour her more eclectic, acoustic roots, winning her two Ascap awards, an Ivor Novello nomination, both the Overall Grand and the Folk Prize from the International Acoustic Music Awards and in 2012 Best Album Lyrics from the Indy Acoustic Project for her album Cheapskate Lullabyes.

Skinny Molly was founded by guitarist/vocalist Mike Estes (formerly of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Blackfoot) and Nashville, TN studio drummer Kurt Pietro. Originally put together to do a one-off tour of Europe in 2004, Skinny Molly has, eleven years later, become one of the hardest working and popular rock bands out of the southern United States. The band boasts guitarist Jay Johnson (formerly of Blackfoot/Rossington Band), and Grand Ole Opry stalwart bassist Luke Bradshaw.

This lineup has toured relentlessly; their first jaunt found them crossing three continents in 30 days on the strength of their debut CD "No Good Deed". Constant gigging has established them as "The band from the South to see" across Europe as well as at home in the States.
