A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Rooted in British songwriting traditions of the 60s/70s coffee house scene, Izzie Yardley tells stories woven into musically exciting tapestries, nodding to a childhood spent listening to classical, jazz, Nick Drake, Kate Bush. Live this becomes a performance that is bold, colourful and powerfully honest.

"The care with which the words are chosen are an indication of her strength as a writer...Izzie Yardley is very definitely at the top of her game." FATEA magazine.

"little vignettes of life with a delightfully Denny-esque voice... she effortlessly makes her guitar sound like a piano too. Brilliant stuff." Bristol 247

She is on tour to celebrate the release of her publicly-funded debut EP Imposter, released this June with Karousel Buried Treasure/AWAL. It was produced by Dom Monks (Big Thief, Billie Marten), featuring Ethan Johns on drums and Nick Pini on bass. The strength of the EP led to support from both Help Musicians and the PRS Women In Music fund; Izzie is currently recording her debut album.

Before recording Izzie spent a few years gigging and honing her skills. Recent shows include festivals like The Great Escape and Black Deer and support for Matt Deighton, Beans on Toast, Sam Brookes, Ida Mae. Award winning multi-instrumentalist Dave Bainbridge joins forces with Lord of The Dance vocalist and instrumentalist Sally Minnear to bring a spellbinding evening of music that will, in equal measure have you jigging in (or out of!) your seat or bring a tear to your eye. A compelling mix of powerful and ethereal vocal songs (including the occasional emotive Gaelic ballad) and instrumental tracks, the set will feature jigs, reels, slow airs, evolving soundscapes and virtuoso improvisation on keyboards, electric guitar, bouzouki and cowbell!

Dave and Sally first toured together as a duo in July 2015. Such were the incredibly positive reactions to the tour that they have continued work together whenever their busy schedules allow, bringing their magic to audiences far and wide. Their first release together ‘Live in the Studio’ received amazing reviews and audience reactions.

Dave is best known co-founder of pioneering Celtic folk/rock/progressive/ambient band IONA and more recently Lifesigns, Celestial Fire, DBA (with Geoff Downes of Yes), and Strawbs, and has worked with Jack Bruce, Troy Donockley, Buddy Guy, Gloria Gaynor, Mae McKenna, Moya Brennan,

vehicle for her own songs. Sally secured the featured vocalist role in Michael Flatley’s hugely successful dance spectacular ‘Lord of the Dance’ and is also lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in Dave’s band Celestial Fire as well as backing vocalist for Pendragon.

Special guest Tygermylk
Doors 8:00pm
Laura Reznek has never liked to talk about herself. If you listen closely to her music, however, you’ll hear murmurs of naked disclosure — fragments of grief, anger, and complicated joy riddled through her melodies. In her new micro EP Leap Year (Birthday Cake Records), Laura wrestles with time during which everything and nothing happens, and the betrayal of boredom in the midst of life-changing loss. Laura layers meticulous arrangements with found sounds, crafting plush sonic textures that occasionally bristle with something darker.

Laura’s musical practice is rooted in interdisciplinary collaboration and a stubborn DIY aesthetic. While her favourite venues she’s ever played include a laundromat, bell tower, and leaky boat, her music has also been heard on BBC Introducing, BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, CBC’s After Dark, charting on the NACC top 200, and in film and television including Netflix’s Tiny Pretty Things and Global’s Family Law. Laura’s last full-length album, Agrimony, received widespread critical acclaim.

Those Pretty Wrongs
£17.50adv

Doors 7:30pm
Luther Russell & Jody Stephens of Big Star.

*This is a seated show with all seats unreserved*

Having been a founding member of one of the most revered power pop bands of all time tends to be a footnote that follows you around. Yet Jody Stephens’ contribution to the pop canon goes well beyond his beginnings in Big Star, helping to refine alt-country with Golden Smog and shaping the Ardent Records legacy well into the current era.

Following the outpouring of love around the documentary, Big Star: Nothing Can Hurt Me, Jody reached out to his longtime friend, producer and songwriter Luther Russell to join him for some promotional appearances.

A comfortability on stage became a kinship in the studio and eventually led to two albums as Those Pretty Wrongs. The comfort between the duo is key to what makes Those Pretty Wrongs work.

Luther and Jody bounce ideas off of one another with the kind of natural symbiosis that all bands shoot to achieve. Heading into their third album, the band found themselves a new haven in the rising California outpost of Cosmic Americana, Roots, and Power Pop: Curation Records. Following the reissue of their two previous albums by the label in May, Holiday Camp finds Those Pretty Wrongs crafting a record that’s autumnal, searching for solace, and yet unsettled. The title is a nod to both wistful summers at bygone British institutions, the favored gig fodder for their ‘60s heroes, and the more sinister implications of Tommy’s Holiday Camp — communal, but with a cost.

