A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Dan Whitehouse
Sorry this gig is cancelled
Five albums in and award-winning singer-songwriter Dan Whitehouse continues to renew, reinvent and reimagine - touching listeners with his observations and moving them with his sensitivity and impeccable songwriting.

2022 sees Dan continue to develop and evolve his offering whilst showing how he carefully nurtured his creativity during an imposed stay in Japan from January 2020 to June 2021. This year’s releases include The Glass Age - a collaboration with Swedish producer Gustaf Ljunggren, which looks at how our human experience and ways of connecting have changed through the ‘glass’ of virtual communication. Another, his Arts Council funded song-cycle Voices From The Cones, draws stories of community and social and industrial history from the oral archive of workers from the Stourbridge Glassworks, comes out this autumn. Alongside this, Dan’s blossoming collaboration with New York hammered dulcimer player Max ZT will bear fruit in 2023 with their album Ten Steps.

2022 is the International Year of Glass, and at this show Dan will preview songs from his new album and forthcoming release springing from opposite ends of the ‘glass’ spectrum.

“Nothing short of beautiful – **** ” RnR Magazine

“Wonderful production and writing” Tom Robinson BBC 6 Music?

“Perhaps Mr Whitehouse's greatest gift is his knack for writing seemingly simple songs that most listeners will be able to relate to.” MAVERICK

The Hooten Hallers

Doors 7:30pm
Recent, well pre co vid, support to The Dead South.

Missouri trio The Hooten Hallers are a high-energy blues-rock band known for hard-traveling and wild live shows, with a seemingly endless tour schedule.

The myriad of influences in their music incorporates elements of rhythm & blues, rock’n’roll, honky tonk, jazz, soul, and punk with a thematic penchant for the strange and the unexplained.

Their live shows take the listener on a seamless ride from unapologetically raucous blues on the lap steel and bass sax, to a sweet three part harmony country ballad, to a romping dance number.

2017’s self-titled album ‘The Hooten Hallers’ on Big Muddy Records, is the culmination of their experiences from a decade of performing and traveling together.
They’ve injected the album with the stories and characters they’ve encountered over many years and miles.

Produced by Johnny Walker (Soledad Brothers, All Seeing Eyes) and Kristo Baricevic (Big Muddy Records), the Hooten Hallers’ latest effort showcases their evolution as musicians and songwriters. It garnered attention by

Vice’s Noisey – “This album rules”;

Rock’N’Reel (UK) – “This is a band that really understands and exudes the history of rock and roll”;

Impose Magazine – “another stunner of a music collection”;

New Releases Now – “one of the most dynamic live shows around”;

AXS – “This album is sheer madness in the best way”;

Ground Sounds – “gritty, groovy, and bluesy”; amongst others.

Dec 21, 2018 welcomed the release of a new album, ‘Live in Missouri’, recorded at The Blue Note in Columbia, MO earlier in the year. This new recording closely captures the intense energy of The Hooten Hallers in concert, with a combination of improvisation, extended versions of songs, and many fan favorites.

Listeners often detect hints of George Thorogood, Morphine, and Tom Waits, but anyone who has seen The Hooten Hallers live knows that this power trio is unlike anything they’ve experienced before.

John Randall’s demonically-tinged vocals and manic guitar, and Andy Rehm’s screaming falsetto vocals and steady, pounding drum beat keep the band focused on their unique blend of deep blues and country punk. Kellie Everett brings the power with the deep rumble of her baritone and bass saxophones.

When The Hooten Hallers come to town, you know it’s gonna be a party!

A glorious mixture of sweetness and strangeness” – The Guardian

“A delicate, expressive voice” – The Times

“Uplifting, reflective and tranquil” – NME

Singer, songwriter, novelist, and painter Kathryn Williams is proud to announce her new album ‘Night Drives’.

The collection explores a more filmic sound, with a larger ensemble of instrumentation, particular emphasis on the strings and production from Ed Harcourt. It’s out on July 15th via One Little Independent Records.

