A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to darrennockles at gmail.com.

Doors 1.30pm Starts 2pm

It's been a strange old journey for Stone Foundation. From once playing half empty bars to the present day, in front of sold out arenas supporting the Specials, their story and progression is still unfolding.

They have honed their sound over the course of five studio albums released during their career and along the way have worked alongside the likes of Paul Weller, Dr. Robert, Bettye Lavette, William Bell, Nolan Porter, Kathryn Williams, Mick Talbot, Hamish Stuart, Steve White, Joe Harris and many more.

The Midlands-based outfit deliver their own unique brand of soul, funk and jazz featuring a perfect blend of electric guitar, Hammond organ and horns over a solid soulful (stone) foundation, the time has never been better for Stone Foundation to spread their gospel further afield.

The Songs of Nick Drake and Sandy Denny

Both Nick Drake and Sandy Denny possessed unique voices that created haunting and
melancholic personal songs. Influenced in the 60s by the emergence of acoustic songwriting, their songs had a singularly British identity.

Both were signed by Joe Boyd to Island Records and sadly both died at a tender age.
This evening of classic English Folk music is brought to you by Martin Ansell and Sally
Barker, friends of many years standing. Martin and Sally have written and played music together over the years and perform these wonderful songs with a love, care and ease in
the way only old friends can.

Wistful and ethereal, Nick Drake's three critically acclaimed albums - Five Leaves Left, Bryter Layter, and Pink Moon - combining his ethereal voice with jazz and orchestral
arrangements, sold poorly in his lifetime. Drake suffered from depression and found it
difficult to perform in front of live audiences. After the recording of his 3 rd album, his mental
health declined and he died of an overdose of antidepressants in 1974. Since his death at
the age of 26, interest in his music has garnered widespread influence and a sizeable cult
following.

Transatlantic singer-songwriter Ilana Zsigmond AKA St. Catherine’s Child, is one of the rising stars of the Indie Folk/Americana scene. She has played to entranced audiences both in the USA and UK.

Having had interest from labels and publishers from both the UK and USA, she signed to TRO Essex Music and Shamus Records in New York. She was excited to sign to a company which holds the publishing for the Woody Guthrie archive, original David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and T Rex catalogue, along with breakthrough artists such as Flamy Grant and The Pairs.

Born in England to musical parents, Ilana spent the majority of her childhood in New Haven, Connecticut, bouncing back and forth between continents as her parents toured.

After settling back in the UK in 2015, she has formed a band that reflects the Americana aesthetic that surrounded her throughout her childhood with the articulation and dry wit of her British sensibilities.

Named after the patron saint of eloquent women, her vocal strength and poetic songwriting shines at the heart of St. Catherine’s Child.
