A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management.

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are travelling any distance.

A guide for Artists and Promoters

The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to rideout at stayfree.co.uk once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Small Fakers
£11.00adv
The Small Faces are without any shadow of doubt, one of the most sensational British bands of the 1960s, and are as much a part of the soundtrack to the fabbest decade ever as The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, The Who, or anyone else for that matter!
Hitting the charts as teenage mods with their very first disc, 'Whatcha Gonna Do About It', the four diminutive Cockneys went on to release numerous timeless classics including, ‘Sha-La-La-La-Lee’, ‘Here Come The Nice’, ‘Itchycoo Park’ and ‘Lazy Sunday’.

The Small Fakers were officially launched on a chilly night in February 2007 at a central London shindig attended by fans and associates of the East End's very own fab four, the seminal, sensational Small Faces.
The buzz in the audience that night was intense. Could the SMALL FAKERS even hope to come close to replicating the sound, and the look, of the Small Faces

Chris Helme

Chris Helme
“With the Seahorses over his shoulder, Helme continues to create glorious music in his own name.”
Chris Helme first rose to prominence as the front man of John Squire’s post-Stone Roses band ‘The Seahorses’ which saw him touring extensively and sharing the stage with The Rolling Stones, U2 and Oasis in numerous support slots. Now solo- he is still rightfully remembered for Britpop classics ‘Love Is The Law’ and ‘Blinded By The Sun’ – songs that evoked everything the 90’s stood for, the excitement, the culture and the bands that provided a voice in a period of political and social imbalance.
Chris’ enviable back catalogue, is bolstered further by his acclaimed works with The Yards, but it’s his last solo album ‘The Rookery’ that portrays him at his very best. The album combines melody with imaginative, intricate, three-way guitar interplay that brings each track to a lush, blossoming climax. Add to this Chris’ keen ear for arranging, plus some brooding string passages and it becomes the perfect platform for his wonderful songs. Melodies rooted in traditional folk are reimagined on an album of rich variation, testament to his most powerful weapon – his voice.

Nick Harper
By arrangement with RMT Music Present
£12.00adv £14.00door
NICK HARPER is one the UK’s best kept musical secrets. Those who have witnessed the spellbinding, one-man show will tell you this. A childhood growing up surrounded by the musical prowess of some of the 60’s most revered songwriters & musicians, not to mention being son of Roy Harper, along with 20 years of crafting songs & touring the land has spawned a truly one-off, original guitarist & songwriter who stands alone as a UK great, to be cherished & revered.

For over two decades, he has been dazzling audiences, reviewers & fellow artists alike with his heady
mix of virtuosity, boyish charm, showmanship & sheer bravado. An imagination bursting with ideas has
seen Nick release 11 solo albums to critical acclaim, earning a Number 1 spot in the charts with the seminal hit ‘Blue Sky Thinking'.
More recently, in 2017, Nick recorded his full band album Lies! Lies! Lies! with legendary producer
Tchad Blake at Studio La Fabrique, South France (studio of choice for Nick Cave, Morrissey & Radiohead). The album received strong support from BBC 6 Music coupled with Nick & band being greeted by rapturous, capacity crowds on the tour that followed.
Early 2018 saw Nick return to the live circuit with a newly formed solo set featuring quadraphonic sound & reimaginations of songs pre-chosen, by request, by Nick’s fan base. The ‘100 Things’ tour proved to
be a hugely successful return to the stage with all but a handful of shows selling out.
2018 also saw Nick Harper perform his first spoken word piece, A Wiltshire Tale, at some of UK’s most prestigious venues. It is a journey through Wiltshire’s (where Nick later grew up) history, landscape &
wildlife. Depicted through the voices of three characters, this one-man show bears witness to this most
magical of counties in spoken word, poetry & live music.
2019 Nick embraced his legacy and extensively toured the UK with the award-winning show, 58
Fordwych Road. It centred around a living room in a small flat in Kilburn, London in the mid 1960s. Then the abode of up-and-coming singer-songwriter Roy Harper & his wife Mocy. The flat was an after hours hang-out for the legends who played at Les Cousins in Soho at the height of the acoustic explosion in swingin’ sixties London. People like Bert Jansch, Davy Graham, John Renbourn, Paul Simon, Marc Bolan, Sandy Denny & others dropped in, to drop out, jam & try new tunes. But, all along, there was
someone else there… a toddler, part of the family, inhaling the music & absorbing the vibe; Roy’s young
son, Nick Harper. This heart-warming show that saw Nick play renditions of the great’s masterpieces
and was a rare opportunity for fans to hear Nick perform his father’s material – needless to say it was fiercely endorsed by his fans.
Nick has recently set off into deep Harperspace to retrieve his new album which will be available in Autumn 2020 to accompany one of his most extensive UK tours to date. Keep an eye for updates as one of the UK’s most loved creative pioneers begins to unveil his latest work…

John Otway
Rock veteran Otway dubbed himself "rock'n'roll's greatest failure" after many unsuccessful attempts to produce a second hit single to follow his 1977 classic (Cor Baby, That's) Really Free with Wild Willy Barrett.

However, a mere quarter century later, he was back on Top of The Pops with the wonderful disco pastiche, ‘Bunsen Burner’ and back in the charts as a birthday present from his adoring and patient fans.

And, more recently, his "Beware Of The Flowers Cause I'm Sure They're Going To Get You Yeah" voted the seventh greatest lyric of all time in a BBC poll.

John Otway and his hard hitting band attack his favourite set list with gusto, leaving plenty of room for anarchy, fun and acrobatics that are his trademark.

‘He's a cabaret act masquerading as a rock act. He is gleeful, anecdotal, funny and life-enhancing.’

Blues rock guitar virtuoso, singer-songwriter and producer, Josh Smith, is hailed the world over as a master guitarist with raw talent and power to spare. Blending his signature mix of blues, rock and jazz into dynamic original songs, Smith is known for his incendiary live performances, whether at the Grammy Awards or the Kennedy Center Honors with Mick Jagger, Raphael Saadiq and others. Josh has been named the 16th best living blues guitar player in the world by Guitar World Magazine.
Opening for B.B. King was just the beginning for this in-demand artist and lead guitarist for artists such as Taylor Hicks, Ricky Fante (Virgin Records), Raphael Saadiq, actress Taryn Manning, Universal Music Group hip-hop artists Benny Cassette and Tara Ellis, and more. He has the distinction of inducting Neil Diamond into the Kennedy Center Honors with Raphael Saadiq’s band and honoring Solomon Burke at the Grammys with Mick Jagger.
Along with touring the world, recording and performing with renowned artists such as Joe Bonamassa, Eric Johnson, Andy Timmons, Kirk Fletcher and others, Smith is also a producer and owns Flat V Studios in Los Angeles. He has produced artists Reese Wynans (Joe Bonamassa), Artur Menezes (winner of the Eric Clapton 2019 Crossroads Festival) Seth Rosenbloom, Jamey Arent and many more.
“Josh is one of my favorite musicians on the planet. His musical depth and guitar playing transcend the boundaries of the blues genre into a genre of his own. I am proud to always share a stage with him and even prouder to call him my friend.
--Joe Bonamassa

Josh’s latest and 11th album, Live At The Spud, was released January 8, 2020 on Flat V Music, and features Smith and his power trio recorded live over two nights at the legendary Baked Potato in Los Angeles. The new album features Smith on guitar and vocals, Gary Novak on drums and Trevor Carlton on bass. The goal was to present an unedited look at a normal night at the Baked Potato. Compelling, improvisational and explosive. Josh is currently touring worldwide in support of the live album.
