A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Doors 8:00pm
The 5-piece rock and metal fusion band, Infinity, first came to prominence back in mid to late 2021 on their local Leicester music scene as a recognised up-and-coming talent and often finding gigs under local promoters, securing shared headline gigs as well as supports for other up-and-coming indie acts.

However, due to university commitments, the band momentarily took a break from performing live. In this time, they took the jump to writing original material. This gap took them all the way to December 2022 when they released their first original song, Against The Ritual.

Moving into 2023, with a fresh new set of all-original songs, they intend to take their act country-wide; taking on the music industry one gig at a time.

The Unravelling Wilburys
£12.00adv
Doors 7:30pm
This top tribute show is more than just a tribute - they are the complete package! Their great combination of brilliant musicianship and tongue in cheek humour has had rave reviews throughout the UK. Playing the country-rock songs of the Traveling Wilburys, the band also steal some choice numbers from its five iconic members; Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne.

The fabulous Unravelling Wilburys are made up of Sticky Willy, Walter, Thumper, Blind Melon and Honky Tonk Wilbury, the “real” Wilbury brothers, who grew up in an Appalachian shack and first presented their songs in Nashville back in 1987. The show tells the story of how their songs were (allegedly) stolen by Messrs Orbison & Co. at Nashville’s Tootsies Bar and the hard road they had to tread to get ‘em back. With a set list comprising of songs including ‘Handle With Care’ Tweeter And The Monkey Man’, ‘The Devil’s Been Busy’, ‘Pretty Woman’, ‘Here Comes The Sun’, ‘Mr Blue Sky’, ‘Mr Tambourine Man’ and ‘American Girl’, this is a show not to be missed!

Fleetingwood Mac
SHOW SOLD OUT
Doors 7:30pm
Fleetingwood Mac are a young and exciting new tribute to the legendary band Fleetwood Mac. They didn’t set out to be yet another tribute band, with tacky wigs and fancy dress outfits, but instead bring across the live sound of Fleetwood Mac, with just one guitar, a keyboard, a drum kit, a man on the bass and of course, the vocals!

As much as they aim to create a genuine Fleetwood Mac sound, they can’t help but give it a modern edge, it’s just the way they play. How else are five people supposed to play tribute to a band that have lasted nearly 50 years? A band who over time have featured eight different guitarists & vocalists. A band that started out as part of the sixties British Blues Invasion and ended up as one of the biggest mainstream groups of the eighties.

The band aim to introduce the songs to a new generation of fans, who just like themselves, weren’t even born when the band were in their prime. They don’t go on stage pretending to be Fleetwood Mac, instead as five young musicians who love and want to share the music of one of the world's greatest bands to a wider audience.

Julian Taylor
£12.00adv £14.00door
Doors 8:00pm
After 25 years in music, building an unimpeachable reputation as a truly independent artist and entrepreneur, Julian Taylor now owns his legacy. From the formative rock of Staggered Crossing to the genre fusion of Julian Taylor Band, and now his revered work as a solo singer-songwriter, Julian owns the right to it all and it couldn’t have happened at a better time.

It’s rare in this era to see an artist build slowly and reach a new level of widespread acclaim two decades into their career. But Julian’s ethos, work ethic, and artistry has always had a timeless quality to it. And so, he’s built things slowly in a DIY fashion, withstanding highs and lows along the way, ultimately reaching the peak of his powers with his latest solo work. Fans and critics have noticed, granting Julian the Solo Artist of the Year honour at the Canadian Folk Music Awards (and nomination in the English Songwriter category), plus two Juno Award nominations in 2021, as well as a Polaris Music Prize nomination.

“Julian’s warm strong vocal is decorated by stirring poetic lyrics, a honey-drenched melody that’s simply delivered with expertise.” – Americana Highways

O’Higgins and Luft Quartet
£12.00 / £5 NUS
Doors 7:30pm
Dave O’Higgins and Rob Luft present their second co-led recording, three years after O’Higgins & Luft Play Monk & Trane. Where the first album clearly did what it says on the tin, Pluto, as the title suggests, comes from another place. Seven of the nine songs are original compositions by each band leader, and the remaining two pieces are Monk and Coltrane hits that evolved naturally on the road during a 50 date European tour in 2019.

