A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Doors 7:30pm - 10:30pm
A rare opportunity to see and mark the 40th year reunion with founder members of radical folk band FIELDWORK, described as one of the most innovative folk bands of the 80/90s.
Fieldwork formed in 1984 with guitarist Dave Walker Patrick Gray fiddle, singer Tim Garland and percussionist William Johnson and began to explore the then vibrant and political Nottingham folk scene.

They developed a sound that spanned different cultures and backgrounds before the world/roots tag became fashionable. Whilst some of their material was self-penned, a good deal was drawn from traditional sources and adapted to suit Fieldwork’s contemporary sound and approach. Alongside guitar, fiddle, cittern and harmonium, they featured a battery of percussion lending an exotic touch to their fusion of English, Eastern European and African influences. Their live performances were ingenious and energetic, and won the band a cult status around the folk / roots scene of the late 80/90s.

Dave Bainbridge and Sally Minnear
£15.00adv £20.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Award winning multi-instrumentalist Dave Bainbridge joins forces with Lord of The Dance vocalist and instrumentalist Sally Minnear to bring a spellbinding evening of music that will, in equal measure have you jigging in (or out of!) your seat or bring a tear to your eye. A compelling mix of powerful and ethereal vocal songs (including the occasional emotive Gaelic ballad) and instrumental tracks, the set will feature jigs, reels, slow airs, evolving soundscapes and virtuoso improvisation on keyboards, electric guitar, bouzouki and cowbell!

Dave and Sally first toured together as a duo in July 2015. Such were the incredibly positive reactions to the tour that they have continued work together whenever their busy schedules allow, bringing their magic to audiences far and wide. Their first release together ‘Live in the Studio’ received amazing reviews and audience reactions.

Dave is best known co-founder of pioneering Celtic folk/rock/progressive/ambient band IONA and more recently Lifesigns, Celestial Fire, DBA (with Geoff Downes of Yes), and Strawbs, and has worked with Jack Bruce, Troy Donockley, Buddy Guy, Gloria Gaynor, Mae McKenna, Moya Brennan,
‘Snake’ Davis, Paul Jones, Phil Keaggy, Robert Fripp, Nick Beggs, Damian Wilson amongst many others.

Sally is the daughter of multi-instrumentalist Kerry Minnear of influential 70s prog band Gentle Giant and has been steeped in music throughout her life. She had a minor hit with the song “For You” aged just 18 before forming the acoustic duo ‘Creatures of Habit’ as a
vehicle for her own songs. Sally secured the featured vocalist role in Michael Flatley’s hugely successful dance spectacular ‘Lord of the Dance’ and is also lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist in Dave’s band Celestial Fire as well as backing vocalist for Pendragon.

Liz Simmons & Flynn Cohen
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Liz Simmons and Flynn Cohen (of Vermont, USA) are the founding couple of the award-winning American Roots & Folk band Low Lily. Between them they sing and play guitars and mandolin, creating a close duo vocal harmony and warm, cohesive instrumental blend cultivated from years of musical collaboration. From introspective original and traditional folk songs to impeccably plucked instrumentals on mandolin and guitar, Liz and Flynn put on a dynamic show of folk and roots music, influenced by the traditions of bluegrass, Americana, and Irish and English folk music.

Born in San Francisco to musician parents, Liz Simmons spent her early childhood traveling through the wilds of North America in a sky blue VW bus. Her parents were itinerant musicians, moving from California to Oregon to Alaska, and finally settling in New England. Inspired by her beginnings and after a brief foray into classical music, Liz found her way back to folk and roots music, founding the bands Annalivia and Low Lily with husband Flynn Cohen, as well as performing in a duo with Hannah Sanders, and as a backing vocalist for Livingston Taylor, Tom Chapin, Melanie, and others.

2021 saw the release of “Poets" (her first solo album in fifteen years) which has been lauded as "an ageless album" (Irish Music Magazine), “more than the sum of its considerable parts” (RNR Magazine) and "pure poetry indeed" (Goldmine Magazine). Cambridgeshire’s Ben Savage was at the mixing helm of “Poets”, and musical guests on the album include dobro phenom Andy Hall (The Infamous Stringdusters), pedal steel legend Pete Grant (The Grateful Dead), and cellist Natalie Haas, among many others.

Hailed as a “A versatile string virtuoso” (Dirty Linen Magazine), Ohio Native Flynn Cohen was drawn to the guitar after an injury left him unable to continue to pursue his passion for sports. When he was in his mid-teens, his aunt and uncle turned him onto the likes of Fairport Convention, Michael Hedges, Pentangle and the Bothy Band. Then the opportunity arose to study with John Renbourn at the Dartington College of Arts in Devon. Flynn spent three years at Dartington studying with Renbourn, as well as DADGAD pioneer Davy Graham. Flynn is also a traditional bluegrass picker on guitar and mandolin, having studied with flatpicking legend Scott Nygaard.

Flynn has toured the world with such luminaries as accordion champion John Whelan, Cathie Ryan, Ruth Moody, and many others, as well as Annalivia and Low Lily. Flynn has recorded five solo albums and has been featured on many others.

Alan Fletcher

plus Riely Catherall
Doors 7:30pm - 10:30pm
Alan Fletcher is a household name in the UK because of his portrayal of Dr Karl Kennedy in
the popular Australian drama Neighbours. Thousands of people also well remember Alan’s
touring band The Waiting Room that performed their unique rock n roll throughout the UK
for ten years.
Since 2019 Alan has focussed on mericana/Alt-Country music, working with Australian producers Lachlan Bryan and Damian Cafarella to write and record an EP and Album of
alternatively poignant and very funny songs about life, love, loss and beer! His album has
attracted widespread praise.
Engaging, delightful, wistful and original, The Point is classically crafted whilst contemporarily composed. It’s an album that covers a wide spectrum of emotions, that shakes and stirs with infectious honesty. – The Manc Review (mancreview.com)
It is as a live performer that Alan has made his mark highlighted by his two-week tour of the
UK in 2023.

Overall Alan Fletcher delivered a show that surprised in the best possible way. He had a fantastic vocal quality throughout as well as some solid guitar playing, but what elevated the evening for
me was the balance he struck between thoughtfulness and fun and the strength of his
connection with the crowd. It’s safe to say he’s going to appeal to music fans way beyond just those who know him from ‘Neighbours’, and personally I’m very intrigued to see where he’s going to take his music next. - Entertainment-focus.com – Laura Cooney
