These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management
The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice.
We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.
Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are traveling any distance.
A guide for Artists and Promoters
The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to rideout at stayfree.co.uk once your gig is confirmed.
We also need you to do the following -
Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.
Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.
Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.
Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

Guns 2 Roses are a 5-piece line-up who are totally focused on not only cloning the sound of Guns 'N' Roses better than the rest, but are also mirror images of the classic G'N'R line-up even down to the ever changing outfits and stage performances. Playing many songs from Appetite For Destruction, G'N'R Lies, Use Your Illusion I and II, The Spaghetti Incident? and Chinese Democracy, Guns 2 Roses sometimes even throw in the songs that G'N'R did live that never made it on record to keep in with the G'N'R spirit and deliver a different show every time. In 2005 original G'N'R drummer Steven Adler performed with them on their UK tour. They are the only G'N'R tribute band to be approved by an original member of Guns 'N' Roses.

Bonafide was formed by singer/guitarist (and drummer for Jason & The Scorchers) Pontus Snibb and bassist Michael Nilsson in Malmö, southern Sweden, in 2006. Having served their apprenticeship supporting the likes of Deep Purple, Status Quo, Y & T, The L.A. Guns and the Quireboys, they bring their blues and R‘n’B based full throttle rock n’ roll to the UK for the very first time. You will seldom hear guitars this beefy or vocals with this much pure attitude and bravado – it’s no holds barred stuff. This is a show not to be missed!

Whatever category you try and put them in, their unique brand of Bourbon Soaked Gypsy Blues Bop 'N' Stroll is not to be missed!

Here it is, the missing fifth side of Exile on Main Street. Putting Dan Baird and Warner E. Hodges in the same band is like packing hydrogen and plutonium into the same bomb: it’s not an intriguing combination, it’s a got-damn weapon of mass destruction. In Homemade Sin, you get three-quarters of the original Georgia Satellites line-up - Baird, bassist Keith Christopher and drummer Mauro Magellan - augmented by Scorchers gunslinger Hodges. The guitars tangle like rival strands of kudzu underneath Baird’s paint-stripping howl. This is how rock sounded in the days of red meat, no-filter Marlboros and plaster casting; the hip-shake-boogie beat of 'Hellzapoppin' alone would cause McFly’s testicles to drop!

A world-class musician Simon ‘Honeyboy’ Hickling is a blues harmonica ace with a hard earned and well-deserved international reputation. His subtle and fabulously expressive playing is grounded firmly in the ‘50s and ‘60s heyday of the Chicago and Gulf Coast styles of playing. With a tremendously experienced band backing him, Simon never fails to deliver anything less than a first-rate evenings entertainment and never lets good taste and soulfulness stifle a rockin’ night out.

Folk-pop singer/songwriter Boo Hewerdine first surfaced in 1983 in the Cambridge based group the Great Divide; two years later, he founded cult favorites the Bible, releasing a pair of acclaimed albums (Walking The Ghost Back Home and Eureka) and scoring a minor hit single with "Honey Be Good" before disbanding the group in 1988. From there Hewerdine teamed with Texas performer Darden Smith for 1989's well-regarded Evidence, followed in 1992 by his true solo debut, Ignorance. After briefly reforming the Bible, he returned in 1996 with Baptist Hospital; Thanksgiving followed three years later.

Chris Conway is difficult to sum up in a few paragraphs as he is active in so many genres of music – singer-songwriter, new age, jazz, Celtic, world music, and electronic. This genre hopping makes him a moving target as an artist and keeps him below many people's radar, but there is a growing crowd of those in the know who enjoy the relentless creative flow of Chris's music. Some are aware only of his music in one genre, others follow everything.
He has worked with a very diverse set of top musicians having played with members of Jethro Tull and Fairport Convention and toured with Peter Tork (Monkees). He's also played with composer Gavin Bryars, tabla man Talvin Singh, violin virtuoso Dr L Subramanium, and UK folk singer Martin Carthy. Brazilian jazz diva Ithamara Koorax and UK folk singer Vikki Clayton have both recorded his songs.

2011 marks Fred Zeppelin's eighteenth year together and the four members of the band are true Zeppelin fans, forming 'The Freds' out of their admiration and love of Led Zeppelin's music. As their name suggests, they do not take themselves too seriously. They know the praise belongs to Robert, Jimmy, John Paul and Bonzo, but they aim to do justice to the music and they certainly achieve that.

The KiteRunners are a young indie band from Leicester, and have started to make a name for themselves on the pub circuit and having appeared at a few minor festivals. They are influenced by bands such as the Arctic Monkeys, The Wombats and Vampire Weekend. Please note that this is a daytime show!

Rock Solid Academy (RSA) is Leicester’s brand new and best music academy for young people! The RSA pride themselves on offering first class workshops and instrumental lessons from highly trained and experienced industry professionals for the ages of 11–18. This afternoon's show represents the Academy's end of year showcase performance and all ages are welcome.

Now in their 4th decade, Nine Below Zero are the viable alternative to Alternative, a band that most definitely come to play, a band with their own genuine sound and deep understanding of their musical roots. Live, the combination of Dennis Greaves playing guitar and singing, Gerry McAvoy on bass, Brendan O’Neill on drums (both ex-Rory Gallagher band members) and Mark Feltham on harmonica is lethal, hammering and nailing the big R'n'B sound to the floor of many a famous stage. "NBZ are brilliant live, they work so hard, the audience often go home as exhausted as the band!" so says Andrew Zweck of top promoters Harvey Goldsmith Ents.

It's almost Christmas and once again we bring you the perfect gift of 3 of Leicester's finest and excitingly original bands plus the tender sounds of Courtney Askey. The perfect antidote to crowded shopping malls, Echolocation will be simmering with misanthropic xmas spirit in their own inimitable avant progressive pop punk style. They will be joined by electro-punk rockers Gestalt and Jesuscarfish. We will be welcoming Courtney Askey who will be making her debut performance. Expect some powerfully infectious electro-punk with a twist of the unexpected and no (well not too much) Christmas humbug. Dancing is optional but may be hard to resist at times.

The Ann Duggan Band will be returning to the Musician to host a fantastic Christmas musical extravaganza.
They are known and loved for their mix of roadhouse country and blues based original material, and have been highly critically acclaimed.
Ann has one of the most distinctive voices and is a very vibrant and engaging performer with bags of soul, backed by a powerful rhythm section and stunning guitarist Rob Hines. The band will be inviting some special guests to join them in the celebrations so come and raise a glass or two and get Christmas off to a great start! |

Some bands belong to their own time, others trespass on decades where they don't really belong. Diesel Park West must have seemed to some people back in '89, with the release of the far-reaching Shakespeare Alabama, the most welcome and liberating guitar band anyone had heard for years. A lot of artists who have enjoyed massive acclaim and success since, may well tip hats towards the Diesels for being pioneers in the re-emergence of the guitar as the primary sound of contemporary music. Add to that song writing that both provokes and reassures... sometimes within the same lyric... then maybe it's appropriate to start spreading the word.

El Pussycat are no longer young boys blasting out 100 mph ska. “You're just too fast, too loud, too loud!!" said the godfather of ska Laurel Aitken. These days they keep their sound, which goes back to the 50’s roots of bluebeat and ska, relaxed and rock steady. Leicester’s other top ranking ska band Kingsize play foot-stompin’, house rocking Kingsized arrangements of the finest original Jamaican ska sounds. Their style draws heavily on the classic Studio One song catalogue and traditional big band sounds of ‘60s ska.
