A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to rideout at stayfree.co.uk once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

The Mustangs
£10.00adv £12.00door
THE MUSTANGS are one of the most established and critically-acclaimed blues rock bands in the UK, with a reputation for blistering live shows and ground-breaking original albums.
Regarded as a breath of fresh air on the UK blues scene, they have been nominated for four British Blues Awards. The London-based four piece combines the power and punch of traditional R’n’B with great original songs and a show-stopping stage set. They have forged a formidable reputation as one of the hardest-working and most charismatic bands in British blues.
Led by the stunning voice and slashing guitar of livewire frontman Adam Norsworthy, with the razor-sharp rhythm section of Jon Bartley (drums) and Ben McKeown (bass), the line-up is completed by R’n’B veteran Derek Kingaby on vintage blues harp.
The Mustangs formed in Southern England in 2001. They immediately started gaining rave reviews in the blues press, with writers hailing the band as the country’s brightest new blues talent. News of their deft song-writing and hunger for playing live soon spread. Since then they have headlined stages all over the UK and Northern Europe. In 2017 they played the legendary Glastonbury Festival.
Now in their 19th year and with eight critically acclaimed albums under their belt, as well as a Best Of and a live album, the band’s eleventh album WATERTOWN was released to glowing critical acclaim.
The band’s drummer Jon Bartley is an active political campaigner, and in September 2016 was elected joint-leader of the National Green Party of England & Wales.

feat: Tiger Moth Tales solo
Heavy, but with a lot of room for dynamics and atmosphere. A raw, pure, dark sound with emotion as its center. Lesoir's set goes from fragility and whispering, to chaos and heavy sounds, without losing the melody of each song.
Lesoir is no longer a stranger to the Dutch progressive rock landscape and has even been successful in China. The art rock band is influenced by Anathema, Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson and The Gathering. Lesoir features two fabulous front ladies.
Lesoir was founded in 2010 and released its debut album one year later. In the meantime, the band has four albums to its name. Their second album “Transience” was produced by John Cornfield and mastered by Brian Lucey (The Last Shadow Puppets). Their third album “Luctor Et Emergo” was recorded at the British Airfield Studio (Elton John, War Of The World). Lesoir has in recent years performed with bands like The Gentle Storm, Delain, Evergrey, The Pineapple Thief and Within Temptation. The band was also featured at festivals like Night Of The Prog, IO Pages Festival and Midsummer Prog Festival. The new album is produced by John Cornfield (Muse) and Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief) and released on the German quality label Gentle Art Of Music. Lesoir just got back from 5 weeks of touring through Europe as special guest of Riverside.
Tiger Moth Tales features Peter Jones solo outing as support. Singer and keyboard player with Camel, Red Bazar and of course Tiger Moth Tales in this stripped down version. Peter's forthcoming new album should be released at the time of this performance.

Contemporary folk multi-instrumentalist Rachael Dadd releases her 6th album ‘Flux’ on Memphis Industries in November 2019. It follows on from her highly acclaimed album ‘We Resonate’ and previous string of releases in the UK, EU and Japan. ‘Flux’ is an album of big bold songs: a response to the flow of life up-rooted; a protest against the flow of recent political history; a diary of the flow within the intimate space of home.

Co-produced with Marcus Hamblett (James Holden/ Villagers / Laura Marling/ Bears Den) ‘Flux’ is Rachael Dadd`s first full band studio album, and sees her collaborating with right hand woman Emma Gatrill (Matthew and the Atlas, Willie Mason), drummer Rob Pemberton (Low Chimes, Emily Barker), guest bassist Jim Barr of Portishead, and guest vocalists and long time friends/collaborators Kate Stables (This is the Kit) and Rozi Plain.

Warner E. Hodges Band + Drivin N Cryin
Doors 7:30pm
Cheeseweasel Promotions is delighted to present an epic hard-rocking double bill.

From his early days guitar slinging in Jason & the Scorchers to more than a decade with Dan Baird & Homemade Sin and a parallel solo career that has produced four ace albums so far with a new one due in April, Warner E. Hodges is a man who knows how to rock and his live shows are famous for their excitement, intensity and power. He was a wild child who fused rock ’n’ roll aggression with country roots and getting on for forty years later he still is and he’s doing it as well as ever. As he says himself, Americana on a stool it ain’t, but some of the best rock ’n’ roll you’ll see it surely is. With Ben Marsden (guitar), Jason Knight (bass) and John Powney (drums), Warner has a band capable of running Black Sabbath into Merle Haggard and back out into AC/DC.

And if that isn’t enough, there’s also the first Leicester appearance since 2016 from Drivin N Cryin. Over thirty years on the road have honed the Atlanta rockers into a ferocious live powerhouse that can rock with the best of them. Across ten albums (including a gold disc), a handful of EPs and more shows than even they can count, the band have won themselves a dedicated fanbase that continues to grow with every performance. They are members of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, REM’s Peter Buck is a fan and Rolling Stone said “crunching hard rock is the drivin’ part, brittle country-ish balladry the cryin’, with the two linked by a heavy dose of Led Zeppelinphilia.”

Come down for a great not-to-be-missed night of rock ’n’ roll as it should be!