Her first official album since ‘Hypoxia’ in 2015, ‘Night Drives’ opens with some of Kathryn’s most immediately electronic tracks to date.

Kathryn Williams is often described as “a songwriter’s songwriter”, her timeless and searching work has earned her accolades, critical acclaim, and a loyal fan-base.

While her best-known work is characterised by rich and honest songwriting inspired by the greats, Williams has continually been able to evolve as an artist because she’s always looked outside of such boundaries.

HECTOR GANET (Solo)
Based in North Shields on Tyneside, Hector Gannet (aka Aaron Duff) began to draw attention after writing music to accompany vintage footage of his native North East and its heritage as part of a live music project for the BFI. These small arts venue shows sold out and as the band developed their own sound it led to a UK tour with fellow Newcastle musician and double Brit Award winner Sam Fender in 2019/20.
Debut album Big Harcar (named after a small island off the coast of England) was released in Oct 2020. With songs inspired by nature and industry, as well as empowering the under-represented, Big Harcar received support from major UK radio stations including BBC Radio 6 Music, plus critical acclaim, with Hector being described as "an endearing new voice that swells as powerfully as the choppy seas that so pertinently shaped it” by Gold Flake Paint.
After tours in 2021 and supporting indie legends Sea Power in England and Scotland, and Mercury Music Prize nominees Lanterns on The Lake, Hector and his band completed a short tour of the UK in spring 2022, before heading over to the USA to record his forthcoming new album, which is set for a 2023 release.
Hector's new single ‘Blue Murder’ is set for release on 8th August 2022, a driving indie-rock track with sweeping melodies and an infectious chorus. The track is a reimagining of a 1970s single written by Lindisfarne frontman Alan Hull.

Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse is the musical creation of Greta Valenti and Robin Davey. The pair met when their respective bands crossed paths on YouTube, having already established themselves as performers and musicians. When LouderSounds preaches “Let Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse twist yer melons and remind you of the wonder of life” it might be because the bands vibe is easier to pin down than their unique take on the roots genres. Rockshot Magazine elaborates “This extremely entertaining collective is a New Orleans-inspired, American blues-folk-soul band, who refuse to be pigeon-holed”.

To fully understand Beaux Gris Gris & The Apocalypse is to experience the band live, a mix of soulful songs, intense energy, and world-class award-winning musicianship. RhythmBooze summed up the shows finale as “A mind-boggling, blistering finish with everything thrown in including the kitchen sink...truly memorable”.

Beaux Gris Gris and The Apocalypse debut album Love & Murder spurned Top 10 hits in genre charts across Europe. The albums wide-reaching appeal earned it a #13 placement in the “Top 50 Albums of the year” by Classic Rock Magazine, describing it as “A sensual, vibrant cocktail“

Guitarist Robin Davey was the youngest ever inductee into the British Blues Hall of Fame. He spent time as an artist on Atlantic and Interscope Records, and has recorded with a wide spectrum of artists from Mick Jagger to Katy Perry. Multi-award-winning vocalist and songwriter Greta Valenti is Louisiana-born-and-bred creative with generations of her family dating back before the Louisiana purchase. Her rock outfit Well Hung Heart (OCMA’s Best Live Band) toured the USA opening for the likes of Fitz & The Tantrums, Twenty One Pilots, Foreigner, and Offspring.

“Top 50 Albums of the year” by Classic Rock Magazine, describing it as “A sensual, vibrant blues cocktail that feels worlds away from the blandness and dustiness that the blues (new blues especially) is sometimes accused of”.

Brave Rival - UK Blues Challenge Finalists 2022.
Brave Rival are the South East’s brand-new rip-roaring rock and blues Machine. Hailing from Portsmouth, the UK Blues Award Nominated band features the powerful and beautiful twin vocals of Chloe Josephine and Lindsey Bonnick. On lead guitar, providing dramatic guitar solos and crunching rock riffs is Ed “The Shred” Clarke. And holding it all together is the rhythmic backbone, the self-proclaimed engine room of Billy Dedman (bass) and Donna Peters (drums).

