A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Nick Harper & The Wilderness Kids
£14.00adv £16.00door
plus Kevin Hewick
After leaving a streak of rip-roaring, celebratory shows in 2016, road-testing his back catalogue of 12 albums, Nick Harper & The Wilderness Kids (aka Port Erin) are back with a new album Lies! Lies! Lies! and UK tour for 2017.

Amidst a backdrop of flags being changed and mottos applied, ‘’350 million reasons why, written on the side of the bus’’, sees Nick and The Kids nailing their colours to the mast and ready to roll.

The album was recorded in Studio La Fabrique, France (Radiohead- Moon Shaped Pool, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds-Push the Sky Away) with the legendary producer Tchad Blake (The Black Keys, Pearl Jam, T-Bone, Peter Gabriel). Blake brings his masterful touch to the unceasingly creative cauldron of Nick, his songs and now, his band.

‘The Wilderness Kids’ met up with the renowned solo acoustic singer-songwriter at a record store day event, where they jammed on some of Nick’s tracks from his ‘Best of’ triple LP set ‘The Wilderness Years’. Nick immediately realised the potential, promptly picked up a baritone electric guitar and the pace hasn’t let up since. The exciting energy and chemistry between the 4 has had Nick’s fans in rapture and the combination of the much-loved songwriter added to the zest present in this new gang, made capturing the zeitgeist in the words and music of the new album inevitable. Lies! Lies! Lies! is an intelligent, yet exuberant album rooted very much in the now.

Fans can grab first copies of the upcoming album at the gigs on CD or LP from November 24th, in the commercial hubris of Black Friday. Initial pressings can be snatched up on the Lies! Lies! Lies! tour with a general UK release on December 1st.

Blackbeard's Tea Party ~ High Octane, Gutsy Folk Rock

Their bold and riotous modern folk rock is built for late nights and big stages. Hold on to your tricorn hats and be prepared to stamp your wooden legs – Blackbeard’s Tea Party are in town.

Sea-shanties will be given a bombastic rock edge, and folk instrumentals will become late-night floor-fillers when this raucous bunch of reprobates hit the stage. They have dirt under their fingernails and a twinkle in their eyes, and you can expect fantastic musicianship, playful choreography and an unstoppable urge to move your body.

Two drummers, electric guitars, fiddle, melodeon and 4-part harmonies combine to create music that is drenched in tradition, but filtered through a kaleidoscope of modern rock and pop.

The band believe a live show should be a spectacle for the eyes as well as the ears. Outlandish outfits, costume changes, DIY props, unhinged stage antics and chaotic choreography all add up to an engaging, high-octane show that inevitably leaves audiences cheering for more.

The band are currently back into the studio recording material for 'Coats Off' their first new album in 5 years. This will be released in the Autumn of 2024 & they will be out on tour from October to December performing this new material.

Josh Okeefe & Adam Bowler
£6.00adv £8.00door
"Josh Okeefe, a visible British singer/songwriter in Nashville for the past five years, has recently stepped into his own after finding a new voice and sound after immersing himself in music from the 50s and 60s.As the outlaw revival continues to grasp the ears and hearts of music fans everywhere, one can expect Okeefe’s presence to follow suit. He spent his early years touring across the UK in British rock bands and his affair with country music brought him to Nashville, TN.  Josh has since taken his place firmly as one-to-watch, and now we long to see him break through to fans and audiences of Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton to Mumford And Sons and Hozier. That is not to say fans of ballsy rock-n-roll won’t be interested too – just ask Audley Freed from ‘The Black Crowes or Dave Row the bass player from Johnny Cash’s band their thoughts on Josh. In fact, they make noteworthy contributions throughout his latest recordings".

"Support comes from Adam Bowler a Leicester UK based singer / songwriter, offering smooth vocals with songs of tangled up love felt lyrics and melodies".

The Burning Hell
£9.00adv £10.00door general admission
The Burning Hell is the alter-ego of Canadian songwriter Mathias Kom, and the band has been on the road in one form or another since 2007, playing everywhere from festivals like Glastonbury and Dawson City to bars, living rooms, abandoned bunkers, and a mental asylum in rural France. Musically, The Burning Hell runs the gamut from introspective folk to hyperactive rock and roll, and so the band can adapt to its surroundings like a karma of anthropomorphic chameleons, taking the audience on a supermarket-cart ride through hooky, upbeat pop songs, dark ballads about pet euthanasia, and anthems for barbarians, economic conferences, and love.
"Canada's The Burning Hell write the kind of literate, funny, catchy songs that makes you want to learn all the words and shout them passionately back in their faces."

One of the UK's finest Rock 'n' Roll Bands. Every time vocalist Spike self-confidently informs his enthusiastic audience 'We're the Quireboys ... and this is Rock 'n' Roll", everyone present has a pretty clear idea where this musical journey is about to lead. For fifteen years, the Quireboys have been synonymous with hand-made rock music, spiced with edgy riffs, driving rhythms and their frontman's unique voice.

With a sound that harks back to the 70's heyday of The Faces, Stones, Slade and Mott The Hoople, the band have always remained true to their roots from the start. The boys' mission is simply to keep the spirit of good time rock ‘n’ roll alive and kicking into the 21st century.