"Not often am I so blown away by music, it's beautiful!" @TheProcCast Quirky. Earthy sisters Laura & Mary-Anne Ratcliffe remain the core element of Leicester band Mia & the Moon who perform original co-compositions in harmony with accompaniment ranging from gentle acoustic guitar to full band with a choir of angelic proportions and their new show (based on follow-up album...) ‘YLLA’ showcases this versatility featuring a diverse spectrum of talented musicians and singers, many of whom joined the band this year! Step-fathered by Brian Curtis who was front-man of bluegrass sensation ‘The Acme Band’, their genetic father Richard Thrift also performed music with Dolly Parton while mother Kathy Ratcliffe remains a prolific songwriter and country singer today. Early years spent at festivals and a background in gospel folk still comes through in Mia & the Moons sound, strongly influenced by modern day favourites such as Florence & the Machine, Ben Howard & Lana Del Ray. “Harmonies you just don’t hear anymore!” BBC Radio Leicester.

With his well known songs such as ‘Another Train’, ‘The Shepherds Song’, and ‘When we sing together’, he constantly tours. His latest Cd ‘The frappin’ and ramblin’ Pete Morton’, with its innovative adventures of marrying talking blues style rap with traditional chorus, has received terrific views. Starting out as a busker on the streets of Europe, he has entertained all over the globe with his unique and involving style of song-writing and passionate vocal delivery. He sings from the heart, with songs that tell compelling stories and speak of the human condition from a very unique perspective. The folk tradition plays a big part in Pete’s style.

‘As a chronicler of the human condition and wry observer of history and the march of progress, Morton is up there with fellow Englishmen Richard Thompson and Chris Wood, and as a people watcher…he can get close to Ray Davis. He is that good.’ The Scottish Herald *****

Pete Morton is a folk singer and songwriter with a wealth of great songs and stage presence. His live shows are dynamic and thought provoking, while remaining approachable and fun loving.

Kid perform an authentic and powerful tribute to the music of one of the world’s best-loved bands - The Pretenders.

In the studio, The Pretenders crafted perfect pop; radio-friendly but oh so cool. Live, they were wilder and heavier and Kid perfectly capture both these sides of The Pretenders’ personality.

Drawing upon an inspirational back catalogue of Pretenders classics, Kid replicate the sound and feel of a Pretenders live show with power and panache. All the hits are there including; Brass in Pocket, Back on the Chain Gang, Don’t Get Me Wrong, Talk of the Town, I’ll Stand By You, Stop Your Sobbing and, of course, the staggeringly beautiful Kid. Augmenting this cavalcade of hits, Kid rock the stage with a selection of The Pretenders’ most popular album tracks.

Rachel Baiman’s June 2017 label debut Shame was featured on NPR’s “Songs We Love”, called a “Rootsy Wake-up Call” by Folk Alley, and described by Vice’s “Noisey” as “flipping off authority one song at a time.” It was nominated for the Independent Music Awards Americana Album of the Year, and was the recipient of the Indie Acoustic Award’s Americana Album of the Year award.

Baiman’s Thanksgiving is an intriguing follow up to Shame, allowing her a chance to stretch out stylistically, moving effortlessly between bluegrass, to bolk, old-time and country. The 4 song
project features special guests Molly Tuttle (with whom she toured the UK with in 2018), and Josh Oliver (of Mandolin Orange). The bittersweet lyricism she’s become known for conveys the push and pull of hardship and hope we often feel during the holiday season.

Raised in Chicago by a radical economist and a social worker, Baiman was surrounded by social justice issues her entire life. “If I wanted to rebel against my parents I could have become a finance banker or a corporate lawyer” she says of her childhood. While her classmates went to church or temple on Sunday mornings, Baiman attended the Ethical Humanist Society of Greater Chicago, a non-religious community formed around discussions of morality and current events. “That was always a tough one to explain at school” she says with a laugh.

As a teenager, Baiman found music to be a welcome escape from worrying about global politics. “I often found the constant discussion of seemingly unsolvable problems to be intense and overwhelming, and when I moved to Nashville to pursue music it felt like something positive, beautiful and productive that I could put into the world. Now that I’ve had some years to devote to music, I find it hard to escape from the values that I grew up with, and I feel compelled to write politically, to speak out about things that I’ve experienced or seen. Songwriting is a unique opportunity to do that, because it avails a more emotional vehicle for discussion. I love the political tradition of folk music, from Woody Guthrie to Tupac, and my hope is that this record adds another voice to it.”

Well versed in a variety of fiddle traditions including Old-Time, Bluegrass, Scottish and Canadian styles, Rachel Baiman is a versatile and dynamic musician. Rachel is a winner of the
Midwestern Fiddle Championships as well as a two time winner of the Illinois State fiddle Championship and a second place winner of the 2012 Nashville Grand Masters Fiddle Championship in the “Traditional Styles” category. Her love for folk and acoustic music inspired a move to Nashville in 2008, where she earned degrees in Music and Anthropology at Vanderbilt University.

In February 2020, Baiman will release a three song EP in collaboration with Singer-Songwriter Mike Wheeler. She will return to the UK this May with her trio, featuring Shelby Means (Della
Mae) on bass, and Cy Winstanley (Tattletale Saints) on guitar.
