A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Dan Baird & Homemade Sin + Drivin' N Cryin' + 68-75
£20.00
Doors 7:00pm
You may remember Dan, he was the lead singer with '80's roots superstars The Georgia Satellites and the composer of "Keep Your Hands To Yourself". Every night in America, it is estimated that at least eight bands will be covering that number. Not bad for a song that celebrates it's thirtieth birthday this year.

Joining Dan is a fellow ex-Satellite, drummer Mauro Magellan and founder member of Americana Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement winners Jason And The Scorchers, guitarist Warner E. Hodges. The line-up is completed by Micke Nilsson on bass.

Rolling Stone Magazine says of Drivin' N Cryin' (also featuring Warner on guitar): "Crunching hard rock is the drivin' part, brittle countryish balladry the cryin', with the two linked by a heavy dose of Led Zeppelinphilia. If Paul Westerberg had grown up worshipping Angus Young instead of Alex Chilton, the Replacements might have sounded something like this Atlanta Band."

Mixing Southern Soul swagger with British grit and recapturing the vibrant energy of that (1968-1975) era with Physical Graffiti-era raucous rock. 68-75 offer straight ahead rock, laced with soulful, emotionally raw vocals. The sound of this Atlanta, GA based quartet is reminiscent of the music of Free, Terry Reid, Humble Pie, the Faces and Stone The Crows.

Glenn Tilbrook
SHOW SOLD OUT
£18.00adv £20.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Following the release of his solo album ‘Happy Ending’ in 2014, Glenn embarked on the critically acclaimed ‘At Odds Couple’ UK and US acoustic tours with long-time collaborator Chris Difford. In 2015 Glenn and his Squeeze bandmates wrote, recorded and released their first album of new material in eighteen years - which was written for the BBC drama of the same name, inspired by the memoirs of friend Danny Baker. It was a glorious musical return, ‘Cradle To The Grave’ was met with rave reviews and entered the UK Official Album Chart at number 12. The band embarked on a sold–out tour across the UK, including a packed out date at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall.

Anyone who has witnessed Glenn on the live stage can attest to the properness of his doings, as it were. Armed with ready wit, raucous vibes and a shed load of grin-inducing great songs, there are few musicians able to connect with their audience on such an immediate and warm level. The ever burgeoning festival circuit is frequently enriched by Tilbrook the troubadour, whether he be leafing through his own plentiful back pages or dashing off impromptu audience requests ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Tony Orlando & Dawn, and all points in-between.
This solo tour will be promoting awareness and donations for The Trussell Trust, the charity that supports a network of foodbanks around the UK. At all venues there will be food drop points and collection boxes, and Glenn will also be donating all profits from his merchandise, including an exclusive 4 track EP, to the organisation.

Glenn says “it is shameful that in the 21st century there are people that can’t afford to put food on the table.. Anyone, from any walk of life, can fall upon dire times, and I hope that by doing this tour it will remind people that there is a very real need. Most of us can do something to help - be it giving some food or a little money – and I hope people coming to the shows are inspired to donate.”

Food donated at each venue will be collected and distributed to the nearest Trussell Trust foodbank.

John Otway
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Rock veteran Otway dubbed himself "rock'n'roll's greatest failure" after many unsuccessful attempts to produce a second hit single to follow his 1977 classic (Cor Baby, That's) Really Free with Wild Willy Barrett.

However, a mere quarter century later, he was back on Top of The Pops with the wonderful disco pastiche, ‘Bunsen Burner’ and back in the charts as a birthday present from his adoring and patient fans.

And, more recently, his "Beware Of The Flowers Cause I'm Sure They're Going To Get You Yeah" voted the seventh greatest lyric of all time in a BBC poll.

As ever, Otway attacks his favourite set list with gusto, leaving plenty of room for anarchy, fun and acrobatics that are his trademark.

RavenEye
£10.00adv £12.00door
Power-rock trio RavenEye was formed by multi-award winning guitarist/singer Oli Brown along with stunning bassist Aaron Spiers. Having already toured Spain, France and Italy supporting guitar legend Joe Satriani in 2014, RavenEye has been slamming audiences with their signature heavy riffs and incendiary live show. Whether it be straddling a bass drum high into the night or jumping into a raucous crowd, RavenEye is a high-energy rock act not to be missed.

