A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

The Rollin Stoned
£12.00adv £14.00door
Doors 7:30pm
With a Rollin Stoned show, the costumes are shamelessly camp, gaudy and absolutely fab, the instruments genuinely vintage and the wit irreverent. However while the tongue is never far from the cheek we make sure it is never to the detriment of the music. This band is not to be confused with the grotesque parody on parody 'Stella Street'-Lite Stones bands that abound, nor a bunch of seasoned old pros, opportunistically hitched on to the “Tribute Bandwagon” for an easy ride. What clearly comes across to audiences seeing the band at work is the passion we all have for the music of what is, cliche or not, "The Greatest Rock'n'Roll Band" the world has seen.

A typical two hour show includes not only all the classic crowd pleasing hits, but is spiced with enough eclectic selections from the deeper recesses of Stones Album archives to satisfy the most demanding of “Buffs”, all performed with the same vibrantly authentic attack and raw energy that characterised the original Stones shows in their prime.

Davey Dodds & Friends
£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
Described by Fantasy Forest Festival as “The Master of Celtic rock'n'reel”, Davey Dodds fronts a startlingly good live band. The music is Celtic, psychedelic, Pagan and life-affirming, they will set your feet dancing!

Davey is a songwriter of some renown. His classic, 'The Magpie', was recorded by The Unthanks, used on The Detectorists on BBC2 and broadcast from The Proms in 2018. The same song was covered by David Gilmour in 2020.

A recent review described the band members as “Forces of nature”. Davey himself provides the lead vocals and plays electric and acoustic octave mandolins. Gillie Hotson flies her electric violin, Daniel Billing drives the music with his bass and David Clifford powers the band with his drums.

Davey has an interesting history. In 1994, his old band, Red Jasper headlined The European Symphonic Rock Festival. Shortly afterwards, SI Music, the Dutch record label the band was signed to, went bust. Davey went off to live on a different planet and worked as a fly-fishing guide in remote, wilderness locations. People and events prodded him back into playing and writing in 2017. Three albums later – he's having a blast! The adventure continues.....

Doors 7:30pm
Alan Fletcher is a household name in the UK because of his portrayal of Dr Karl Kennedy in
the popular Australian drama Neighbours. Thousands of people also well remember Alan’s
touring band The Waiting Room that performed their unique rock n roll throughout the UK
for ten years.
Since 2019 Alan has focussed on mericana/Alt-Country music, working with Australian producers Lachlan Bryan and Damian Cafarella to write and record an EP and Album of
alternatively poignant and very funny songs about life, love, loss and beer! His album has
attracted widespread praise.
Engaging, delightful, wistful and original, The Point is classically crafted whilst contemporarily composed. It’s an album that covers a wide spectrum of emotions, that shakes and stirs with infectious honesty. – The Manc Review (mancreview.com)
It is as a live performer that Alan has made his mark highlighted by his two-week tour of the
UK in 2023.

Overall Alan Fletcher delivered a show that surprised in the best possible way. He had a fantastic vocal quality throughout as well as some solid guitar playing, but what elevated the evening for
me was the balance he struck between thoughtfulness and fun and the strength of his
connection with the crowd. It’s safe to say he’s going to appeal to music fans way beyond just those who know him from ‘Neighbours’, and personally I’m very intrigued to see where he’s going to take his music next. - Entertainment-focus.com – Laura Cooney

Chaos 8 hail from the North East Of England.

Formed in 2012 by guitarist/songwriter Paul Williams and singer/lyricist Beki Straughan, they were later joined by James 'Oz' Bowey on bass and Steve Naisbet on drums/samples.

A definitive hard driven guitar sound and dark swirling synths gives you atmospheric textures that truly bring out brutal, beautiful and oppressive moods that encapsulate every single song.

Their debut album 'Burn' was released online only in 2012. The response was so good Paul and Beki sought out other musicians to take their sound on the road. Their debut gig became the physical album launch in 2014 followed by 'Cause & Effect' in 2016.

Three EP's have followed, 'Out Of Control' in 2018, 'She Is Coming' in 2019 and the latest 'One Last Kiss' in 2021.

They have played many gigs and festivals in the UK, Ireland, France and Germany with many radio plays on BBC Introducing, HRH Radio and local radio stations. Their diverse fanbase includes lovers of rock, metal, goth, industrial and punk.

Dark Side Of The Wall
Doors 8:00pm
The ever-popular award winning ‘Dark Side Of The Wall’ return once again to present an evening of classic Pink Floyd music in their own inimitable style.

One of those is the band’s long-serving, and Leicester-based, bass player Steve Chilton, says, “I always think that one of our great selling points is the fact that we love what we do. Live gigs should always be about that band and audience interaction. Pink Floyd’s music and persona is often perceived as quite serious but whilst we perform their music with the love and respect it deserves, we always bring our own personalities to the stage. This is definitely no ‘look-a-like’ tribute band and we’re proud of that. Who’d want to look like Pink Floyd anyway?”

In well over 2 hours of reverent tribute to their heroes DSOTW perform music from all Pink Floyd’s classic albums and feature tracks such as Comfortably Numb, Money, Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Another Brick In The Wall to name just a few. If you’ve seen Dark Side Of The Wall in concert before then you’ll know it’s a gig not to be missed as they bring their theatre show into the more intimate setting of the Musician.

