A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

There aren’t many bands that blur the lines between punk and grime as effectively as London duo Bob Vylan. Outspoken and engrossing in equal measures, their lyrics convey the angst and discrimination at the hand of a corrupt system while sonically it’s like “being pelted by a downpour of razor sharp arrows” (NME).

Bob Vylan are Bobby (vocals and production) and Bobbie (drums and spiritual guidance) who began to generate interest in 2019, supporting Gallows at their show at House of Vans, collaborating with Massive Attack alumni Tricky on his new album and a North American tour with hardcore rapper Nascar Aloe. But things really kicked off with the release of single ‘We Live Here’. The video went viral, earning rave reviews and, for many, it was their first encounter with a band that hit them like a tsunami.

Despite this the band struggled to get support for the EP, which they believe was due to ‘its social commentary and the topics it tackles’. It's Bandcamp only release prompted them to state: "We will not have our art – our art that in particular concerns itself with the fight against injustice, the fight against racism, the struggles of the disenfranchised, the struggles of minorities – we will not have that art devalued to the extent that it’s worth £0.004 a stream on a good day."

What Bob Vylan deliver 'We Live Here' is nothing short of essential listening. The sad truth is that nobody in the music industry, which likes to think of itself as inclusive, would touch the release with a barge pole. It’s not comfortable listening for white ears, but neither should it be. What it delivers is a view of Britain through black eyes, a soundtrack for what we see happening on the streets, filtered through the news, unfiltered through viral videos, or through black experiences and it demands that we listen to it.

Doors 7:30pm
Join us for an evening of crafted song and sound. A belated celebration of Melanie Pegge’s Album ‘Underworld Floods’.

Melanie is a Midlands songwriter and has been trundling around the Leicester music scene for many a year. Expect whispered dreams and memories hovering over intricate nylon classical guitar... songs that seek some beauty in the darkness.
Among Melanie’s influences are Nick Drake, Bach & Joanna Newsom, but she mainly sets out to do her own unique thing in her own way.

With support from Leicester’s very own Andy Griffiths. A magnificent songwriter and storyteller who forges timeless melodies with splendid chords.

Along with R Dyer who makes experimental pop that tightropes between lush multi-layered loops and improvised silliness about horses from space.
