A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

The Rabbitts
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Norwich based duo 'The Rabbitts’ are acoustic at heart but experimental in nature; they set out to avoid the well trodden path and instead define their own unique sound with creative harmonies, fingerstyle guitar arrangements, and epic mandolin solos.

In 2016 they wrote the song ’Avocado Ginger Tree’ and realised they had something special and unique to share. They temporarily moved to Canada later on that year, recordeding ‘Avocado Ginger Tree’ before moving into a rusty old van to save up for their debut album ‘Tall Pines & Tangled Vines’, released in 2018. In 2020 The Rabbitts followed up with their EP ‘Seeking Shade’, recorded entirely in a van whilst the couple were travelling around the UK and Ireland. The songs delved deeper into previously explored themes of love and the natural world, but with a psychedelic twist.

Since then The Rabbitts have been working with an impactful yet intricate rhythm section and in 2021 they released 7 singles. These went on to receive multiple plays across national radio as well as BBC folk shows across the UK. Their Spotify catalogue has now gathered over 300,000 streams and with a new album on the horizon they have big plans for 2023.

"Ethereal and understated" - Tom Robinson BBC Radio 6 Music

"The Rabbitts embrace a minimalist beauty, exemplifying their knack for a gorgeous vocal delivery and their myriad of instrumental techniques." - Jonathan Frahm, For Folk's Sake

Doors 8:00pm
The Dirt Road Band is the brainchild of guitar legend Steve Walwyn, mainly known as the longest serving guitar player in Dr Feelgood (32yrs). During this time he amassed a massive reputation as a bona fide blues hero in the UK, Europe and beyond. He says "I'd always liked the idea of the power trio - stripping everything back to the basics: guitar, bass & drums. To help him in this he has recruited the services of drummer Ted Duggan, professional since the 60's including stints with Badfinger and techno giants Banco de Gaia. "I'd worked with Ted before" Steve says, "I knew he would fit this gig perfectly" ...he certainly does.

Bass player Horace Panter is better known as a founding member of The Specials. Horace has "groove" printed on his DNA, holding it down comes as second nature. This then is Steve's dream team rhythm section that swings as hard as it rocks. "We're starting to develop that musical telepathy that makes a band more than the sum of its' parts. It's a thrilling thing and keeps the blues alive".

See you down the dirt road ....

Starsailor’s initial run of success saw both their Love is Here debut album and the 2003 follow-up Silence is Easy hit #2 on the UK charts as they raced to a total of 3 million sales. The band also enjoyed more than their fair share of prestigious gigs, supporting the likes of The Rolling Stones, The Police, The Killers, and U2.

This return was swiftly followed by the release of their biggest hits through Good Souls: The Greatest Hits which included two brand new tracks Give Up the Ghost and Hold On (released in September 2015 on Parlophone).

James along with his band, Starsailor, released their 5th studio album ‘All This Life’ in September 2017 (Cooking Vinyl), which charted at #23 in the UK album charts.

James now tours as a solo acoustic artist and this forthcoming set of dates promotes 'Coming Good', his brand new album.

Kossoff - The Band Plays On
£20.00adv £25.00door
Doors 7:30pm
Terry Slesser, one of the country’s finest rock and blues vocalists, performing in tribute to his bandmate and friend the late, great Paul Kossoff - one of the greatest rock blues guitarists of all time. Celebrating Paul Kossoff’s entire career, the show features songs from his early days in FREE (including rock classics ALL RIGHT NOW, WISHING WELL, FIRE AND WATER etc.) through to songs from BACK STREET CRAWLER, the band Kossoff formed alongside Terry Slesser. Terry Slesser remains both a star and a master craftsman. As Paul Kossoff’s close friend and vocalist of choice, he has every right to sing every song performed by this band. Terry has assembled a great team of musicians to willingly assist him in keeping alive the memory of Paul Kossoff.

The band also features: John ‘Rhino’ Edwards, bassist with the world-famous Status Quo, Judie Tzuke, Dexy’s and Peter Green. Drummer Clive Edwards, whose resumé includes UFO, Wild Horses, Uli Jon Roth, Pat Travers. Guitarist John Buckton is relatively unknown in comparison to his band mates, but was recently reviewed as "one of the very best guitarists in British rock blues today, with a style that’s tasteful and subtle, yet which wails with true blues aggression". SIMON KIRKE himself has already said that were FREE ever to reform, John would be his choice. This is no two-bit collection of raggle-taggle pub-rock wannabes playing cover versions. This an authentic supergroup, and to all intents and purposes a direct continuation of BACK STREET CRAWLER.

FAIR FREEDOM

Pete Morton is a folk singer and songwriter with a wealth of great songs and stage presence. His live shows are dynamic and thought provoking, while remaining approachable and fun loving.

With his well known songs such as ‘Another Train’, ‘The Shepherds Song’, and ‘When We Sing Together’, he constantly tours. His latest CD ‘The Frappin’ and Ramblin’ Pete Morton’, with its innovative adventures of marrying talking blues style rap with traditional chorus, has received terrific views. Starting out as a busker on the streets of Europe, he has entertained all over the globe with his unique and involving style of song-writing and passionate vocal delivery. He sings from the heart, with songs that tell compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a very unique perspective. The folk tradition plays a big part in Pete’s style.

‘As a chronicler of the human condition and wry observer of history and the march of progress, Morton is up there with fellow Englishmen Richard Thompson and Chris Wood, and as a people watcher…he can get close to Ray Davis. He is that good.’ The Scottish Herald *****

Their new 4th Album was recorded at “ROCKFIELD STUDIOS” during 2020/2022. Like previous albums, the new opus builds on the concept of songs having a “trying and failing theme and overcoming adversity” reflecting the times we live in.
