A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

R.E.M. are one of the world’s most enigmatic bands. With a string of peerless albums; one eye on the underground and one eye on the soaring chorus; we will never see their like again. From “The One I Love” through to “The End of the World” and more besides.
Stipe bring you all the top songs from these icons including “Losing My Religion”, and “Man on the Moon” and with all the atmosphere, attitude, emotion, and energy you’d expect. Stipe will provide the same cagey mix of attitude, poetry and idiosyncratic sound built around jangling guitars and hazy vocals of frontman Michael Stipe.
Whether it’s playing major festivals or appearing on the One Show, performing for Michael Stipe himself, Stipe are the definitive R.E.M. tribute – a complete band, and encyclopaedic knowledge of the back catalogue. They bring R.E.M. to life on stage – the contrasts and the magic; that direct connection to the music.

With her 2017 debut Shame, Americana songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Baiman emerged as a fearless voice of the American female experience. “Shame” was featured on NPR’s “Songs We Love”, called a “Rootsy Wake-up Call” by Folk Alley, and described by Vice’s “Noisey” as “flipping off authority one song at a time.” Her new album, Common Nation Of Sorrow’, is a heartbreaking albeit beautiful assessment of her native land where she tells stories of American capitalism and the individual and communal devastation it manifests.

Originally from Chicago, Baiman moved to Nashville at eighteen, and has spent the last decade working as a musician in a wide variety of roles, from session musician (Molly Tuttle, Kelsey Waldon, Caroline Spence), to live sidewoman (Kacey Musgraves, Amy Ray), to bandmate and producer. Fiddle music was her first love, and she is known in the bluegrass and old time world for her work with progressive acoustic duo 10 String Symphony with fiddle player Christian Sedelmyer.

Mark Trounson’s Disquiet recorded their debut album 'Malus and Clawback' in August 2019, for release in 2020, but a pandemic and parenthood intervened! The band is lead by bassist and composer Mark Trounson, alongside Ronan Perrett on alto saxophone and clarinet, Rob Griffin on tenor saxophone, Jacky Naylor on acoustic and electric piano, and Ben Brown on drums and percussion.

The repertoire of Disquiet draws on the influence of contemporary jazz as well as forms inspired by folk and rock music. The music blends conventional structures with riffs and free improvisation within a variety of different rhythmic feels. Inspired by some of the great composers of the music like Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, Paul Motian and Reid Anderson, Mark's voice as a composer blends the playful and irreverent with the solemn and contemplative, sometimes within the same piece, reflecting on the absurdist drama of modern life.

Doors 8:00pm
Nashville artist Stacy Antonel makes clever, country-leaning Americana that feels both vintage and hyper-modern. Her “country jazz” vocals conjure the great singers of the 20s-30s, with the emotive power of country icon Patsy Cline. Rooted in classic country and laced with elements of jazz, pop, and R&B, Antonel’s narrative songs often feature unconventional themes.

Antonel grew up near San Diego studying classical piano and cites an eclectic range of early musical inspiration:

Tori Amos’s peculiar phrasing, Otis Redding’s rich melodic hooks. After winning televised singing contest “3 Minutes to Stardom”, Antonel quit her job to focus full-time on music. She began performing classic country covers as Ginger Cowgirl, and in 2017 moved to Nashville to record her self-titled debut EP, which was released in 2019. The album was praised by critics and led to tours in California, the Southeast, the UK, and Germany.

Billy Mitchell has done it all as a performer and songwriter including an eight year stint as frontman of the legendary ‘Lindisfarne’ til their retirement in 2003. Billy’s influence on the latter-day line-up of the band helped them stay as respected and successful as they had been prior to his recruitment.

Bob Fox has twice been nominated as Folk Singer of the Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. His masterful interpretation of traditional and contemporary songs is one of his greatest strengths and during his time performing with Stu Luckley, won the Melody Maker 'Folk Album of the Year Award' in 1978 with their album ‘Nowt So Good’ll Pass’.

Their duo show features songs with a strong north-eastern flavour celebrating the richness of life on both sides of the rivers Tyne, Wear and beyond. Jersey Budd made his name playing “rollicking bar room rock’n’roll” (Q magazine) with “everyman appeal” (The Guardian) and has the ability to “get the crowd to eat out of his hand” (NME). He’s performed at the Albert Hall, he’s performed at The Cookie and all points in-between, as well as far too many festivals to list here, and is as happy supporting the likes of Turin Brakes and The Enemy as headlining his own powerhouse shows.

Sometimes though even the most committed rock ’n’ roller needs to pause and take a step back. Jersey brings his band Silverball to the Musician for the first time and will once again be stripping things down to their roots to allow anthems like Wonderlands and She Came Back to really breathe, and to get that unique connection with an audience that only a small show can bring. Come along for another night to remember, with uplifting melodies and powerful lyrics from one of the unsung heroes of our time.
