A word about our listings

A guide for Customers

These days artists and bands tend to book their tours months in advance. In order to give you the best notice of up and coming shows we list events once they have been confirmed by the band or their management

The downside of this is that dates can change due to unforeseen circumstances, sometimes at very short notice. We do our best to ensure that this site is kept as up to date as is possible, with updates happening at least once a week.

Therefore to avoid disappointment we recommend that you check these listing prior to setting out for your show especially if you are traveling any distance.

Not listed?
A guide for Artists and Promoters
The quickest way to get yourself included in our listings is to send an email to rideout at stayfree.co.uk once your gig is confirmed.

We also need you to do the following -

Put the name of the artist or band name along with the date of your show in the email subject line.

Attach a reasonable sized photograph. A 72dpi, jpeg, bigger than 200x200 pixels would be fine. Please don't email files over 1mb in size. If in doubt please drop us a line before sending. Let us have your web address so we can link to your site or Myspace page.

Send us some text. Whilst we are happy to tidy up spelling or grammar, we don't have the time to write or edit copy for you. Ideally we need a nice concise 'blurb' of between 75-100 words. Please don't send a three page biography, or else we are likely to bounce it back to you. If you have a selection of press quotes send what you have as we can usually easily compile something from them. There are plenty of examples of the sort of thing we need here on the site to help you out.

Please note - If you have played at The Musician before and we have text on file, we will continue to use use it for any subsequent listings unless you supply new copy.

If you spot any errors please send an email to derek at indiecentral.co.uk.

Miles Hunt & Erica Nockalls (The Wonder Stuff)

plus Andy Griffiths

www.fortytenthpromotions.co.uk

Long before "Britpop", British indie music had a golden era that saw the likes of Pop Will Eat Itself, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, EMF, Jesus Jones and of course, perhaps the biggest band of the era - The Wonder Stuff. With a sound that mixed post-punk guitars, psychedelia, pop-rock and folk they were the perfect alternative band in a time of Stock Aitken and Waterman. Armed with killer, catchy tunes and sneering lyrics The Stuffies were to go from indie darlings to headlining the Reading festival and enjoying hit success with "Welcome To The Cheap Seats", "Size Of A Cow" and their number one collaboration with Vic Reeves, "Dizzy".

Eddie & The Hot Rods + The Members

£15adv £18door

www.eddieandthehotrods.com

www.themembers.co.uk

www.fortytenthpromotions.co.uk

English rock band Eddie & The Hot Rods have enjoyed a career that has now spanned 37 years. Although often categorised as one of the founding fathers of the punk era, they were simply interested in playing loud, fast, in your face Rock ‘n’ Roll rather than bad mouthing the Queen or fermenting anarchy. The energy and attitude certainly endeared them to the punks, but the hard and fast style that made Eddie & The Hot Rods one of the most exciting bands of the era has never really dated or gone out of style.

The Members, formed in the summer of 1977, were among the first to successfully blend reggae rhythms with punk's attitude and aggression. The Sound of the Suburbs, was produced by Steve Lillywhite - later to attain legendary status with U2 and was a British Top Ten Hit selling 250,000 copies in 3 months (it has since sold over a million copies). Their first LP, Live at the Chelsea Nightclub, was listed as one of the top 20 punk albums by Record Collector Magazine.

Martin Stephenson

£10

plus Kevin Hewick

daintees.co.uk

www.kevinhewick.co.uk

Martin Stephenson has been one of the UK’s best-loved musicians for 30 years.

Always popular on the circuit, Stephenson’s “must see” live performances are an exuberant tour-de-force combining heart-in-your-mouth intimacy with playful humour and warm self-deprecation.

The Daintees’ critically acclaimed 1986 debut 'Boat To Bolivia' opened up an always interesting story. It showcased Stephenson’s songwriting, poetic romanticism and spiritual depth – so marking him out as a soulful cream of the leftfield crop during the self-obsessed 1980s.

Never pandering to a particular scene, Stephenson’s lightness of touch on a varied mix of musical styles was immediately apparent. His path was destined to be a lifelong journey through the music he loved: folk, ragtime, jazz, rockabilly, show tunes, punk-pop and country.

The Chickenhead Lounge (Special Cathouse Edition)

Free

feat. The Drugstore Cowboys and The Outwoods County Riders

chickenheadlounge.wordpress.com

Tonight's Chickenhead Lounge hosts a special ‘Cathouse’ edition featuring two of Leicester’s favourite countryfied acts. Topping the bill, the amazing Drugstore Cowboys. High Octane Roadhouse Rockabilly the easiest way to describe the wall of sound from these guys. The Drugstores have been performing to their audiences since their formation in 1998 and during this time have performed in excess of 400 shows up and down their home country of England, as well as in Europe and the USA. The band draw from many musical styles, from traditional 50s rock n roll, country, tex mex and blues influences, through to 60s, garage, and surf. A live Drugstore show is the real deal, a high energy performance, and always unpredictable.

Opening the show are your hosts The Outwoods County Riders. Featuring a whole heap of new countryfied songs from the upcoming new album. This is music that stayed behind on the farm, blues that never went to Chicago, country that never went to Nashville. The OCR will let rip with original material that includes murder ballads and hill country blues.

Tonight's event is raising money for local animal charities Cats Protection and The RSPCA.

Newcastle based four-piece Bridie Jackson and The Arbour are an eclectic group of folk-influenced musicians. Hauntingly ethereal, yet fused with dark and powerful undertones; this eccentric ensemble inject contradictions galore, with their union of bright melody and sombre lyricism.

Sitting somewhere between the lushness of Norah Jones and quirkiness of Joanna Newsom, Bridie Jackson and The Arbour create songs that intertwine melancholy with joyful rich harmonies, often skipping down a path of dream-like rapture, before discovering the journey is beset with sorrow.

One day a large tattoo'd northern man called Nidge surveyed his domain. Something was missing. Something loud. Bawdy. Fun. Something that would warm even the coldest blood.

"This world needs Noddy to get back on stage with Slade" thought our hero. At this moment, Andy, an equally large guitarist reminded our hero he was supposed to be singing AC/DC songs as it was the middle of a gig.

Soon after, Andy pointed out that not only did he share the same initials as said vocal legend he actually sang like the bloke.

Slyde Alive was born.

A Body Snatching Carnival!

“The Weirdos have to be the complete go-to festival band of the moment” - Andy O’Hare, BBC Introducing

After a couple of years feeling out their sound across the UK live circuit, Johnny Kowalski and the Sexy Weirdos took on the task of recording their brass, strings, electric guitar and drums based “carnival punk” sound.

They released the independently recorded Victory for the Monsters in October 2012, gaining BBC6 Music radio airplay and capturing their notorious live energy on a record that they followed up with a tour that took in France, Belgium, Germany and the Czech Republic.

With summer festival performances that included Boomtown, Y Not, Tramlines, Nozstock, Wychwood and Swingamajig and a third European tour under their belts, work is now close to completion on the follow up to Victory for the Monsters, Kill the Beast, produced by Gavin Monaghan (Editors, The Destroyers, Robert Plant).

Roberts isn’t strictly a traditional singer, though he has released albums composed entirely of traditional songs.
