A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to darrennockles at gmail.com.

Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage
£20.00adv
Doors 7:30pm
Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage have more or less perfected a scuzzy and urban style of indie-folk - a 21st Century mash-up of Pete Seeger, R. Crumb and Sonic Youth.

A born and raised New Yorker, Lewis has been hard at work in the underground music and art world since the turn of the century - touring throughout the world and releasing eight acclaimed albums on the record labels Rough Trade and Don Giovanni. He is also a widely respected comics artist who self-publishes a comic book series called "Statics".

On stage Lewis is backed by his band the Voltage, including long-time collaborators Brent Cole (drums) and Mem Pahl (bass) as well as recent addition Mallory Feuer (violin and keys). The spectacular full-length Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage album "Bad Wiring" was recorded in Nashville, TN with producer Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo) and was released November 1, 2019.

Toby Marks was born in South London in 1964. He was drawn to music from an early age and formed his first band as a drummer, aged 14. He went on to sing and play guitar in a variety of styles, exploring rock, folk, jazz and world music, before discovering electronic dance music via the late ‘80s Acid House scene.

In 1989 he formed Banco de Gaia, focussing on world music-infused dance and ambient/chill-out styles, and has released 17 albums (or 20 if you include some early cassette-only releases). His official debut album Maya and the follow up Last Train to Lhasa both topped the UK Independent Album charts.

As Banco de Gaia he continues to play live and DJ worldwide and has previously performed with a variety of other musicians as a live band.

Diesel Park West are for many people the most enigmatic band from the late eighties still performing today. Back in those Thatcherite days the psychedelic guitar ground they occupied was often dismissed as a mere throwback to the mid-sixties with only an enlightened minority realising its real musical significance. The beating heart of rock ‘n’ roll is now far more aware of the Diesels' sound and maybe that’s why any live performance by the band is considered an event worth seeing. Drawing upon eight albums worth of material and the hippest cover versions imaginable, Diesel Park West continue to prove beyond a doubt that they really are the torchbearers for an entire genre.

Pete Morton is a folk singer and songwriter with a wealth of great songs and stage presence. His live shows are dynamic and thought provoking, while remaining approachable and fun loving.

With his well known songs such as ‘Another Train’, ‘The Shepherds Song’, and ‘When We Sing Together’, he constantly tours. His latest CD ‘The Frappin’ and Ramblin’ Pete Morton’, with its innovative adventures of marrying talking blues style rap with traditional chorus, has received terrific views. Starting out as a busker on the streets of Europe, he has entertained all over the globe with his unique and involving style of song-writing and passionate vocal delivery. He sings from the heart, with songs that tell compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a very unique perspective. The folk tradition plays a big part in Pete’s style.

‘As a chronicler of the human condition and wry observer of history and the march of progress, Morton is up there with fellow Englishmen Richard Thompson and Chris Wood, and as a people watcher…he can get close to Ray Davis. He is that good.’ The Scottish Herald *****

The Jam'd
At The International Music Venue Garden Street Leicester
£15.00adv £17.00door
Widely regarded as the Uk’s most authentic and leading tribute to The Jam, The Jam’d are totally committed to giving an unforgettable, authentic performance with all the energy, passion and style of the Woking 3.

As full time touring professional musicians, and massive Jam fans themselves, the band don’t “try to be” or “pretend to be” The Jam, but rather put on a performance from the heart and soul, drawing on all their memories, experiences and love of what was the country’s biggest band in their day.

Gigging up and down the UK at outdoor festivals, scooter rallies and some of the UK’s top tribute venues & events! The show also includes the only replica of Rick Bucklers ‘Great White’ drum kit & features their own brass section!……You won’t be disappointed!

Every effort is placed into reproducing the sound, arrangements and energy of a Jam gig. Those who saw The Jam live will remember the electricity, aggression, passion, and even fashion on stage, something not always prevalent in today’s world, but to The Jam’d, it is a passion, a mission, and an honour to play for fans of “the best band in the f#@*ing world!”
