A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to musicianlive2 at gmail.com once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

The Small Fakers
£11.00adv
Doors 8:00pm
The Small Faces are without any shadow of doubt, one of the most sensational British bands of the 1960s, and are as much a part of the soundtrack to the fabbest decade ever as The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, The Who, or anyone else for that matter!

Hitting the charts as teenage mods with their very first disc, 'Whatcha Gonna Do About It', the four diminutive Cockneys went on to release numerous timeless classics including, ‘Sha-La-La-La-Lee’, ‘Here Come The Nice’, ‘Itchycoo Park’ and ‘Lazy Sunday’.

The Small Fakers were officially launched on a chilly night in February 2007 at a central London shindig attended by fans and associates of the East End's very own fab four, the seminal, sensational Small Faces. The buzz in the audience that night was intense. Could the SMALL FAKERS even hope to come close to replicating the sound, and the look, of the Small Faces.

Spear of Destiny

Doors 8:00pm
Set to mark forty years since their formation this year, Spear of Destiny have been making a stir with their
punk-influenced power-rock since 1983. Emerging from the wreckage of iconic post-punk band Theatre Of
Hate, the original duo — Kirk Brandon and Stan Stammers — named themselves after the weapon used by Roman centurion Longinus as he pierced the body of Jesus as he hung on the cross.

Now in 2023, the current Spear of Destiny lineup is the longest serving to date, featuring Adrian Portas (New
Model Army/Sex Gang Children), Craig Adams (Sisters of Mercy/The Cult/The Mission) and Phil Martini
(Jim Jones and the Righteous Mind), as well as Clive Osborne on saxophone and Steve Allen-Jones on keys.

Heralding an array of positive reviews for both their live shows and studio material, MOJO enthused “Kirk
Brandon is one of the UK’s best kept secrets”, while Jeremy Vine says Spear’s ringleader is “one of our
greatest musical geniuses”. With BBC Radio’s Jools Holland dubbing their 2014 album ‘31’ as “possibly
[Spear’s] best album in 20 years,” their recent efforts see the band at their professional peak, with Louder
Than War awarding the record 9/10 and commending: “Brandon puts his all into every song with epic
bombast, coming across as a tragic rock n roll anti-hero.”

Still continuing to look toward the future, Brandon has penned fourteen new tracks for the latest Spear of
Destiny album Ghost Population. Both fan forums and music journalists alike have heralded the release of
Ghost Population May 2023 will see the full commercial release of the album into the shops on Brandon's own Eastersnow recording Company via Code 7 Distribution.

Doors 8:00pm
Nathan Bell is a mesmerizing live performer who borrows from traditional musical forms and the literary traditions of writers like Jack London, John Berryman, and Studs Terkel to produce moving pictures of the American experience.

“It’s all powerful stuff and Bell is spellbinding on stage, a true sage for these troubled times.” - Paul Kerr- Americana UK/Blabber n’ Smoke.

He will be touring in support of his new album, "Red, White and American Blues (it couldn't happen here)." In 13 original songs, featuring guest appearances by Patty Griffin, Regina McCrary, and Aubrie Sellers, the album takes the listener on a journey, from the Dead Thumb Blues of South Texas, through Swamp Music, American Roots Rock, and West Coast Spoken Jazz Poetry to the Folk stages of London.

"Sometimes a solo artist can knock your socks off and Nathan Bell is one of these. With a voice and songs sitting alongside the likes of Townes, Guy Clark, John Prine etc.. Really!! - this guy's songs and voice hit you with a clarity not often encountered. Sharp edged songs, a voice of gravel and grit and whiskey and some rather accomplished guitar playing makes this guy pretty special." - A Box of Birds, New Zealand.

plus Kris Gruen
Doors 7:00pm
A native New York City singer-songwriter born out of a hardcore punk and rock n' roll background, Jesse Malin has played and toured since the age of 12. He is a streetwise story-teller whose characters and slice of life lyrics portray a world of unsung heroes, helpless romantics and rock n' roll survivors. Comparisons are often made to artists such as Neil Young, Lou Reed, Paul Westerberg, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Strummer, Lenny Bruce and Martin Scorsese.

'Sad and Beautiful World' (2021), the first double album of Malin’s career hits like a collection of heartfelt and eloquent short stories that never lose their dirt and swagger. The phoenix bird could be the spiritual mascot of the album. Forged in the wild flames of the lost pandemic year, the album follows Sunset Kids (2019), Malin’s acclaimed album produced by Lucinda Williams and Tom Overby.