Like the beginning of a good joke, the two Englishmen and an Australian have all travelled different paths up until the bands formation this year. Oli Brown has spent 10 years touring the world under his own name and in that time released 4 albums and has established himself as one of the most formidable guitarists/front men in the UK scene. Kev Hickman has also seen his fair share of international touring, and with an unforgettable stage presence he has developed an intense, hi-octane performance. Aaron Spiers tore into the UK in 2012 and since then has established himself as a force to be reckoned with on stage, he’s also released several solo albums and written scores for orchestras in Australia. After meeting and creating music together, they all knew that this would be their musical future, here begins RavenEye.

Chris Barron (Spin Doctors) + Lach
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Chris Barron is best known as the lead singer of the band Spin Doctors. What you maybe didn't know is that long before he was that goofy guy in the hat on MTV, he was an even goofier kid with an acoustic guitar. Chris plays nifty chords on an old Gibson to masterfully crafted songs that are poignant yet wistful and funny, all the while singing in a manner that's sweet and somewhat different from what you would expect if you only knew his hits, "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" and "Two Princes". Live, his stage patter is almost as entertaining as his singing. A powerful story teller, at once hilarious and thought provoking, Chris sets up his songs with anecdotes from a life on the road, from opening for and encountering legends like the Rolling Stones to Polar expeditions. He says, "I don't really think about what I'm going to say beforehand. I just say stuff and if it goes over well, I say more stuff like that later." A founding member of a band that's loved by millions of people the round world over, Chris' solo shows have all the lyric poetry and singing virtuosity that Spin Doctors fans appreciate along with a range of expression and songwriting.

BBC Radio 4's The Lach Chronicles was a Radio Pick Hit of The Week in: The Times, The Observer, The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Daily Mail and Radio Times!

"5 Stars! Quirky and Quixotic!"-The Scotland Herald

"Lach is a face-ache funny, beat-punk-unplugged joy and likely to send you home with several favourite new songs"- The Guardian UK

"Lach is incredibly bright, influential, funny and poetic. He's become part of New York's folklore" - Suzanne Vega

“Lach is the mastermind of Antifolk, like a Lower East Side rendezvous of Bob Dylan and Patti Smith. Like black snow, stalled subway cars and random violence, Lach is a Manhattan institution.”- NY Times

“Lach is so what the East Village used to be all about. He's a gruff?and-tough punk turned poet with a heart o'gold singing jangly, funny, pop?punk songs.”-TimeoutNY

The ever-popular award winning ‘Dark Side Of The Wall’ return once again to present an evening of classic Pink Floyd music in their own inimitable style.

One of those is the band’s long-serving, and Leicester-based, bass player Steve Chilton, says, “I always think that one of our great selling points is the fact that we love what we do. Live gigs should always be about that band and audience interaction. Pink Floyd’s music and persona is often perceived as quite serious but whilst we perform their music with the love and respect it deserves, we always bring our own personalities to the stage. This is definitely no ‘look-a-like’ tribute band and we’re proud of that. Who’d want to look like Pink Floyd anyway?”

In well over 2 hours of reverent tribute to their heroes DSOTW perform music from all Pink Floyd’s classic albums and feature tracks such as Comfortably Numb, Money, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Another Brick In The Wall to name just a few. If you’ve seen Dark Side Of The Wall in concert before then you’ll know it’s a gig not to be missed as they bring their theatre show into the more intimate setting of the Musician.

"Over the course of what is now eight albums, there is not really an Alasdair Roberts release that can be regarded as particularly personal. The lyrically gifted, instrumentally dextrous Scot is adept at musing, using his uniquely anachronistic poetry, on ideology, history, society, community and even things like work and family. But any notion of confession has rarely made its way into his extraordinary oeuvre. His 'I' and the wonderful Roberts 'we' are pretty much consistently shadowy, abstract characters in often obscure narratives, whether he is singing his own or traditional songs" - The Quietus

The Bob Dylan Story is the new stunning and definitive tribute to a songwriting genius who spoke for a whole generation.

Enhanced by a top backing band, the show lovingly and authentically recreates the many songs that made Dylan the living legend he is today, the way we all remember hearing them.

The heady idealism of Blowing In The Wind and The Times They Are A Changin; the electric venom of Subterranean Homesick Blues and Like A Rolling Stone; timeless love songs like Lay Lady Lay and I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight; the mysticism of All Along The Watchtower or Mr Tambourine Man; the lyrical tour de force of Hurricane to the catchy simplicity of Knocking On Heaven’s Door - these and many more memorable songs, along with some of the stories behind them, are captured to perfection.

Experience the thrill and energy of a Dylan concert planted firmly in the 1960s, a time when anything seemed possible, in a show that will remind you what REAL nostalgia feels like, and have you digging out your old vinyl to sustain the pleasure just that little bit longer