Nina Nastasia
£17.50adv
plus Mountaintop Junkshop
Doors 7:30pm
Nina Nastasia is a singer and songwriter who has created a distinctive, emotionally powerful body of work that has roots in folk and Americana, but with a dark, Gothic sensibility.

Nastasia's performances are built around her acoustic guitar, usually with arrangements that use spare string sections and minimalistic, dynamic percussion to complement her lyrics, which are intensely personal and unpretentiously literate, as her vocals strike a remarkable balance between delicacy and strength.

2002's The Blackened Air, Nastasia's second album, displayed the full range of her talent and the unique sound she and her accompanists conjured in the studio. She found a valuable musical ally in Jim White, and they created a collaborative LP, 2007's You Follow Me, that made the most of their creative interplay.

After stepping away from music for over a decade, she returned in 2022 with Riderless Horse, a spare guitar-and-vocal set created in the wake of a major personal upheaval.

Doors 8:00pm
VODA are an original trio founded by Polish guitarist & singer Radek Kope in 2014. The band's debut 'ONERARE' surprised listeners, including complex, ambitious compositions (e.g. a string quartet hooking up with modern classical music) with the uncompromising energy of rock, showing the artistic horizon in which the band have since followed.

The band consolidated their reputation with second album 'Amphibia', released in 2019, which mainly included compositions created during numerous concert tours. Voda have in fact played over 300 concerts across their native Poland, Slovakia, Czechia, Germany, Lithuania and the UK. Their music has been showcased across most main radio stations in Poland, a unique achievement for a band with such an ambitious sound.

In 2020, during lockdown Voda arranged and recorded a special performance that took place in a 16th century cottage, with some of their songs played on grand piano and double bass. The concert was subsequently given a CD/DVD release under the name 'Parallaxis', which (since DVD is not popular anymore) was advertised as The Last DVD in the World!

The trio have have performed with, among many others, KSU (Polish rockers), NURT (70s Polish prog-psychedelic rockers), Mostly Autumn, Atomic Rooster and Focus. Tonight's show will sees the band showcase their acclaimed new 4th album 'Endorphinum Aquatum'.

Fronted by Millie Manders, whose staggering vocal dexterity, backed by grinding guitars and irresistible horns has huge pop appeal. The lyrics deliberate on themes of loss, betrayal, anger, anxiety, heartbreak and bitterness, environmental catastrophe and political unrest. With a conscience ensuring zero plastic wrapping on any merchandise, and that limited-edition artwork and clothing are sold to help raise money for charities, the band are striving to make a difference whilst keeping us uplifted and brilliantly entertained. Diesel Park West are for many people the most enigmatic band from the late eighties still performing today. Back in those Thatcherite days the psychedelic guitar ground they occupied was often dismissed as a mere throwback to the mid-sixties with only an enlightened minority realising its real musical significance. The beating heart of rock ‘n’ roll is now far more aware of the Diesels' sound and maybe that’s why any live performance by the band is considered an event worth seeing. Drawing upon eight albums worth of material and the hippest cover versions imaginable, Diesel Park West continue to prove beyond a doubt that they really are the torchbearers for an entire genre.

Stodart started playing music at a young age, inspired by artists such as The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Kinks. He formed The Magic Numbers in 2002 with his sister, bassist and vocalist Michele Stodart, and school friends, drummer Sean Gannon and keyboardist Angela Gannon. The band’s distinctive sound, blending indie rock, folk and pop influences, quickly gained attention.

Their 2005 self-titled debut album was a critical and commercial success, topping the UK album charts and earning them a Mercury Prize nomination. Stodart’s songwriting on the album was praised for its emotional depth, catchy melodies and intricate harmonies, with highlights including ‘Love Me Like You’, ‘Forever Lost’ and ‘I See You, You See Me’.

The Magic Numbers remain a beloved and respected band in the indie rock scene, with Stodart’s songwriting and vocals playing a key role in their enduring appeal.

Award winning performing songwriter, Nathan Bell, the subject of a 2020 Documentary short film “I Don’t Do This For Love” was a best-of selection for Americana UK in 2016, 2017, and 2018 including Best Male Artist of 2017.

He is a mesmerizing live performer who borrows from traditional musical forms and the literary traditions of writers like Jack London, John Berryman, and Studs Terkel to produce moving pictures of the American experience.

A Nathan Bell show is a hell of an experience. Sometimes people laugh. Sometimes they cry. Sometimes people just stare stone faced in disbelief. A goat once screamed at every note from the harmonica. Birds gather. In the far reaches of The Netherlands, people sang along. Near Frankfurt, Germany, the Blues caused a man to speak in tongues.

Not one single song will make excuses, ask for pity, or condemn an honest and forthright human. No song will mock or punch down. It is likely that the guitar will be played interestingly. Harmonicas will be activated with intent. At the end of the evening there will be sweat on the stage.

It's a hell of a show.

“It’s all powerful stuff and Bell is spellbinding on stage, a true sage for these troubled times." - Paul Kerr - Americana UK/Blabber n’ Smoke
