A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Lifetime Achievement Award – BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2014

For more than 50 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures. His skill, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene, but also far beyond it.

Trailblazing musical partnerships with, amongst others, Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick and his award-winning wife (Norma Waterson) and daughter Eliza Carthy have resulted in more than 40 albums, but Martin has only recorded 10 solo albums, of which the much anticipated Waiting for Angels (Topic TSCD527) was the latest. Whether in the folk clubs (which he continues to champion), on the concert stage or making TV appearances (he was the subject of the acclaimed `Originals’ music documentary strand on BBC 2) – there are few roles that Martin Carthy hasn’t played.

He’s a ballad singer, a ground-breaking acoustic and electric-guitarist and an authoritative interpreter of newly composed material. He always prefers to follow an insatiable musical curiosity rather than cash in on his unrivalled position. Perhaps, most significant of all, are his settings of traditional songs with guitar, which have influenced a generation of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, on both sides of the Atlantic.

`Arguably the greatest English folk song performer, writer, collector and editor of them all’ Q Magazine

‘Carthy is a master of the ballad of substance, songs that tell stories, whether they are traditional, his own or from contemporary writers.’ The Telegraph

4 Canadian Folk Music Award nominations
Following the release of her acclaimed album ‘My Name is Suzie Ungerleider’, three-time Canadian Juno Award nominee Suzie Ungerleider has announced a string of 2022 UK shows in an extension to her North American tour. Beginning on 1st June at London’s The Water Rats, the tour marks Suzie’s first performances in the UK of her new music.

Sharing her excitement towards a much-anticipated return to UK audiences, Suzie said: “To come play live in the UK again and to share new songs, as well as old favourites, makes me very happy. I’ve always felt a special connection with the folks in the United Kingdom with their appreciation of dark humour, stories, and love of language.”

Met with critical acclaim and earning Suzie her third Juno Award nomination, ‘My Name is Suzie Ungerleider’ is the first album since the artist formerly known as Oh Susanna announced that she would now record and perform under her birth name.

“Thoughtful lyricism, the sound of a woman confident in her artistic path”
- The Arts Desk

Bursting with trademark evocative melodies and trenchant lyrics, it's the tenth solo studio album by the American-born, Canadian-raised artist revered for such landmark records as Johnstown, Sleepy Little Sailor and A Girl in Teen City. The decision to say “so long” to her long-time moniker Oh Susanna represents her recognition that the “exciting, dark, funny, charming” character that she thought was Oh Susanna was actually Suzie Ungerleider all along. “So here I am, leaving behind the trappings of a persona that gave me the courage to climb up onstage and reveal what is in my heart,” she reflects. “It once protected me, but I need to take it off so I can be all of who I am.”

This “extraordinary” band, as BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson has described them, offers an atmospheric, genre-fluid listening experience that draws equally upon intellect and emotion.
“Imagine a party at Ronnie Scott’s,” one fan suggests, “where Sade, Björk, Jeff Beck, and David Byrne meet Portishead and then go for a late night curry to exchange ideas…sublime”. This will be their first UK show following on from their tour in USA in March and April.

Celebrated Montreal rock’n’roll band The Damn Truth are pleased to announce they are heading back to the UK in July 2023.

The tour follows the recent release of The Damn Truth’s third studio album “Now or Nowhere” released by Spectra Musique/Sony Music and produced by legendary Grammy Award winning record producer, Bob Rock. “Produced by famed Metallica producer Bob Rock, This Is Who We Are Now is a powerful statement of musical intent from Montreal rockers The Damn Truth, with a chorus bigger than a bus and a guitar solo that absolutely soars.” – Classic Rock
The Damn Truth’s single, “This Is Who We Are Now” had ten weeks of airplay on Planet Rock and a spot play on BBC Radio 2’s Rock Show with Johnnie Walker. The single also won Tracks of the Week on Classic Rock’s Louder Sound.

The band have also been championed by the British music press with extensive magazine coverage in Classic Rock, Blues Matters, Guitarist, Powerplay, Guitar Techniques, Record Collector, Fireworks, Blues in Britain, Hard Rock Hell, MNPR and R’N’R Magazine.

The Damn Truth is comprised of Lee-La Baum (lead vocals, guitar), Tom Shemer (guitar), PY Letellier (bass) and Dave Traina (drums).

The Damn Truth have extensively toured Europe and North America, and opened tours for Z.Z. Top (and partied with Billy Gibbons in his pyjamas), the Sheepdogs, Styx, and Rival Sons. They sold out the legendary Whisky a Go-Go in Los Angeles, sold out the Corona Theatre in their hometown of Montreal, and had one of their videos featured on the official Janis Joplin Facebook page. It's a culmination of a lot of blood, sweat and tears that’s come fruition with “Now or Nowhere”.

“Amber Saqladi is a singer-songwriter from Leicestershire, UK, who has been building her career as a songwriter, music artist and live musician for the past five years. Her debut single 'Summer Rain' is a heartfelt narrative of a summer romance left in ambiguity, swaying between the bright sounds and storytelling of country music and the ethereal sound of dream-pop. It was released in September 2022, closely followed by her second single 'Save Yourself' — an energetic breakup anthem. Both songs received airtime and high praise from BBC Introducing East Midlands, with Summer Rain featuring as their 'Song of the Day' on three occasions. Her songwriting has always been strongly rooted within alternative-pop and country, and has recently begun venturing into rock: her highly-anticipated third single ‘Siren Song’ is set to release on the 14th of July. The song is a fun and powerful pop-punk sensation, centred around feminine empowerment and heartbreak-driven revenge.

Growing up with a vivid imagination and a strong love of poetry, Amber’s songs focus largely on translating human emotion into music through descriptive lyrics and storytelling. A large part of her artistry is based within empowerment; the vulnerability and honesty of her songwriting encourages her listeners to embrace their own truths and express themselves freely. She writes music "to act as a voice for those who feel without one". To date, she has completed the writing process of a solo-written album as well as countless other individual projects. She is beginning to collaborate with a multitude of notable industry professionals nationwide, including the resident producers of the iconic Metropolis Studios. Her own presence within the industry is beginning to grow exponentially, with her social media pages attracting a growing fanbase through hundreds of thousands of views and the recent attention of Taylor Swift - who commented on one of Amber’s music TikToks to let her know that she loved the performance.”
