A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Connor Selby (With Full Band)
Connor Selby is a rising British star in the traditions of Eric Clapton and Peter Green, who has already performed with his band at Wembley Stadium, at the age of 22, at the behest of The Who.
Recently voted the “Young Artist of the Year” in the 2020 UK Blues Awards, the young bandleader-guitarist-vocalist draws on influences as diverse as B.B. King, Ray Charles, Free and Nick Drake, creating a soulful blend of hard-hitting blues and emotional, introspective song writing, which, at times, evokes a modern take on the best of the British blues boom of the 1960’s.
Connor has recently recorded a self-titled album at Masterlink studios, due for release later this year, featuring 'Redtenbacher's Funkestra', a house band of world class musicians with a CV's to prove it (think Elton John, David Bowie, Annie Lennox, Jack Bruce etc). This release should further cement Connor's reputation as one of our brightest young talents; a talent who has already garnered invitations to tour with not only with legendary Bluesman John Mayall but also a UK stadium tour with the aforementioned The Who.

The Ashley Sherlock Band
Manchester-based blues rock trio with a blend of gritty blues & unique falsetto vocal melodies.

Ashley Sherlock is a Manchester-based singer/songwriter citing his inspirations as Jeff Buckley, The Marcus King Band, The Cadillac Three, Gary Clark Jr and Chris Stapleton. Working alongside producer Kenneth Nixon (of Framing Hanley fame) Ashley's material, recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, presents a modern outlook on the sounds of the deep south; combined with his fantastic vocal range and songwriting style.

After several years, and hundreds of gigs performed as a solo artist, Ashley Sherlock formed a blues rock trio. A fantastic blend of gritty blues, falsetto vocal melodies and a dynamic rhythm section creates a unique sound. Since then, the band have received nominations for the UK Blues Awards, toured with international artists and been featured on popular radio stations.

Ellie Gowers
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm - 11:00pm
Ellie Gowers has been making an impression wherever she lands. Her music embeds a fierce energy that echoes the 60’s folk revival scene and she is known to hold pride of place on stage with her strong and lucent vocals. Her songs are built from a childhood love of literature and traditional folk song, but also discuss the more modern narratives of the present day. These influences fuse together to create a sound that has been deemed unique and incomparable.

In the last two years, Ellie has released the EP From Here on Outand followed that with her latest single Against the Tide which earned her a TedX talk. Both of these were welcomed with a good reception from listeners. These songs have been toured widely, both in headline shows and support slots for critically acclaimed artists, up and down the UK.

After the unpredictable circumstances that 2020 brought with it, Ellie found herself making good use of her time, beginning to work on projects she had only ever thought about. Collaborations were done with friends new and old, songs were written, a festival was played, and she was also included in the line up of the Filkin’s Drift Ensemble, covering Arthur McBride.
Ellie enters 2021 with a brand new EP named Parting Breath, an ode to Robert Burns’ Auld Lang Syne, which will be released in March.

Kossoff - The Band Plays On
£20.00adv £25.00door
Renowned vocalist Terry Slesser has put together a fine ensemble of high-calibre musicians to pay tribute to the legendary guitarist Paul Kossoff(best known for one of the most memorable guitar solos of all time featured on Free’s classic hit All Right Now). Billed as ‘Kossoff - The Band Plays On’, this is not a covers band or 'tribute' act as Terry performed alongside Kossoff in post-Free outfit Back Street Crawler. This new series of dates will feature rarely-played highlights from the Back Street Crawler album Second Street alongside other numbers from Back Street Crawler’s back catalogue (and of course some choice Free tracks).
Frontman Terry Slesser sure knows how to captivate an audience. Aside from his amazing vocal ability (the reason Kossoff chose Terry to to front his band), he's got some seriously entertaining anecdotes in his armoury which are all delivered with style and panache. This is a revealing insight into songwriting, recording and life on (and off!) the road. Terry’s shared experiences of working, touring and living with Koss truly differentiate this show from being a mere tribute act. Guitarist John Buckton has the Kossoff sound down to an absolute tee and that's no huge surprise when you consider that Free drummer Simon Kirke has said:.. "If Free were to reform, John would be my first choice as guitarist."
Buckton, has captured the soul and rawness of Koss' playing.
Paul Kossoff had his own unique style and it lives on in John Bucktons' fretboard.
Also included in the line-up is powerhouse drummer Clive Edwards formerly of UFO, Wild Horses (alongside Thin Lizzy guitarist Brian Robertson and Rainbow bassist Jimmy Bain), Uli Jon Roth Band and the Pat Travers Band .
Dave Chapman (keyboards) and Rick Hunt (bass) complete the line up. Paul Kossoff was revered by music fans and fellow musicians alike and his personality shone through his performances. All of this is brought to life in a show of sheer quality which pays homage to the highly talented and much missed guitarist.

Straighten Out
£10.00adv £12.00door
Straighten Out are the premier Stranglers tribute band out there, with an extensive set-list that spans two solid hours as they re-create the 'early years' sound of The Stranglers, complete with a keyboard rig that is the same model as the original used by Dave Greenfield himself in the 1970s.

The growling bass sound and the quirky guitar riffs are all there to be heard as is the dual vocal 'attack' from the two frontmen a la Burnel-Cornwell as they rip through all the classics: 'Peaches', 'Hanging Around', 'No More Heroes', '5 Minutes', 'The Raven', 'Walk On By', 'Straighten Out', 'Down In The Sewer' and many more.

Straighten Out will take you on a nostalgia trip that transports you back to those raw, powerful, exhilarating times when The Stranglers emerged through the quagmire of mediocrity to produce some of the finest tunes ever written!
