A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

True Foxes
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
True Foxes, an up and coming folk/pop cousin duo from Cornwall, are quickly becoming a household name in the South West. Amie’s powerful vocals and soulful song writing has been compared to the likes of Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton and Brandi Carlile, performing on Guitar with the addition of Ukulele, Banjo and Piano. Together with Chloe’s ethereal harmonies and melodic bass lines the duo’s storytelling and sisterly banter takes the audience on an emotional journey.

Described as ‘the hardest working female duo in the South West’ (Daniel Pascoe, BBC introducing) the self-managed duo performed at 140 shows in 2022. Travelling in their little white van, they took their music outside of the South West into major cities across England, Scotland and Wales, including two UK Support tours with folk bands Flats and Sharps and The Magpies, receiving incredible reviews across some prestigious venues such as the Liverpool Philharmonic and The Water Rats in London.

The beginning of 2022 saw the release of the duo’s debut EP ‘Sunny’ which was featured on multiple radio stations, including BBC Radio Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. They then went on to hit the major UK festivals such as Wilderness in Oxford and Boardmasters, as well as performing on the main stages at Tunes in the Dunes, Great Estate, Rock Oyster and RattlerFest.

An Evening with Jason Ringenberg
£14.00adv £16.00door
Doors 7:30pm
Jason Ringenberg was born and raised on an Illinois hog farm that bordered the Rock Island Line Railroad. He left for Nashville on July 4, 1981, to pursue his dream of “making a band that could kick American roots music into the modern age!” Little did he know just how far the kick would travel. He immediately formed Jason and the Scorchers and never looked back. Throughout the 1980s and 90s they tore up venues across the planet and became known as one of the most exciting live bands in music. Their instinctive ability to combine traditional country music with high-energy punk rock has not been surpassed to this day. In 2008 they were awarded the Americana Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance.

But Ringenberg’s story does not stop there. In 1992 the “Godfather of Americana” (Mojo) decided to go solo. He has released seven records, with everyone from the BBC to USA TODAY lauding his song-writing. Touring the world relentlessly as a solo barnstormer, The Times (UK) called him “one of the most exciting performers of his generation.”

So don’t go to his concerts expecting to see a sensitive singer-songwriter sitting on a stool. With his acoustic guitar and high-energy charisma, he WILL rock the house!

Doors 7:30pm
Connor is one of the brightest talents on the UK Blues scene, voted "Young Artist of the Year" at the UK Blues Awards for the last three consecutive years. He has an impressive venue checklist, including Wembley Stadium, opening for The Who in 2019 and has gone on to play Hyde Park on a bill with Pearl Jam, Stereophonics and Johnny Marr in 2022.

Raised in an Essex village, he has trodden a path less travelled. From Connecticut, USA, as a young child, to Dubai, UAE, with Essex either side, those young eyes soaked up the travels and the changes passing him by.

One constant was his burgeoning love of American roots music. "I got interested in not just the music itself but the history and everything around it," he says. "I love the directness, the simplicity and earthiness of it," he adds. "I think with the Blues, it's fundamentally about very basic human emotions. Things like sorrow and pride and exploring the way we deal with everyday situations and problems."

As a teenager, he devoured the music of Clapton and Ray Charles - "Ray completely reshaped me as a person and the way I thought about music." But he also draws influence from old Delta records, soul artists like Sam Cooke and the Stax sound, to Jazz singers such as Billie Holiday as well as the likes of Dylan, Drake and contemporary artists such as Ray LaMontagne.

The Sandy Denny Project
£15.00adv £17.00door
Doors 1:30pm - 5:30pm
The Sandy Denny Project pay homage and cast a new shine and brilliance on the life and works of one of Britain’s best loved folk singers. Sandy Denny’s remarkable writing is approached not as a tribute band, slavishly copying the records, but as a tribute in its best sense – an interpretation of Sandy’s wonderful work. Her best-known composition “Who Knows Where the Time Goes?” has been recorded by many and her recorded work the subject of numerous reissues, along with a wealth of previously unreleased material which has appeared over the 40+ years since her death at the tender age of 31.

BBC Radio Northampton, as part of National Music Day 2017, chose ex-Fotheringay MkII members Sally Barker (The Poozies, BBC TV's 'The Voice') and guitarist PJ Wright (TradArrr, The Dylan Project) to celebrate the award of Sandy Denny's Blue Plaque at Byfield Village Hall, the scene of her last ever concert in 1978. The following year Sally and PJ constructed a dream folk-rock band (with frequent Fairport Convention guest Anna Ryder, multi-instrumentalist Marion Fleetwood, and the rhythm section of bassist Mat Davies and drummer Mark Stevens from folk-rock legends Little Johnny England) to commemorate the passing of Byfield resident Sandy for a sell-out concert at the Village Hall. 'Sandyfest' and 'The Sandy Denny Project' were born.

With every year Sandy’s reputation continues to grow in stature as a songwriter and interpreter of traditional material, and the six musicians in the Sandy Denny Project, who share an impressive folk-rock pedigree, are each at the very top of their musical game.