Described by Uncut magazine as a “fearless storyteller,” followers have always appreciated the many sides of Malin, from his pioneer days in the hardcore band Heart Attack to D Generation and his solo career. Sad and Beautiful World, which takes its title from a line of dialogue in Jim Jarmusch's 1986 cult-classic film Down By Law, divides itself down the middle.

Chris Helme
£11.00adv
Doors 8:00pm
“With the Seahorses over his shoulder, Helme continues to create glorious music in his own name.”

Chris Helme first rose to prominence as the front man of John Squire’s post-Stone Roses band ‘The Seahorses’ which saw him touring extensively and sharing the stage with The Rolling Stones, U2 and Oasis in numerous support slots. Now solo- he is still rightfully remembered for Britpop classics ‘Love Is The Law’ and ‘Blinded By The Sun’ – songs that evoked everything the 90’s stood for, the excitement, the culture and the bands that provided a voice in a period of political and social imbalance.
Chris’ enviable back catalogue, is bolstered further by his acclaimed works with The Yards, but it’s his last solo album ‘The Rookery’ that portrays him at his very best. The album combines melody with imaginative, intricate, three-way guitar interplay that brings each track to a lush, blossoming climax. Add to this Chris’ keen ear for arranging, plus some brooding string passages and it becomes the perfect platform for his wonderful songs. Melodies rooted in traditional folk are reimagined on an album of rich variation, testament to his most powerful weapon – his voice.

Nick Harper

Doors 8:00pm
Nick Harper is one the UK’s best kept musical secrets. Those who have witnessed the spellbinding, one-man show will tell you this. A childhood growing up surrounded by the musical prowess of some of the 60’s most revered songwriters & musicians, not to mention being son of Roy Harper, along with decades of crafting songs and touring has spawned a truly one-off, original guitarist and songwriter who stands alone as a UK great, to be cherished & revered.

To call Nick a superlative singer/songwriter could put his highly lauded guitar talent in the shade, and to call him a guitarist's guitarist might slight his distinctive, soulful voice and passionate songs. Not forgetting the wild ride that is one of his live shows - from personal introspection to biting political satire via a charmingly caustic wit that would make Groucho Marx proud. He often segues from his own compositions to well-loved covers he makes his own - he takes on Prince, Presley, Zappa, Jeff Buckley, Led Zeppelin, Monty Python and Public Enemy (yes, on an acoustic guitar). He also has the alarming ability to break guitar strings almost by sheer force of will… and then change them without dropping a beat.

NARC Magazine.

‘Hold Fast is one of the best records of the year’
Marc Riley, BBC 6 Music

‘Powerful -and deeply relatable.’
Pitchfork

Stick In The Wheel’s work is rooted in traditional music and song, informed by the modern electronic music that grew out of their hybrid East London heritage. Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter use centuries-old work-songs that speak to present-day issues of class -an inherently political act -as well as historical material from Saxon poetry to Medieval carols.

Their third studio album, Hold Fast, is a deeply layered journey of hope and resistance, with a sonic palette that is wider yet more nuanced than ever, with synths, spoken word and psychedelic guitar fuzz. SITW continue to push forward the contemporary tradition of roots music, whilst maintaining and celebrating music from our collective histories – conjuring the past to point toward the future.

Originally a four-piece featuring brothers Ben (vocals) and Liam Sargent (guitar), Jason Green (bass) and Luke Morley (drums), Leicester's own Hell’s Addiction formed as a four piece in 2010, with their first album, the triumphant Raise Your Glass arriving in 2013.

They have always grafted hard to fine tune their craft and toured extensively leading up to 2015 at which point they started work on their most recent album – ‘Broken’. Released in July 2016 it received critical acclaim across the board. Describing Hell's Addiction as the "Bastard child of an illicit three-way between Skid Row, early Guns N' Roses and AC/DC", pretty much sums up their balls-out approach to Rock ‘n’ Roll.

In 2016, the line-up was augmented by Dan Weir (guitar) and timed perfectly for their appearance opening the 2016 Download Boardie Takeover stage. Dan has helped push their writing and sound even further, growing from strength to strength, as they work on a series of EPs beginning with 2019’s V1.0 release.
