A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

John Otway
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Rock veteran Otway dubbed himself "rock'n'roll's greatest failure" after many unsuccessful attempts to produce a second hit single to follow his 1977 classic (Cor Baby, That's) Really Free with Wild Willy Barrett.

However, a mere quarter century later, he was back on Top of The Pops with the wonderful disco pastiche, ‘Bunsen Burner’ and back in the charts as a birthday present from his adoring and patient fans.

And, more recently, his "Beware Of The Flowers Cause I'm Sure They're Going To Get You Yeah" voted the seventh greatest lyric of all time in a BBC poll.

As ever, Otway attacks his favourite set list with gusto, leaving plenty of room for anarchy, fun and acrobatics that are his trademark.

"He's a cabaret act masquerading as a rock act. He is gleeful, anecdotal, funny and life-enhancing." -

The Bohicas are rock and roll painted in vivid primary colours. Hi def, loud, fast, shiny and above all fun. A barrage of killer hooks, razor blade riffs and choruses that slap you in the face, grab your hand and lead you onto the dance floor. All shot through with pulp imagery torn from the pages of a graphic novel.

The Bohicas are Dominic McGuinness, drummer BrendanHeaney, guitarist Dominic John and bassist Ady Acolatse. The Bohicas’ story began in East London where, as schoolmates, McGuinnnes, Heaney and John first came together over a love of The Beatles, The Kinks, Ray Charles and the new wave of guitar bands who emerged at the start of the century after the scrag ends of Britpop had finally limped off.

Recognising perfection when they hear it, Island records have revived their vintage Pink Label for the duo, home to John Martyn, Nick Drake and Fairport Convention.

With his consistent touring of The UK and with many tours of Europe as well as South African and Australian tours under his belt, Matt has expanded his fan base considerably in the last couple of years and has managed to make a big impact on a variety of different music scenes.

Stacie Collins

plus Dawson Smith & The Dissenters
Doors 8:00pm
Sporting a slam-bang rock 'n' roll band and a hard-core honky- tonk wail, Stacie Collins pushes the boundaries of rock, blues and country. A singer-songwriter and a bad-ass harmonica player in the style of Chicago Blues greats Little Walter and James Cotton, Collins has garnered a reputation for her high energy shows, diverse songwriting and unlike most chick-singers, they are not all about love and heartbreak.

Based in Nashville, TN, Stacie is a road warrior having performed countless shows in the USA and Europe over the past few years and has even spawned a Japanese Stacie Collins tribute band. In addition to touring, Collins, along with her writing partner, husband, band mate Al Collins (Jason & The Scorchers) have written, recorded and released five records on her own label.

Had her records been released twenty or thirty years ago, they would have sounded as natural on 70s FM radio alongside ZZ Top and The Rolling Stones as they do next to contemporary rockers like the Drive-By Truckers or Blackberry Smoke.

Girls Names
£8.00adv £10.00door
plus Courtney Askey
This Belfast band – formerly a trio, now expanded to a four-piece – won critical plaudits for their 2011 debut, Dead to Me, which offered a brooding take on Best Coast-style surfer-rock. It was bruised, but also full of pop hooks.
However, Dead to Me was dead to Girls Names as soon as they’d recorded it. They wanted to start again and try something new. And this time round, the brooding takes centre stage.
Post-punk riffs lumber out of the darkness, and reverb-soaked vocals echo through the mix. Pop hooks are replaced with bass-driven, hypnotic melodies.
All of this gives The New Life a ghostly, macabre air. It nods to The Birthday Party, Joy Division and Bauhaus, while also borrowing a dollop of Jesus and Mary Chain dreaminess. In terms of more recent comparisons, Girls Names now occupy a similar space to The Horrors.

Doors 8:00pm
When Ronnie Lane embarked on the last stage of his career - which had already included the Small Faces and The Faces - he wrote some of his strongest songs and recorded several remarkable albums with his own band, Slim Chance.

Slim Chance is still very much in action, and boasts a great line-up consisting of three original members, Steve Bingham, Charlie Hart and Steve Simpson, joined by three top class musicians: Brendan O’Neill on drums, Billy Nicholls (ex Who) acoustic guitar and vocals, and Bob Dylan’s favourite, the renowned Geraint Watkins on keys and vocals.

40 years on from when Ronnie was at the height of his creative powers, the band is enjoying playing together in the spirit that Ronnie championed so magnificently. As well as fine versions of songs such as ‘How Come’, ‘The Poacher’, ‘Ooh la la’ and ‘Debris’, the band is now performing songs from its latest album, ‘New Cross Road’, which is now available on the band’s own label, Fishpool Records.

All in all the band delivers a barnstorming show that ‘digs deep into the roots of rock ‘n’ roll’’, appeals to all ages, and has aptly been described as ‘balm for the soul and music from the heart’! Catch it while you can!

In over a quarter century of touring, multi-award winner Ian Siegal’s mission statement has barely changed: songs that are real, shows that resonate, vocals served raw. Today he is considered by many to be the most compelling British blues artiste since the sixties. Classic Rock tags Siegal “a national treasure” and MOJO magazine ranks him “the cleverest writer and most magnetic blues performer in the UK.” He has performed in some 50 countries and amassed a trophy haul that includes two UK Blues Awards, 10 British Blues Awards, four European Blues Awards, two Mojo Blues Albums of the Year and three US Blues Music Awards nominations.

They say you can’t sing the Blues until you’ve lived the life and when Siegal steps up to the mic, you can hear the slings and arrows. He commands the stage in a way few artists alive today can, with sweat, passion, humour, incendiary slide guitar and a soul-infused voice big enough to fell trees. Each year his influence spreads further, but what sticks most in Ian’s mind is his guest appearance at London’s Jazz Café with 92-year old Pinetop Perkins and other remaining members of Muddy Waters’ band. These legends of post-war Blues later spontaneously joined Ian on stage for what turned into a memorable hour-long festival set in Norway.