Half A Century: 50 Years of Otway & Barrett
£18.00adv £20.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Celebrating 50 years of attempted escapes and still loved for their total in-yer-face originality, the contrast between the dead pan humour of Barrett and mad onstage antics of Otway are hilarious to watch. John's lyrical genius and Willy's outstanding musicianship (he seems to play almost every stringed instrument known to man, plus a few hybrids of his own making!)

Willy's interest in making instruments began when he commandeered two guitars made by his dad in 1965. One from an old guitar neck and a scaffold plank which became affectionally known as the Les Dawson, and the other branded the Mk1 Schitstik electric slide of similar pedigree. These instruments were used on many of the early tracks, including Really Free and Racing Cars).

Willy's remark this will be the last time that many of you will see us together again was often hastily misinterpreted as the final throw of the dice, but the reason given is it's not them packing up, it's you lot dying off, you know who you are! And so the rumours abound…

Be prepared for everything from bare-chested theremin playing to wah wah wheelie bin as the duo jump from one hit and 40 near misses to another: an amazing and irreverent performance by two master entertainers.

Doors 8:00pm
La Villa Strangiato is an italian project, started in 2010 by Gabriele Ferrari and Carlo Fattorini, two roman musicians who had already worked together in the project "Yessongs Italy", with which they gained international praise. The purpose of La Villa Strangiato is to revive Rush's production of the '70s and first '80s, the period of their maximum popularity.

The band formed in 2010 and, thanks to the contribution of several friends and musicians, finally presented their first show (entirely dedicated to the album "Exit Stage Left") in Rome in March 2011. From then on, they started playing in several clubs across Europe with good results; but it's with the contribution of musician Claudio Sinisi (guitar) that they finally achieved the perfect combination of sound and technique.

The band present classics such as In The Mood and Working Man, as well as obscure tracks which very rarely get aired by Rush themselves plus favourites such as Xanadu, 2112, The Spirit Of Radio and many more. Tonight's show will have an emphasis on 1998 release 'Different Stages' but expect many fan favourites and some surprises along the way!

The Reeves Brothers
£12.00adv £15.00door
Doors 7:30pm
The nostalgic sound of classic country music is back, and it’s come in the form of The Reeves Brothers.

Brothers, Matt and Cole, grew up in the small town of Pahrump, Nevada down Stagecoach Road, where they lived behind The Stagestop, a good ole honky tonk where their father, Jack Reeves, headlined playing country music five nights a week.

Needless to say, country music runs like blood in their veins, and playing it comes as naturally as breathing.

From childhood, the brothers were surrounded by mentors and influences, such as, Dick Dale, Red Simpson, and Gib Guilbeau, ergo perfecting their craft with each passing day. As the boys grew older, they each pursued solo careers, but soon realized that family was at the heart of who they are, the heartbeat of their music.

Come 2016, The Reeves Brothers band was born, and they released their first full-length album, being deemed worthy of being “played on a jukebox also stocked with the likes of Charlie Rich, David Allan Coe, and Merle Haggard” with voices “as smooth as top-shelf bourbon.” (The Las Vegas Review)

After a successful album release and an every- busying tour schedule with their growing fan base, the brothers received the Ameripolitan Award for “Honky-Tonk Group of the Year” in 2018.

Get ready for their classic country, Honky-Tonk sound to revive your country soul and grace your radio speakers soon.

Spear of Destiny
£20.00adv £25.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Set to mark forty years since their formation this year, Spear of Destiny have been making a stir with their
punk-influenced power-rock since 1983. Emerging from the wreckage of iconic post-punk band Theatre Of
Hate, the original duo — Kirk Brandon and Stan Stammers — named themselves after the weapon used by Roman centurion Longinus as he pierced the body of Jesus as he hung on the cross.

Now in 2023, the current Spear of Destiny lineup is the longest serving to date, featuring Adrian Portas (New
Model Army/Sex Gang Children), Craig Adams (Sisters of Mercy/The Cult/The Mission) and Phil Martini
(Jim Jones and the Righteous Mind), as well as Clive Osborne on saxophone and Steve Allen-Jones on keys.

Heralding an array of positive reviews for both their live shows and studio material, MOJO enthused “Kirk
Brandon is one of the UK’s best kept secrets”, while Jeremy Vine says Spear’s ringleader is “one of our
greatest musical geniuses”. With BBC Radio’s Jools Holland dubbing their 2014 album ‘31’ as “possibly
[Spear’s] best album in 20 years,” their recent efforts see the band at their professional peak, with Louder
Than War awarding the record 9/10 and commending: “Brandon puts his all into every song with epic
bombast, coming across as a tragic rock n roll anti-hero.”

Still continuing to look toward the future, Brandon has penned fourteen new tracks for the latest Spear of
Destiny album Ghost Population. Both fan forums and music journalists alike have heralded the release of
Ghost Population May 2023 will see the full commercial release of the album into the shops on Brandon's own Eastersnow recording Company via Code 7 Distribution.