Drawing influence from the likes of John Mayer, Aretha Franklin, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and Tedeschi Trucks, Brave Rival offer a style and sound that you’ve always known, and yet never heard before.

Since their inception in the summer of 2019, Brave Rival have gone from strength to strength, featuring in Raw Ramp Magazine as one of the 'Top 20 Bands To Watch In 2020' and nominated for 'Breakthrough Act 2019' by Get Ready To Rock Radio.

At the turn of the decade, hot off the heels from supporting blues rock giants such as Stevie Nimmo and The Billy Walton Band, Brave Rival captured their raw energy live by recording their headline set to a gracious sold-out audience at Hook’s famous Echo Hotel Music Club. This fabulous set of early material was quickly released to critical acclaim as their first Live Album ‘Brave Rival Live at the Echo Hotel Music Club’.Keeping the momentum going, a Kickstarter was launched for their first studio album with the target being smashed by their loyal fanbase with time to spare. It was time to repay that loyalty with a studio album. Little did they know however, that the world was about to change forever.

With the pandemic putting the brakes on recording plans, Brave Rival spent much of the UK Lockdowns writing new material via the power of Zoom calls and Google drive. The abundance of material produced served them well for the eventual recording of their debut album in the summer of 2021. Recorded at The Mayfair Studio in the picturesque Surrey countryside with producer slash seducer Tarrant Shepherd at their side, Brave Rival’s highly anticipated debut album “Life’s Machine” will arrive on May 6th 2022 with the first single, “Guilty Love” releasing on the 11th Feb.

The future is looking incredibly bright for this young up and coming band. A successful set on the introducing stage at the 2022 Great British Rhythm and Blues Festival in Skegness saw them win the competition, securing a deserved place on the main stage in 2023. The relentless gigging and hard work in 2021 has also paid off for the band with a UK Blues Award Nomination for Best Emerging Blues Band.

Brave Rival are a band on a meteoric rise, firing on all cylinders and are about to take the world by storm. Brave Rival’s unique combination of beautifully harmonic, soulful vocals, epic guitar solos, pounding drums and powerful bass serves up an infectious sound that is not to be missed.

In recent years Pat has been named as one of the top five top Irish guitarists of all time.

In the very early eighties, Pat formed Mama's Boys with his brothers John and Tommy and within a few years were touring worldwide and playing along with some of the giants of rock. They are perhaps best known for their hits 'Needle in the Groove' and their cover of Slade’s ‘Mama Weer All Crazy Now'. After the passing of younger brother Tommy, Pat and John formed 'Celtus' and were quickly signed by Sony and their music went on to win many awards.

In 2001 Pat decided to take a rest from recording and touring and returned to Ireland, but quickly became involved with other projects and bands. Around 2006 Pat decided to take a more serious approach and form his own rock/blues band and up to today, 7 original albums and 3 DVDs have followed. One way or another Sarah Borges connects with casual mastery. Whether it’s with the comrades she’s collaborated with over nearly 20 spanking years of music making, or the vivid portraits of people’s lives - and occasionally her own - she’s sketched in scores of emotionally resonant songs. But most of all, Borges has built a loyal following by con-necting, through her own charismatic, down-to-earth spirit, with her audience - whether they’re longtime fans from back when she broke through with her terrific “Silver City” debut in 2004, or newcomers just joining the party now.

Veteran singer/guitarist/songwriter/producer/raconteur Eric Ambel (Joan Jett/The Del-Lords) is the possessor of an estimable musical resume that’s established his credentials as a deeply committed rocker as well as a witty and thoughtful songwriter. Between his current duties as producer, bandleader, studio proprietor, bar owner, member of uber-bar-band supergroup the Yayhoos and lead guitarist of Steve Earle’s band the Dukes, he’s found time to launch his own label, Lakeside Lounge Records, to redress the longstanding absence of Ambel solo product from the marketplace.

Sarah and Eric will be joined on stage tonight by bassist Keith Voegele (Bottle Rockets) and drummer John Powney (Warner E Hodges Band).
