These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management
The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice.
We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.
Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are traveling any distance.
A guide for Artists and Promoters
The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to rideout at stayfree.co.uk once your gig is confirmed.
We also need you to do the following -
Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.
Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.
Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.
Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

This gig is the official launch for Gren's new album, 'Songs To Scythe Back The Overgrown'. An acclaimed acoustic guitarist, both solo and in partnership with fiddler Tom Kitching (Pilgrim's Way), he's equally at home with traditional and original songs, folk, blues or Americana. John Kirkpatrick describes him as "lovely to listen to" while R2 magazine praised his "impressive songwriting" and reckoned he "had few, if any, equals as a player." Expect jaw-dropping playing, great songs and perhaps a few special guests.
Supporting is Julia Disney, a new young singer-songwriter and past winner of the Shrewsbury Folk Festival's prestigious open mic competition.

The gathering of neo-prog band Arena's famous musicians makes a super-group: founded in 1995 by Mick Pointer (ex-Marillion) and Clive Nolan (Pendragon) playing the drums and keyboards respectively, this star-studded line-up is completed by guitarist John Mitchell (It Bites), vocalist Paul Manzi and bassist John Jowitt (IQ).

The Watch are a 5-piece band from Milan. Their music is inspired by the classic style prog of the 70’s and in particular, by the music of Gabriel-era Genesis. The band have 4 albums under their belt featuring their own material. The band, so incredibly authentic in what they are recreating, are endorsed by none other than Steve Hackett.
Tonight The Watch will perform two sets, the first featuring the Gabriel classic ‘Nursery Cryme’ in it’s entirety. Then they'll be providing a glimpse as towhat Genesis could have sounded like had Peter Gabriel not left the band - The second set will feature highlights from 1976's 'A Trick Of The Tail' and 'Wind And Wuthering', sung with amazing Gabriel-style vocals and played with an early 70's set-up.

Rising star Amy Wyke has been performing her own material up and down the country for last couple of years. She has built up an impressive and enviable reputation as an exciting live act, performing her own original songs both as an acoustic solo artist and with her stellar band. She has played at prestigious venues such as The Factory Manchester, The 100 Club London and last year went on her first national tour with Radio 1’s Folk Face. Amy’s sound is original, lyrically emotive and her songs are packed with melody and catchy hook lines, all tied together with her totally unique voice.

When NME claimed that "Peter Bruntnell's records should be taught in schools", they were referring to the particular appeal of the quiet Devonian's songwriting craft. First coming to public attention with 2005's 'Normal For Bridgewater', Bruntnell was initially categorized in the 'alt-country' bracket, but his restless musical spirit has meant each successive album striking out in new directions. 2009's 'Peter And The Murder Of Crows', filled with psychedelic drones and mellifluous tunes, was Americana Album Of The Month in MOJO Magazine and one of Q magazine's Americana Albums Of The Year.

Bap Kennedy has an impressive history, from his early career with Energy Orchard to his work with Van Morrison and Steve Earle, a fine country songwriter with a laid back style and melodies that sound simple but become difficult to shake off. The Ulster singer-songwriter readdresses his troubled love affair with the USA on his latest solo album, which with its easy country-soul ambience and purring pedal-steel sounds like it was recorded in Nashville rather than Belfast.

From the great Pacific Northwest - Portland, Oregon to be exact - come Richmond Fontaine. Dark, bleak portrayals of characters and the lives they lead, the lyrics often reflect a deeply sad and hidden side of a person's thoughts. Backing up the lyrics, and adding an even darker tone to the setting, the music's cross of country moods and rock 'n roll blood is all Richmond Fontaine need to have you feeling empathy for the characters they paint. Gather around a drink while you listen to them because you'll need the comfort. Easily slipping from one sad story to the next, Richmond Fontaine have no problems telling the sad tales of life with heart and style.

Jim Moray is one of the most consistently inventive musicians working in traditional folk music today. His debut album Sweet England won him the BBC Radio 2 Folk Album of the Year and his third, 'Low Culture', picked up the fRoots Critics Poll and Mojo Folk Album of the Year awards. He was also voted 'Best Newcomer’ at the 2004 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. He will be touring in support of his new, as yet untitled, album and also playing songs from his work on the acclaimed collaborations on The Cecil Sharp Projact and Anais Mitchell's folk opera Hadestown.
Support comes from Kate Denny, previously the singer of The Kittiwakes, whose album Lofoten Calling won raves across the folk scene.

This EQ Festival celebrating the March Equinox will be in aid of Amnesty International and as always features a selection of different acts. Sleeping Through Rapture are a folk/metal band featuring Anya Pugh (daughter of Roger), there will be improvised jazz from Jazz Cats, the inimitable George Sanderson and the night will be rounded off as always by Multimorph, featuring special guest Helena McCleod as well as the giant fish!

Reared among the Pentecostal pines of Oregon, Rachel Harrington has been doing things in the wrong order for quite some time. She'd had extensive radio play before performing her live show, and she was opening for Grammy winners and nominees before releasing her first record.
