A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to darrennockles at gmail.com.

Award winning blues-rock artist Laurence Jones comes to Leicester with his debut solo acoustic ‘On My Own’ tour, returning to his roots: pure blues!

The award-winning and critically acclaimed blues artist from Liverpool has opened for the likes of Ringo Starr, Sir Van Morrison, Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter, Walter Trout and recently Status Quo.

After Joining Buddy Guy on stage to jam and experience the blues first hand, Buddy remarked "He’s like a young Eric Clapton" and that pretty much says it all.

Raised on the classical guitar and achieved Grade 8 Distinction at the age of 18, he now combines his musical heritage with the energy of the blues-rock that made him famous. Laurence Jones has built up a loyal fan base throughout The UK and Europe, signing his first record deal at just 17, gaining him many awards and accolades with his critically acclaimed blues album ‘Thunder In The Sky’ in 2012. Fast forward over a decade on the road and 1200+ shows under his belt. Laurence’s debut solo album ‘On My Own’ feels intimate and personal, yet simultaneously bursting with the power and tradition of the blues. Laurence Jones proves once again why he's considered one of the absolute top performers in the genre.

Despite his health challenges, Jones continues to add to a career that already includes multiple British Blues Awards, over 50,000 albums sold worldwide, #1 album in the Official UK Jazz & Blues chart. This time, however, the focus is less on charts and accolades and more on telling his story through stripped-down, heartfelt blues.

The Sandy Denny Project
£13.00adv £16.00door
Doors 1:30pm - 5:00pm
The Sandy Denny Project pay homage and cast a new shine and brilliance on the life and works of one of Britain’s best loved folk singers. Sandy Denny’s remarkable writing is approached not as a tribute band, slavishly copying the records, but as a tribute in its best sense – an interpretation of Sandy’s wonderful work. Her best-known composition “Who Knows Where the Time Goes?” has been recorded by many and her recorded work the subject of numerous reissues, along with a wealth of previously unreleased material which has appeared over the 40+ years since her death at the tender age of 31.

BBC Radio Northampton, as part of National Music Day 2017, chose ex-Fotheringay MkII members Sally Barker (The Poozies, BBC TV's 'The Voice') and guitarist PJ Wright (TradArrr, The Dylan Project) to celebrate the award of Sandy Denny's Blue Plaque at Byfield Village Hall, the scene of her last ever concert in 1978. The following year Sally and PJ constructed a dream folk-rock band (with frequent Fairport Convention guest Anna Ryder, multi-instrumentalist Marion Fleetwood, and the rhythm section of bassist Mat Davies and drummer Mark Stevens from folk-rock legends Little Johnny England) to commemorate the passing of Byfield resident Sandy for a sell-out concert at the Village Hall. 'Sandyfest' and 'The Sandy Denny Project' were born.

With every year Sandy’s reputation continues to grow in stature as a songwriter and interpreter of traditional material, and the six musicians in the Sandy Denny Project, who share an impressive folk-rock pedigree, are each at the very top of their musical game.