Holiday Camp finds more than a few friends turning up to lace songs with their contributions. Recorded from their own home studios, string arrangements from Chris Stamey, moog from Wilco’s Patrick Sansone, and glockenspiel from Mitch Easter all bolster the record’s mercurial grace. The physical distance does little to dampen the sense of communal ease that holds tight at the album’s core.

With shades of home-grown Memphis power pop, nods to Apple Records alums, and an appeal that trickles down to fans of open-hearted pop from Emmit Rhodes to The Elephant 6, Those Pretty Wrongs draw the listener into an environment that’s familiar and fragrant.

Luther’s arrangements have a timeless temperance that wraps around the listener. Jody’s songwriting is as honest as ever. It’s a hand reaching out in the darkness, and a shoulder cry on. Jody and Luther’s harmonies have taken on a sublime alchemy. Like lost brothers found once more, they weave wonder into the pensive meditations on “This Painted Sky,” and the hopeful send-off of “The Way,”

With their full catalog in the steady hands of Curation, the band members find themselves poised to re-examine their past while excited to enter a new era with their most affecting album on the way.

John Hackett Band
£12.00adv £15.00door
plus Carrie Martin
Doors 7:30pm
The John Hackett Band is made up from four gents who are also artists in their own right.
John is probably the best known of the band, from his work with his brother, both on record and countless live appearances, extensive session work, and (of course) his solo output.
He’s mostly reconised for his exquisite flute work, though he’s a multi-instrumentalist, also playing guitars and keyboards.
As well as bringing both gentle and fiery electric guitar to the band’s sound, Nick is also a stellar classical guitar player and composer, with many albums to his name, performing around the country. He and John also perform together as a duo, and have a released couple of albums together.
Jeremy was the final piece that formed the band. He has brought bass, vocals and guitar to complete the sound, but is also a writer, both musically and dramatically – we perform some of his tunes on stage, and those lovely bits of prose that get posted
Finally, Duncan Parsons wears many hats, though in performance with the band it’s mainly drums and triangle (as in, he plays them, rather than wearing them..). He has a variety of album credits playing a variety of instruments, and releases his own material (some with video), including instrumental albums under the banner of ‘Music for Stairlifts’ – make of that what you will.
Carrie Martin is a true born and bred Yorkshire lass, born in Hull. She first picked up a guitar at the age of four and made her first public performance at the tender age of nine, playing at a school concert. A modest debut perhaps, but it whetted her appetite for more, and her teenage years were defined by music.

She played clubs alongside her father, who worked the circuit as a guitarist and vocalist, which gave her an invaluable grounding in terms of playing to an audience. In her teens she made a name for herself locally, with her songs played on local radio and performing live. By the end of her teens she changed tack, inspired by the Bangles, Transvision Vamp and Ann Wilson from Heart, dropping the guitar in favour of a ‘rock chick’ makeover and fronting bands as a singer. Her first band was named Foreign Affair, which may well be one of the most ‘eighties’ names for a band ever conceived!

Doors 7:30pm
Awarded “Best Metal Act” in 2017 by the Scottish Alternative Music Awards, Tiberius have been quickly establishing themselves as a popular alternative to what is expected from the metal genre. Writing tongue-in-cheek songs that shed light on global and personal struggles, the band have carved out a niche position for themselves which emphasizes the personalities of the men behind the music and has seen them support heavyweights such as The Contortionist and Twelve Foot Ninja, as well as securing a main stage slot at UK Tech Fest.

Beginning their musical venture with a style which incorporated the rhythmic and melodic motifs typical of the djent and tech metal genres, the musical direction of Tiberius has evolved since their eponymous debut EP in 2015 to reflect the ambition and maturity of five individuals who seek to continually challenge themselves (and each other) writing music that they love, about topics of which they are passionate. Their sound development has culminated with the debut album, A Peaceful Annihilation released in June 2020, which has quickly garnered numerous positive reviews and solidified Tiberius as a prog metal mainstay. Tiberius have various festival bookings in 2022, including a return to UK Tech Fest and their debut at the rapidly growing RADAR festival.
2023 has also been a busy year also, so expect a fine evening of progressive metal.
Supports come from Lost In Lavender Town, Phoenix Shire and Skeyth, all great additions to this progressive metal feast.
