A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

(and charity fundraiser for Dementia UK & Local Homeless Charities)

Dust & Debris, Leicestershire based Americana / Roots band, play an infectious mix of original songs and covers, taking in country, bluegrass and Cajun influences, with a little bit of jump jive. Look out for fiery electric fiddle, banjo, mandolin, electric / acoustic guitars and wailing harmonica, with three lead and harmony vocals.

We aim to entertain, says band leader Les. Our favourite quote from a festival spot - “What a great band to stumble across; heard them from the toilets and came straight in. Glad I caught them from the start - a must see and already planning to see again. Well done guys see you soon”

Blackballed ( Feat. Marshall from New Model Army)

Doors 7:30pm
2019 was destined to be another great year for Blackballed, with gigs and festivals already booked, and plans to record their 3rd studio album. Unfortunately in April due to personal reasons, Leon decided to leave the band. This left Marshall and Tom with the tough decision whether to call it a day or carry on. The guys hired a stand in drummer to honour the confirmed gigs. The gigs were a great success, so the search for the “New Guy” was on…

After months of auditions in stepped Alex Whitehead, a highly accomplished drummer with fresh ideas and a bold swagger.

The later part of 2019 was spent writing and moulding the new Blackballed into the power house trio everyone had come to know and love.

2020… The first 5 months of this year has rocked the music business, with all live performances cancelled… Blackballed however ploughed on, writing, recording and mixing their brand new album “Elephant in the room” which is due for release on 24th July 2020 on the German record label Metalville.

This will be the bands first release with a record company and the boys are looking to amazing times ahead.

Blackballed’s reputation as a band not to be missed grows as they continue to smash down the walls at every show, leaving a line of converted fans in their wake.

“Blackballed stunned all of us first timers with the energy of their performance…to make it entertaining – you need to be good. You need to be an expert before you can break the rules, and, happily Blackballed are expert musicians. ” B Side Music Magazine

Doors 7:30pm
Hailing from the streets of Sydney, Australia, The Rumjacks have been described as a mix between seminal bands the Clash and the Pogues. With their energetic live shows, they have since departed the Sydney pub scene and are regulars on the European circuit. 2019 saw them playing at Europe’s legendary festivals: Groez Rock, Wacken Open Air and HellFest as well as previously headlining Mighty Sounds and a main stage appearance at Poland’s massive Woodstock Festival 2019. They have also seen massive sold out club shows throughout all of France, Romania, Germany and many more.

March 12, 2021 saw The Rumjacks release their first album with new front man Mike Rivkees. The hotly anticipated, and subsequently; critically acclaimed ‘HESTIA’ has been a top shelf, tour de force addition to their already impressive musical catalogue. Since HESTIA’s release the album and singles ‘Sainted Millions’, ‘Light in my Shadow’ and title track ‘Hestia’ have garnered impressive numbers across all streaming platforms, YouTube, Mainstream Radio play across Europ; and charting in the top 50 of the German Official Music Charts. Hestia has once again cemented The Rumjacks as a stand out act in an established and crowded market/scene:

“Hestia is a stampeding, emotive, anthemic, beauty of an album. It’s the complete package?—?and even the Dropkick Murphys cannot claim to have made an album this good in several long years” -KERRANG!!

Project Blackbird

Doors 7:00pm
The UK-based Project Blackbird’s five core members are vocalist Ming Nagel (originally from the USA), guitarist Alan Roberts, multi-instrumentalist Jamie Varley, multi-instrumentalist Jon Read (former trumpet player for The Specials), and now drummer Eddie Dublin. This “extraordinary” band, as BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson has described them, offers an atmospheric, genre-fluid listening experience that draws equally upon intellect and emotion.
“Imagine a party at Ronnie Scott’s,” one fan suggests, “where Sade, Björk, Jeff Beck, and David Byrne meet Portishead and then go for a late night curry to exchange ideas…sublime”. This will be their first UK show following on from their tour in USA in March and April.

NME: 4* - “On their debut EP, the South Wales band begin to carve out a sound that's as distinctive as their uber-retro style”

Like a glitter bomb on the verge of explosion, CVC crashed into the often self-serious world of UK guitar music earlier this year in a storm of colour and sparkle. The six-piece – whose acronym translates to Church Village Collective, a nod to the rural South Wales town they were raised in – make gleefully retro rock that is low-slung and infectious, while wearing garishly patterned shirts you could find in the bargain bin at a vintage shop.

The band’s kooky visual identity made them initially stand out on the Cardiff gig circuit, a community where attitude is nearly as important as talent. Starting out as a jam band in 2019, CVC quickly wound up with a large local following that resulted in them selling out Clwb Ifor Bach – the Welsh capital’s premier independent venue – before they’d even released a project. NME

We're delighted to announce that CVC will be joining us on 25th August as part of @MusicVenueTrust and @TheNationalLotteryUK's #ReviveLive tour!

Tickets go on sale at 10am this Thursday - and you can bring a friend along for free by ordering a +1 and bringing a National Lottery ticket with you.

Stipe
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
R.E.M. are one of the world’s most enigmatic bands. With a string of peerless albums; one eye on the underground and one eye on the soaring chorus; we will never see their like again. From “The One I Love” through to “The End of the World” and more besides.
Stipe bring you all the top songs from these icons including “Losing My Religion”, and “Man on the Moon” and with all the atmosphere, attitude, emotion, and energy you’d expect. Stipe will provide the same cagey mix of attitude, poetry and idiosyncratic sound built around jangling guitars and hazy vocals of frontman Michael Stipe.
Whether it’s playing major festivals or appearing on the One Show, performing for Michael Stipe himself, Stipe are the definitive R.E.M. tribute – a complete band, and encyclopaedic knowledge of the back catalogue. They bring R.E.M. to life on stage – the contrasts and the magic; that direct connection to the music.
The boys from Athens’ legacy is in good hands.

Davey Dodds & Friends
£8.00adv £10.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Described by Fantasy Forest Festival as “The Master of Celtic rock'n'reel”, Davey Dodds fronts a startlingly good live band. The music is Celtic, psychedelic, Pagan and life-affirming, they will set your feet dancing!

Davey is a songwriter of some renown. His classic, 'The Magpie', was recorded by The Unthanks, used on The Detectorists on BBC2 and broadcast from The Proms in 2018. The same song was covered by David Gilmour in 2020.

A recent review described the band members as “Forces of nature”. Davey himself provides the lead vocals and plays electric and acoustic octave mandolins. Gillie Hotson flies her electric violin, Daniel Billing drives the music with his bass and David Clifford powers the band with his drums.

Davey has an interesting history. In 1994, his old band, Red Jasper headlined The European Symphonic Rock Festival. Shortly afterwards, SI Music, the Dutch record label the band was signed to, went bust. Davey went off to live on a different planet and worked as a fly-fishing guide in remote, wilderness locations. People and events prodded him back into playing and writing in 2017. Three albums later – he's having a blast! The adventure continues.....

Seven women playing New Industrial Metal. With commitment.

“Where’s the drums?” you ask… They are two women; two sets of sample pads; two Floor Toms, one Snare and 10 metric tonnes of attitude.

The rest is as you’d imagine: Keys, five string Bass, vicious Guitar and a mad Banshee screaming back at hell… killer harmonies, too.

All pretty standard, really.
