These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management
The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice.
We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.
Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are traveling any distance.
A guide for Artists and Promoters
The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to rideout at stayfree.co.uk once your gig is confirmed.
We also need you to do the following -
Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.
Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.
Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.
Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

Shawn Jones is the epitome of American Roots/Rock music. He has proven over time that he has an international appeal. Shawn is true to form of his influences, spanning from all the greats in Rock, Rhythm 'N' Blues, Jazz and Country. His father raised him on Hank Williams, and he grew up in the heartland of Southern California, where he learned from experience how to play and sing the blues. The Jeffrey Lewis & Peter Stampfel Band hits the UK in May 2013, with a new album in tow! Songwriter and visual artist Jeffrey Lewis is renowned for his six albums of twisted garage-indie-folk on Rough Trade, while Grammy winner Peter Stampfel now celebrates 50(!) years of making totally off-the-wall folk music, most famously with the Holy Modal Rounders and the Fugs (in addition to being featured on the Easy Rider soundtrack, and more notable albums and collaborations than you’d care to count).
Although forty years apart in age, these two New Yorkers share an obsession with both comic books and songs, as well as a collaborative history that has spawned some of the most unexpected and delightful music of recent years! A tour from this pair (and their full 5-piece band, including Franic of the Wave Pictures on mandolin) is an event not to be missed. "…it’s a gig of equals. Most bands play covers and move on to writing songs, The Dissenters mainly play songs from Dawson’s highly acclaimed solo albums so tonight is a rare chance to hear Dawson and the band celebrate their collective influences. After picking up his brother's guitar and writing his first song, he felt his future lay in Rock music, being influenced by some of the guitar greats - Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher, Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore. "For me, my moment of inspiration was seeing Rory Gallagher live, I had never experienced anything like it. So loud, so gloriously on the edge of total mayhem, yet Rory was still totally in control. How could I not do this too! Like Rory I'd work under my own name, with a band. I'd do all the writing, singing, producing, playing and leading."
Very quickly, Larry found his own Blues/Rock style, and has been constantly refining it. He is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, with a love for his music which is simply infectious.

The Book of Genesis faithfully recreate the musical brilliance of England's finest prog rock band covering the Gabriel years and some of the best songs from the Collins period too. The band cover a wide repertoire from the first album onwards but focused on the progressive rock era up until Steve Hackett left the band.

In recent months, renowned Folk singer Bob Fox has won critical acclaim for his performance as 'Songman' in the National Theatre's popular stage production of Michael Morpurgo's War Horse. Now, after over a year in the role, Bob is returning to his musical roots by touring Britain's Folk clubs with a brand new one-man show.
Twice nominated as Folk Singer of the Year by the BBC’s Radio 2 Folk Awards, Bob has long been a favourite on the live circuit. This new show will feature a selection of powerful and moving songs and music from War Horse as well as traditional material from Bob's native North-East and beyond.
The tour will offer Bob's large and loyal following the first chance in over 18 months to enjoy his warm, rich voice; virtuoso finger-style guitar and witty banter. As a bonus, these concerts will see Bob's club debut as a melodeon player. |

Formed in Stoke-on-Trent in the dim and distant past of 1993, Elvis Fontenot and the Sugar Bees have evolved to become the premier European swamp ’n’ roll outfit that they are today.
In 2006 and 2009, the Sugar Bees were crowned “European Zydeco band of the Year” and band member Nick won European Rub-board player of the year. They have been played on the BBC by Andy Kershaw and Mike Harding and have been on TV in Austin, Texas and featured on radio stations across America and also in Australia.

For nearly 35 years, Steve Howe has been at the forefront of guitarists in popular music. Actually, simply referring to Howe as a just a guitarist is limiting. In addition to being a songwriter, he plays more instruments than just the guitar. If it has strings and a fretboard, Howe has mastered it and recorded with it at some point on one of countless albums he's been a part of as a group member, solo artist and special guest.

Inspired by hearing Big Bill Broozy and Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Wizz learnt his guitar licks from the likes of Davy Graham and Long John Baldry whilst playing in the coffee bars of London's Soho in the late 1950s.
He then followed the time-honoured buskers' trail from the streets of Paris to the markets of Marrakech during the early 1960s and returned to Britain with a unique acoustic guitar style, an eclectic repetoire and a 'right hand worthy of Broonzy'!
John Renbourn, Eric Clapton and Keith Richards have all named him as an important early influence and after more than 50 years 'on the road', Wizz continues to tour on the acoustic folk and blues circuit, usually solo but sometimes with his son Simeon on sax, flute and harmonica.

Some bands belong to their own time, others trespass on decades where they don't really belong. Diesel Park West must have seemed to some people back in '89, with the release of the far-reaching Shakespeare Alabama, the most welcome and liberating guitar band anyone had heard for years. A lot of artists who have enjoyed massive acclaim and success since, may well tip hats towards the Diesels for being pioneers in the re-emergence of the guitar as the primary sound of contemporary music. Add to that song writing that both provokes and reassures... sometimes within the same lyric... then maybe its appropriate to start spreading the word.

Son of the legendary UK singer-songwriter Roy Harper, Nick was born in London and raised in Wiltshire. Having played the guitar from the age of 10 and surrounded by the likes of Keith Moon, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Dave Gilmour as he grew up, it was no surprise when Nick made his recording debut on his father's 'Whatever Happened to Jugula?' in 1985.
Nick's talent and energy entranced Roy's fans and it was inevitable that he would begin touring and recording in his own right. The 1994 EP 'Light At The End Of The Kennel' was swiftly followed by his powerful 1995 debut long player 'Seed' prompting The Independent to describe him as "hugely talented".
To call Nick a superlative singer/songwriter could put his highly lauded guitar talent in the shade, and to call him a guitarist's guitarist might slight his distinctive, soulful voice and passionate songs. Not forgetting the wild ride that is one of his live shows - from personal introspection to biting political satire via a charmingly caustic wit that would make Groucho Marx proud.