Tonight sees a return to the Musician for a special intimate unplugged show and those that have seen the band in this format before will know that although the instruments may not be electric, the same certainly cannot be said of the performance. This is one not to miss.

Formed on Canvey Island in Essex in the early 1970s Dr. Feelgood remains one of the most popular and exciting live rhythm and blues acts in the world. The raw and uncompromising style of their performance resulted in the album Stupidity that immediately went to the number one position in the U.K. charts.

Dr. Feelgood have also enjoyed global success with a string of hit singles including Roxette, Back in the Night, Milk and Alcohol, Down at the Doctors, She Does it Right, Going Back Home and See You Later Alligator - which gave the group their first gold record.

The last album to feature Lee Brilleaux - Down at the Doctors, was recorded live at the Dr. Feelgood Music Bar on Canvey Island, (now the site of the Oysterfleet Hotel) just two months before he died. The current line up features the rhythm section Kevin Morris on drums and Phil Mitchell on bass, approaching 27 years in the band and Steve Walwyn on guitar who has been with the band for 20 years. Vocalist Robert Kane (formerly of the Animals) is the most recent addition – joining in 1999.

In 2000 EMI records released Chess Masters, Dr. Feelgood’s tribute to the Chess Label, home to many of the finest blues artists of the 20th century and the first album to feature Robert on vocals and harmonica.

Recent releases include a DVD - Live in London and CD Repeat Prescription - a collection of some of the bands most enduring songs but with a fresh approach.

Julien Temple’s film Oil City Confidential released on 2nd February 2010 tells the story of the bands formative years featuring the Wilko Johnson era.

Doors 7:30pm - 11:30pm
“You won't hear another band like this anywhere between now and the the end of the millenium. The Lovely Eggs are just brilliant!”- Huw Stephens, Radio One

“They have the off the wall look that is perfect pop and the cutting stripped down dynamic of a cool art crew in love with underground rock n roll”- John Robb

“This my friends is fucking brilliant. it’s grunge – but not as you know it”- Everett True

The Lovely Eggs are an underground punk rock duo from northern England.

They have a fierce punk rock ethos that music should have no rules.

For Holly and David being in a band is a way of life. True to this, they live the way they play. Fiercely, constantly in search of the good times.

With observational and often surreal lyrics about life The Lovely Eggs have a powerful stripped down sound: one vintage guitar amp, one Big Muff distortion pedal, a guitar and a drum kit.

With releases in the UK, Europe, USA and Japan, The Lovely Eggs have played hundreds of gigs around the UK, USA and Europe supporting the likes of Half Japanese, Shonen Knife, The Slits, Young Marble Giants, The Television Personalities and Art Brut as well as a two month tour of America and a string of dates at SXSW in Austin, Texas.

The Lovely Eggs have recorded sessions for BBC Radio One, BBC 6 Music and XFM as well as being played by a host of UK DJs including Radio One's Huw Stephens and Rob da Bank and 6 Music's Marc Riley, Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson, Gideon Coe, Chris Hawkins, Tom Ravenscroft and XFM's John Kennedy.

Holly (guitar/vocs) and David (drums/vocs) have also worked with comedian Graham Fellows (aka John Shuttleworth) as well as Jad Fair from the seminal Texas band Half Japanese. Their songs appear in Canadian film Molly Maxwell and have been sampled by Zane Lowe for Scroobius Pip. The pair also feature on a Radio 4 Richard Brautigan documentary, presented and in discussion with Jarvis Cocker contemplating the influence of the American surreal author on their music.

They have produced four albums.

The Lovely Eggs have become well known for their live performances.

2015 saw The Lovely Eggs return with their fourth self-produced and self-recorded album 'This is Our Nowhere': a title which sums up their celebration and love of a scene which doesn’t exist in the eyes of the manufactured mainstream. Ironically the record received 8/10 in the NME.

The second single to be released from 'This is Our Nowhere' 'Goofin' Around in Lancashire' was released in November 2016 on ltd edition 7" "fried egg" vinyl. With an accompanying video by Casey Raymond, again it sold out immediately and gained much support from BBC 6 Music, with 6 Music's Marc Riley declaring it one of his top tracks of 2015.

The Silver Threetles are more than a tribute to The Beatles, they are an in depth appreciation of Beatles music. A homage. The Silver Threetles came out of the desire to see The Beatles perform again. How would The Beatles deliver those songs after all this time?

There's millions of Beatles tributes, dressing up and recreating the records. The Silver Threetles decided that they wanted to focus solely on the music, noodling with the songs until they felt new and different.

"The challenge is to keep the essence of the song, whilst giving them a playful fresh coat of paint."

The Silver Threetles have created a unique series of shows that give the audience a breathtaking Beatles experience, paying tribute to music, but also adding a huge amount of energy to the perfoermcance. You can expect more than just a Beatles tribute band. This is an event.

Diesel Park West are for many people the most enigmatic band from the late eighties still performing today. Back in those Thatcherite days the psychedelic guitar ground they occupied was often dismissed as a mere throwback to the mid-sixties with only an enlightened minority realising its real musical significance. The beating heart of rock ‘n’ roll is now far more aware of the Diesels' sound and maybe that’s why any live performance by the band is considered an event worth seeing. Drawing upon eight albums worth of material and the hippest cover versions imaginable, Diesel Park West continue to prove beyond a doubt that they really are the torchbearers for an entire genre.