The sonority has changed a little, too, as the Hammond organ of the first album is replaced with acoustic piano and double bass. This is straight-ahead modern jazz in the African-American tradition, clearly coming from the Monk and Trane lineage, but not bound to emulating it. You will hear Luft easily morphing Wes Montgomery with Bill Frisell, his own trademark soundscapes and worldly influences, while O’Higgins’ emotive melodies evoke Dexter, Trane, Joe Henderson and Brecker, with a melodic logic of his own

Line-up: Dave O’Higgin (tenor sax); Rob Luft - (guitar); Misha Mullov-Abbado (bass); Billy Pod (drums)

Doors 7:30pm
First set 8.30pm

Dizzy Lizzy are a fantastic live tribute act, dedicated to the legendary Phil Lynott and Thin Lizzy. Established in 1994, their sound and set-list faithfully recreate that trademark Lizzy sound. Philomena Lynott once stated that Dizzy Lizzy are “the closest to playing my son’s music'”. The band do indeed have an amazing sound and resemblance to the classic 70s and 80s rock band, taking you back in time to relive that magical musical era with a superb blend of classic foot stomping rock anthems and emotive ballads.

One of the country's most dynamic tribute acts, they are the only act to have headlined both the ‘Vibe for Philo’ in Dublin & ‘Remember Phil & Gary’ event in Holland. They have also performed and toured with original Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell whose reaction on first seeing the band was telling. “I could only watch three numbers owing to the emotions. The resemblance to Phil and the mannerisms and playing, it was spooky – it made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck…”

Animating the audience with live music and a laser performance of Kraftwerks' electronic dance tunes, this stunning tribute band is dedicated to the German pioneers of synthesizer music who influenced the British scene of the 70’s and 80’s which along with German techno was coming full circle to dance music in the 90’s.

What Kraftwerk have said and produced over three decades of music-making has inspired many of the key players in today’s popular music. This tribute act is a Van-w concept of stage media art and includes popular Kraftwerk tracks such as The Model, Pocket Calculator, The Robots, Autobahn, Tour de France and Trans Europe Express, all demonstrating that songs about very simple subjects can leave an immensely powerful and striking impression.

£10.00adv £12.00door
Doors 8:00pm
The Beggs Sisters are Willow Beggs (ukulele, guitar and voice), Lula Beggs (ukulele, guitar and voice) and Nick Beggs (double bass).

Willow and Lula were encouraged from an early age to follow their own musical paths by their musician father Nick, who initially found fame in the 80s with the band Kajagoogoo. His later work with Steve Hackett and Steven Wilson enabled him to escape the 80s pop moniker picking up various awards and accolades along the way. Still part of the Steven Wilson Band and various other touring artists like Howard Jones, Beggs embraces a wide variety of genres refusing to be pigeonholed.

Although Willow and Lula are both studying for their degrees in art and psychology, they are eager to play live and perform the myriad songs they have written over the years. With a wide gamut of influences they draw inspiration from life experiences, touching on diverse subjects such as depression, ecology and relationships.

In September 2022 the trio were guests of Marillion at the Brighton Dome where their close harmonies and beautiful songs wowed a new audience. "Folk music seems to be at the heart of what we’re doing, but we had discussed how we might find a way to play our songs together and tell stories about our lives. This format seems to be the most natural way right now.”

Originating in the Pagan folk world, Spriggan Mist have been catapulted onto the British Prog scene after a critically acclaimed performance at HRH Prog XI at the O2 in Sheffield. It was there that 'The Spriggs’, as they are affectionately known, were labelled as progressive folk rock, and doors were kicked wide open to mainstream festivals such as Weyfest and Cambridge Rock Festival.

However, you label them Spriggan Mist’s version of progressive folk rock is diverse and somewhat eclectic, blending overdriven guitars with instruments such as Saxophone, Recorders, whistles and even a crumhorn creating a perfect backdrop for charismatic lead vocalist Fay Brotherhood to tell stories in that wonderfully unique singing voice about Murderous Steampunk Mechanical Dragons, The Fae and a whole number of other mythical creatures.

Spriggan Mist will be playing many songs from their latest album 'Isambard the Mechanical Dragon' as well as from the other five studio recorded albums.
