A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to rideout at stayfree.co.uk once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Albany Down
£10.00adv £12.00door
Contemporary UK blues-rock band, Albany Down, came together with some classic rock and Brit blues-rock influences, but with their 2011 debut album, ‘South of the City, they found their own sound. Albany Down is founder member Paul Turley on vocals and guitars, drummer and backing vocals Pete Hancock and bassist and backing vocals Ben Atkins. The band has recorded 3 Studio albums with producer Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, INME, Super Furry Animals). "These guys are really going somewhere; make sure they take you with them!" - Paul Jones, BBC Radio 2 Blues Rock Review offered a fair assessment of both the band and their debut album: “South of the City” is a solid debut album from Albany Down and they will be an interesting band to watch develop in the coming years”. In 2013 the band stepped up to the plate with 12 original well-crafted songs on their formidable album “Not Over Yet”. Traditionally a band’s second album is regarded as being problematical but Albany Down have turned that notion on its head, taking all that was good on “South of the City”, honing their song writing craft and revelling in Greg Haver’s powerful production. In 2016 the band released their much-anticipated 3rdAlbum “The Outer Reach” which built upon the previous albums with strong melodic rock songs and powerful emotional ballads. The band’s big Zeppelin-influenced sound draws from the same British blues-rock well, that gave Zeppelin a head start all those years ago and later was rediscovered by Joe Bonamassa. But it’s the resonant substance of the band’s own songs and their exuberant style that gives the music its edge. Albany Down are a band that runs on pure adrenalin, unrelenting energy and raw emotion. Rock blogger Neil Mach probably got it right, when he described the band; "As hot as volcanic ash and yet as cool as snow slippers."

Pure Purple
£10.00adv £12.00door
Deep Purple are one of the greatest hard rock bands in history. They have been popular worldwide and have influenced many other hard rock and heavy metal bands.

Pure Purple specialise in the era when Ian Gillan, and Roger Glover joined Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord and Ian Paice to form the classic MK 2 line up.

Pure Purple perform their songs with the same infectious energy and passion as Deep Purple did in the 1970’s and go to great lengths to sound as authentic as possible too with Marshal Amps, Hammond Organ, Fender Guitars and Leslie Speakers.

Some of the songs you can expect to hear are MKII classics such as Highway Star, Child In Time, Woman From Tokyo, Smoke on the Water, Black Night, Strange Kind of Woman, Lazy, Speed King, Fireball and from a few years later Perfect Strangers.

Through the years, Deep Purple have been known for their outstanding in-concert performances, no matter which line-up recorded them. Purple's live performances have been legendary, and over the years they have released more live recordings than almost any other band.

Albums from the MK 2 era include ‘In Rock’, ‘Fireball’, ‘Machine Head’, ‘Made in Japan’ and later included ‘Perfect Strangers’ and ‘Hell or High Water’.

Warner E. Hodges Band
£13.50adv £16.00door
Doors 8:00pm
From his early days guitar slinging in Jason & the Scorchers to more than a decade with Dan Baird & Homemade Sin and a parallel solo career that has produced four ace albums so far with a new one due in April, Warner E. Hodges is a man who knows how to rock and his live shows are famous for their excitement, intensity and power. He was a wild child who fused rock ’n’ roll aggression with country roots and getting on for forty years later he still is and he’s doing it as well as ever. As he says himself, Americana on a stool it ain’t, but some of the best rock ’n’ roll you’ll see it surely is. With Ben Marsden (guitar), Jason Knight (bass) and John Powney (drums), Warner has a band capable of running Black Sabbath into Merle Haggard and back out into AC/DC.
