A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Live from Planet Eigg, The Pictish Trail (AKA Johnny Lynch) is here to entertain you with magnificent tunes, a full band and a selection of brightly coloured bobble hats.

Epitomising trawler beardie chic, The Pictish Trail has just released Future Echoes, the most confident, cohesive and pop-savvy collection of music he has written to date. His eloquent songs have seen him get mentioned in the same breath as his heroes Beck, The Beta Band and Hot Chip.

Every bit the showman, The Pictish Trail has a blazing live set that is positively awe-inspiring. He has been accompanied by everything from acoustic guitar to a full-on four-piece metal band to throbbing dance beats and samples, and often during the course of the same gig.

His band tonight features members of Tuff Love and The Phantom Band. Check out his Vic Galloway session - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p048gvq7

Formed among friends in 1974 The Enid invented a school of intelligent, powerful and romantic popular music which is unique to them. The Enid “school of art” for want of a better description, is free from constraints of template rock/pop where rhythm, harmony and melody are invariably dictated by the traditions, prejudices and limitations associated with style.
In the 80’s, The Enid got kicked off the Glastonbury CND festival when Godfrey pointed out that the then owners of EMI made parts for nuclear missiles. The band still holds the record for the most encores at Reading Festival which they have played five times.
Members Robert John Godfrey and Dave Storey put together a new band. Since then The Enid has had fantastic receptions in gigs all over the UK, in Europe and the in USA. In 2012, vocalist Joe Payne joined the band for the 13th studio album – INVICTA – which is now receiving wide acclaim including being voted into the Top Ten Guardian readers poll for best album and best track.
With new album Dust released in April, this is the bands first date in a series of club shows which is part of the first album In The Region Of The Summer Stars 40th year anniversary. The band can also boast that they are band of the year 2015 in Prog magazine and also singer Joe Payne topped the vocalist chart in the same magazine.

its an evening to celebreate the genius of the working classes in their struggle to survive and also a chance to look back on the advances they have made and also perhaps to view it in our current struggle with the powers that be who it seems would welcome a revival of The Good Old Days.

With his well known songs such as ‘Another Train’, ‘The Shepherds Song’, and ‘When We Sing Together’, he constantly tours. His latest CD ‘The Frappin’ and Ramblin’ Pete Morton’, with its innovative adventures of marrying talking blues style rap with traditional chorus, has received terrific views. Starting out as a busker on the streets of Europe, he has entertained all over the globe with his unique and involving style of song-writing and passionate vocal delivery. He sings from the heart, with songs that tell compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a very unique perspective. The folk tradition plays a big part in Pete’s style.

‘As a chronicler of the human condition and wry observer of history and the march of progress, Morton is up there with fellow Englishmen Richard Thompson and Chris Wood, and as a people watcher…he can get close to Ray Davis. He is that good.’ The Scottish Herald *****

Sporting a slam-bang rock 'n' roll band and a hard-core honky- tonk wail, Stacie Collins pushes the boundaries of rock, blues and country. A singer-songwriter and a bad-ass harmonica player in the style of Chicago Blues greats Little Walter and James Cotton, Collins has garnered a reputation for her high energy shows, diverse songwriting and unlike most chick-singers, they are not all about love and heartbreak.

Based in Nashville, TN, Stacie is a road warrior having performed countless shows in the USA and Europe over the past few years and has even spawned a Japanese Stacie Collins tribute band. In addition to touring, Collins, along with her writing partner, husband, band mate Al Collins (Jason & The Scorchers) have written, recorded and released five records on her own label.

Had her records been released twenty or thirty years ago, they would have sounded as natural on 70s FM radio alongside ZZ Top and The Rolling Stones as they do next to contemporary rockers like the Drive-By Truckers or Blackberry Smoke.

Stipe bring you all the top songs from these icons including “Losing My Religion”, and “Man on the Moon” and with all the atmosphere, attitude, emotion, and energy you’d expect. Stipe will provide the same cagey mix of attitude, poetry and idiosyncratic sound built around jangling guitars and hazy vocals of frontman Michael Stipe.

Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Amber Arcades is the moniker of Dutch-born musician Dutch artist (and human rights legal advocate) Annelotte de Graaf — aka Amber Arcades

De Graaf first started writing songs in 2010 while temporarily living in Philadelphia. Back in the Netherlands she put out a first EP in 2012 containing soft-voiced, melancholic folk ballads.

Wanting to develop her sound and mature from the safe bedroom folk environment, she got in touch with producer Ben Greenberg (Beach Fossils, The Men, Destruction Unit) to produce a collection of songs she had written over the years.

In May 2015, de Graaf flew out to New York to record the songs in the Strange Weather recording studio in Brooklyn, backed by a band consisting of members of Real Estate, Quilt and Kevin Morby.

The result is a record that is as dreamy and esoteric as it is gripping, presenting slightly off, floating pop melodies over a mixture of kraut-inspired drums, cutting guitars and fuzzed-out organs.

Leading up to the release of the full-length album in spring 2016 Amber Arcades is releasing the Patiently EP containing several stripped-down versions of album-tracks as well as some extra, lo-fi recordings.

Doors 8:00pm
She Drew The Gun, fronted by singer-songwriter Louisa Roach offer dreamy lyrically evocative psych-pop from the banks of the Mersey. They released their debut Album, Memories of the Future in April 2016, the record is the result of Louisa Roach meeting with producer James Skelly in 2015 and working with him at independent record label Skeleton Key Records. Taking the bare bones of the songs- poetic narrative lyrics set to haunting riffs and melodies, they built up the tracks, developing an electronic element into Roach’s sound. The result is a dark but dreamlike collection of stories from the songwriter’s life and imagination caught in a bubble of psych-tinged pop. Exploring more conventional subject matter like delicate and dysfunctional relationships, unrequited love and loss, but also veering outside the norm with Sci-Fi protest songs, or more subterranean subjects, like drugs, alcohol, addiction and inequality.

The line up has shape-shifted and evolved into a full band since its inception as a solo project in 2013. Sian Monaghan was first to join, and the band have played in a number of formations. They supported Fink on a month long UK and European tour in autumn 2015 as a three piece with Jack Turner on guitar, latest addition Jenni Kickhefer completes the line up on keys. As a four piece they have travelled the UK on a recent headline album tour, supported The Coral, and played the John Peel Stage at Glastonbury Festival after winning over the judges at the Emerging Talent Competition 2016. They have just announced another string of UK dates for the Autumn.

Louisa's underground roots lie in performing at open mic events and acoustic gigs, honing her skills along the way, she gained the attention of Radio 6Music last year when Steve Lamacq championed a first release, that led to an invitation to perform a BBC introducing live session at Maida Vale in 2015. BBC6 music continue to support the band, they made Memories of the Future ‘Album of the Day’ upon its release. The band and Album, without the backing of a major label, continue to win over fans with their lyrically evocative style coupled with meticulously layered psych-pop.

Covering the Merseybeat era with a passion and energy not seen since the 60s beat boom, the boys have built up a solid reputation both nationally and internationally for the best in beat. As Tony says, "The earthy, raw sound of that early sixties period is what made the music so exciting to listen to and, more importantly, feel. The way the guitars clanked and the bass boomed as the drums thinly clattered underneath a hoarse vocal, as it teetered at the top of its range, bellowing out Scouse-tinged, rough–hewn R&B and rock ‘n’ roll like their lives depended on it, which they probably did! THIS is the sound I love and the sound that The Shakers, bring back to the best of cellars – The Cavern Club". Recreating that authentic look and sound of the early 60s,

symphonic density and elaborate polyphonics as well
as extended improvised sections lead their audience

compositional approach seeks to combine all sorts of
different styles and traditions needed to serve the
initial concept of their works. Hence the arrangements
are carefully structured with complex rhythmical
patterns and establish a sound-scape that can hardly
