A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to darrennockles at gmail.com.

Humour in music, it can be a delicate balance. Luckily, Anna Erhard perfectly understands how a good song can be funny, and vice versa. Yet what really makes her stand out, is that she can leave behind the hilarities to suddenly evoke some very deep emotions, with an earnestness you wouldn’t expect while listening to the rest of her music.

The Swiss-born, Berlin-based artist used to be a part of folk band Serafyn, but now creates her enjoyable brand of indie pop together with Pola Roy (formerly of Wir Sind Helden), with the duo sounding like Wet Leg and Fiona Apple had a rather subdued lovechild. Anna Erhard’s second album ‘Campsite’ is an intimate affair, as if we’re reading along in her diary. A unique look into the soul of a very creative spirit.

Doors 7.30pm Starts 8pm

Is there a more iconic Cuban album than Buena Vista Social Club’s eponymous debut?

Winning the Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album, it remains a high watermark not just for Cuban music but world music as a whole, having been only one of two non-English speaking albums to be included in Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest albums of all time list.

Doing this album any sort of justice is no easy task, but there isn’t anyone better than Sambroso Noda, the beating heart of London’s Cuban community and flourishing music scene.

He has whipped up a bonafide ‘all star’ group of Cuban musicians who will pay their own unique and loving tribute to the landmark album.

The 7-piece all star band promise to mesmerise the crowd with their combination of Cuban Son, Latin Jazz and Rumba, from Cuba’s Golden era.

Chris Helme
£15.00adv
Doors 7:30pm
Seated concert
Doors 7.30pm Starts 8pm

“With the Seahorses over his shoulder, Helme continues to create glorious music in his own name.”

Chris Helme first rose to prominence as the front man of John Squire’s post-Stone Roses band ‘The Seahorses’ which saw him touring extensively and sharing the stage with The Rolling Stones, U2 and Oasis in numerous support slots. Now solo- he is still rightfully remembered for Britpop classics ‘Love Is The Law’ and ‘Blinded By The Sun’ – songs that evoked everything the 90’s stood for, the excitement, the culture and the bands that provided a voice in a period of political and social imbalance.
Chris’ enviable back catalogue, is bolstered further by his acclaimed works with The Yards, but it’s his last solo album ‘The Rookery’ that portrays him at his very best. The album combines melody with imaginative, intricate, three-way guitar interplay that brings each track to a lush, blossoming climax. Add to this Chris’ keen ear for arranging, plus some brooding string passages and it becomes the perfect platform for his wonderful songs. Melodies rooted in traditional folk are reimagined on an album of rich variation, testament to his most powerful weapon – his voice.

Stipe (R.E.M. Tribute)
At The International Music Venue Garden Street Leicester
£12.00adv £14.00door
Stipe are recognised as the definitive tribute to R.E.M., the band from Athens, Georgia who are widely credited as pioneers of alternative rock, influencing countless bands who would follow. R.E.M remain a model for young musicians everywhere: a band who always did things on their own terms, committed to doing the right thing for each other, and never compromising on their artistic independence. They called it a day, on their own terms, in 2011, and have repeatedly ruled out ever reuniting. Stipe are a professional six-piece who, as huge fans of the band, take the music (if not themselves) seriously. Iconic songs such as ‘Losing My Religion’ and ‘Everybody Hurts’ are recreated note-for-note, while Richard Southern’s studied vocal pays homage to Michael Stipe’s unique voice and enigmatic performance style. While all shows feature the familiar hits, every setlist is different. Deeper cuts from R.E.M.’s peerless back-catalogue, such as ‘Talk About The Passion’ or ‘Don’t’ Go Back To Rockville’ will delight fans of the band, and is an opportunity for any fan of great music to hear this timeless material played live with love and care.

Stipe are a must-see tribute band who capture the essence of R.E.M., one of the defining bands of our times.
