A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

The Monochrome Set

Doors 7:30pm
"The Monochrome are currently touring to promote their latest album, "Marc Riley Sessions from 2011 to 2022.'.

The band feature original Monochrome Set members Bid (guitar/vocals) and Andy Warren (bass) with Athen Ayren on keyboards and Stephen Gilchrist on drums.

The Monochrome Set formed in 1978, and were heavily influential in the post-punk scene that evolved after the initial scorched earth of punk.

The band's early releases were on the legendary Rough Trade Label before signing with Virgin offshoot Din Disc. They also released several albums on the Cherry Red label, making a notable appearance on that labels' well known "Pillows and Prayers" compilation.

Though The Monochrome Set split in 1985 the next decade saw several reunions for both live gigs and further studio recordings. After a hiatus of over a decade the band reformed full time in 2010 and have since toured all over the UK, Europe, Japan and the USA, whilst also releasing seven new, critically acclaimed, studio albums.

Now in their 46th year, they are beginning a new series of gigs promoting their latest album and playing songs old and new."

'Folk Rock Super Group'

"The Magpie Arc is a cross-border band featuring acclaimed musicians:-
Nancy Kerr,
Findlay Napier,
Tom Wright,
Alex Hunter,
and UK folk legend
Martin Simpson
on electric guitar.

Formed to blend their songwriting and musicianship into a fresh take on the British folk/rock sound of the '60s and '70s, the band quickly gained recognition for its unique mix of folk, rock, country, and prog-rock elements.

Their debut album, Glamour In The Grey (2022), spent 12 months on the UK Official Folk Chart, debuting at number 9 and Mojo magazine compared it to Fairport Convention's ground-breaking 1969 release, calling it “Liege and Lief-affirming” with “an elemental racket.”

The band has made waves on UK festival stages and in headline tours and this "Evening with...." show features solo slots from Martin, Nancy and Findlay plus a full band set.

Mark Radcliffe described The Magpie Arc on BBC Radio 2 as “Folk Rock with Led Zeppelin vibes.”

Expect excellent songs, lush harmonies, scything electric guitars, gorgeous fiddle lines and rock solid bass and drums."

Chuck Prophet

£25.00adv £30.00door
plus Our Man In The Field
Doors 7:30pm
From his days with legendary Paisley Underground outfit Green on Red to his solo career, which now stretches to over a dozen critically acclaimed albums, Chuck Prophet has been at the forefront of the Americana scene and his shows a brilliant mix of searing guitar solos, insightful lyrics, entertaining stories and tunes. Lots of tunes. A cancer diagnosis temporarily applied the brakes but gave him the opportunity to listen to a lot of music and he discovered a band called ¿Qiensave?, leading exponents of Cumbia music, a style that originated in Columbia and spread to Mexico and California, where the band are from. Fast forward to today and Prophet has recorded his latest album, Wake The Dead, with the band and delivered a heady mix of rhythmic rock’n’roll, punk, surf and soul, shot through with nods to Cumbia’s roots.

On this tour he’ll be playing with ¿Qiensave? as well as members of his own band. Expect new songs, old songs, curve balls, classics and a seriously good time from a “renaissance rocker” (Uncut).
